Carlos Beltran Joining Mets Front Office

Carlos Beltran, who spent 20 years in the major leagues and at one point served as the New York Mets manager, will be leaving the YES network. Beltran received a job offer from the Mets as special assistant to general manager Billy Eppler. The 45-year-old spent some time with YES and broadcasted live games in 2022. Just three years back, Beltran was slated to become the Mets manager but was fired after he was linked to the Astros' sign-stealing scandal. According to the New York Post, manager Buck Showalter was considering Beltran to become the Mets assistant hitting coach, but he ultimately landed a job under Eppler. Additionally, Beltran placed sixth in Hall of Fame voting in his first year on the ballot with a 46.5% mark.

Mets Hire Carlos Beltran As Manager

The New York Mets hired former All-Star outfielder Carlos Beltran as their new manager on Friday. He'll receive a three-year deal with an option for a fourth season. The nine-time All-Star played for New York from 2005 to 2011, but this will be his first gig as a manager in the big leagues. Beltran spent the 2018 season as an adviser to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. The Mets finished 86-76 in 2019 and fired Mickey Callaway after his second season at the helm. New York will once again have lofty expectations under Beltran in his first season with a rotation headed by Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard.

Carlos Beltran Serving As DH In Game 1

Houston Astros designated hitter Carlos Beltran is the DH and is hitting seventh in Game 1 of the Championship Series on Friday against Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka. Evan Gattis will start on the bench. Beltran is a perfect 2-for-2 with a double and RBI in his career against Tanaka, but the veteran left-handed slugger is a poor daily pick tonight. Beltran hit just .231 on the season with 14 home runs and 51 RBI.

Carlos Beltran Sits On Wednesday

Houston Astros designated hitter Carlos Beltran is not in the Houston lineup against Wednesday for the Astros' game against Los Angeles. The rest does not appear to be injury-related and Evan Gattis gets the start at DH for Houston. Gattis will hit fifth against the Angels and lefty Tyler Skaggs and Beltran should be in the lineup tomorrow. Beltran only has a .507 OPS over the last 30 days and should not be on a fantasy roster.

Carlos Beltran Banged Up

Houston Astros designated hitter Carlos Beltran is dealing with upper back and neck soreness, but could play in the upcoming series next week against the Seattle Mariners. The veteran outfielder is definitely showing signs of his age (40) in 2017, hitting a disappointing .234/.287/.396 with 14 home runs and 49 RBI in 414 at-bats. The Astros just hope he can be a useful bat off the bench in the postseason given his experience, but he'll offer very minimal fantasy output for the rest of the season.
