Ryne Nelson Becoming a Starter to Target Off the Waiver Wire

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Ryne Nelson (2-3) allowed one run on six hits and three walks while striking out three across eight innings against the Rockies in his previous start. He owns a 2.36 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, and a 6.6 K:9 across 34 1/3 innings in his last five outings. Overall, he owns a 4.65 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts through 60 frames this season. Nelson will likely see regression, as his BB% is up from 6.6% to 7.5% this season, while his SIERA is currently sitting at 4.54. The Diamondbacks right-hander has pitched well enough to become a starter to target off the waiver wire. Nelson will look to continue his recent success in his next scheduled start against the Mariners at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. Fantasy managers might want to see how Nelson fares against the Mariners before adding him everywhere. However, managers needing a pitching boost can add Nelson, as he's rostered in 60% of Yahoo leagues.

Corbin Burnes Faces Live Hitters on Friday

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Corbin Burnes (elbow) faced live hitters for the first time this year on Friday. Burnes was able to throw a 20-pitch session without any issues. D-Backs manager Torey Lovullo said that Burnes will have another live session on Tuesday. If everything continues to go well, Burnes could potentially go on a minor league rehab assignment after Tuesday's session. The right-hander continues to work his way back from elbow surgery. There's a chance that Burnes is back on the big league mound before the end of June. With that being said, Burnes is looking like an interesting stash candidate with his return to the mound looming.

Ryan Waldschmidt Emerging as a High-End Speed Option on the Waiver Wire

Since being called up for his MLB debut in early May, Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt has made an immediate impact at the big-league level. Across 70 plate appearances, the 23-year-old is hitting .302/.362/.413 with zero home runs, seven RBI, 10 runs scored, and five stolen bases. There are a few worrying signs in Waldschmidt's profile that point to potential regression. He's struck out in 30% of his plate appearances, and his batting average has been buoyed by an unsustainably high .452 batting average on balls in play. Still, Waldschmidt stole 29 bases in the minor leagues in Triple-A and has been aggressive on the basepaths early in his MLB career. He also consistently ran double-digit walk rates in the minors, which should help him get on base consistently and stay in the lineup even if his batting average tails off. Particularly for fantasy managers in need of speed, Waldschmidt is a viable waiver wire target.

Paul Sewald Remains Top Option For Saves on the Waiver Wire

Arizona Diamondbacks right-handed closer Paul Sewald has converted on 14 of his 15 save opportunities this season and owns a 3.80 ERA and 0.75 WHIP with 24 strikeouts and 21 1/3 innings pitched. The 14 saves on the season are tied for third in MLB behind Cade Smith and Mason Miller, and the 15 opportunities are tied for fifth. While Sewald's velocity isn't elite (91.4 mph average fastball velocity), he has still demonstrated solid control and high strikeout upside. In fact, hitters are hitting .146 of his four-seamer, and he has a solid 21.4 percent whiff rate on his fastball, even though the velocity isn't there. During a season where the closer situation has been difficult to navigate because of injuries and some of the top arms underperforming, Sewald continues to be one of the top options for saves, and is a must-add if available on the waiver wire.

Geraldo Perdomo  • SS  •  Diamondbacks

Can Geraldo Perdomo Rediscover His 2025 Breakout Success?

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo was one of the biggest breakout success stories of the 2025 season, as he hit 20 home runs and stole 27 bases while hitting .290 across 720 plate appearances. The 26-year-old has been considerably less productive so far in 2026, slashing .223/.336/.335 with two home runs, 20 RBI, 23 runs scored, and eight stolen bases across 220 trips to the plate. Perdomo posted a 6.2% barrel rate even in a breakout year in 2025, which always made him a likely regression candidate. Even still, there's reason to believe that Perdomo's production the rest of the way in 2026 will improve. With a 14.5% walk rate and a 13.2% strikeout rate, his plate skills remain elite. Perdomo has also hit just .248 on balls in play so far this season, significantly below his career mark of .287. Fantasy managers should not expect a full return to peak form, but Perdomo profiles as a steady compiler in every category other than home runs. At the right price, he could be a worthy buy-low candidate.

Nolan Arenado  • 3B  •  Diamondbacks

Nolan Arenado Out on Wednesday Due to Groin Injury

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Nolan Arenado (groin) is absent from the starting lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the division-rival San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park, according to MLB.com. Jose Fernandez will make the start at third base for the Snakes and will hit seventh against Giants right-hander Trevor McDonald. It's not a surprise that Arenado is sitting on Wednesday in a day game after he was pulled from Tuesday night's game early with tightness in his right groin. The D-backs have a day off on Thursday, so fantasy managers will want to check back to see if he's available to play in Friday's series opener in Seattle against the Mariners. If it's an injury that keeps the veteran out for an extended period of time, Fernandez would continue to see most of the playing time at third in Arizona. The eight-time All-Star and five-time Silver Slugger isn't the offensive player he once was in his prime with the Colorado Rockies, although he has hit a decent .271 (46-for-170) on the year with seven home runs, 27 RBI, 27 runs, and a stolen base across his first 51 games in his first year with the Diamondbacks.

Corbin Burnes Recovery Progressing, High-End Starter Worth Stashing

Diamondbacks right-hander Corbin Burnes continues to progress in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, and a return around the All-Star break is beginning to look realistic. The 31-year-old has not pitched since June 1, 2025, but remains one of the premier starting pitchers in baseball when healthy. Burnes was dominant before the injury in his first season with Arizona, posting a 2.66 ERA with 63 strikeouts across 64 innings in 11 starts. The three-time All-Star is expected to begin live throwing soon, which is another encouraging step in his recovery process. Fantasy managers searching for second-half upside should strongly consider stashing Burnes now before his roster percentage begins to climb closer to his return.

Paul Sewald Remains Top Saves Source on Waiver Wire

Diamondbacks closer Paul Sewald worked around a solo home run to earn his 13th save of the season on Tuesday while striking out one in Arizona's win. It was the sixth save in his last eight appearances, as Sewald continues to strengthen his grip on the closer role. The veteran right-hander owns a 3.98 ERA with a stellar 0.79 WHIP and 23 strikeouts across 20 innings this season. Sewald is now tied for second in the National League in saves in his first year back with Arizona. His ability to limit baserunners has helped minimize damage in late innings, and he remains a high-level fantasy target as save opportunities continue to pile up.

Nolan Arenado Pulled Early on Tuesday With Groin Tightness

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Nolan Arenado (groin) was pulled from Tuesday night's game early in San Francisco against the Giants with right-groin tightness, according to the team. Before leaving early, Arenado went 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and a walk. He was replaced at the hot corner by Jose Fernandez in the seventh inning. We should know more about the severity of Arenado's injury on Wednesday after he's evaluated by the training staff. If the veteran third baseman is forced to the injured list, Fernandez would be the primary beneficiary of more playing time at the hot corner in Arizona. At the very least, fantasy managers should not expect Arenado to be active for Wednesday's game at Oracle Park. The eight-time All-Star and five-time Silver Slugger winner has cooled off of late and came into Tuesday hitting .219 (7-for-32) with a homer and seven RBI in nine games since May 16. The 14-year veteran has seen his offensive game decline rapidly over the last couple of seasons.

A.J. Puk  • RP  •  Diamondbacks

A.J. Puk Could Return in June, Worth Stashing in Deeper Leagues?

Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said on Monday that left-handed reliever A.J. Puk (elbow) is likely to get seven or eight appearances on a minor-league rehab assignment as he works his way back from an internal-brace surgery on his left elbow last June, according to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic. It could push Puk's return from the 60-day injured list into the middle of June. Right now, veteran Paul Sewald is the D-backs' primary closer, but upon Puk's return, he could be thrust right into the ninth-inning mix, making him a potential stash candidate right now in deeper fantasy baseball leagues. The 31-year-old former sixth overall pick by the Athletics in 2016 out of the University of Florida had a 3.38 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, four saves, 12 strikeouts, and two walks in eight innings pitched last year before having season-ending elbow surgery, and he has an 11.2 career K/9 and 26 saves in six big-league seasons. Puk is widely available on the waiver wire right now and is currently rostered in just 2% of Yahoo leagues.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is Placed on 10-day Injured List

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day Injured List on Saturday. He was removed from Friday's game due to hamstring tightness and now heads to the shelf with a left hamstring strain. The exact timetable for his return is unknown, but hamstring issues do have a tendency to linger. Jorge Barrosa and Tim Tawa are the favorites to see increased playing time while Gurriel is sidelined. In a corresponding move, infielder Tommy Troy has been called up from Triple-A Reno. Troy could be someone worth keeping an eye on in deep leagues.

Tommy Troy  • LF  •  Diamondbacks

Tommy Troy is Heading to the Big Leagues

Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Tommy Troy is receiving the call to the big leagues. The 24-year-old has reportedly been called up after a strong showing in the minor leagues. Through 44 games, Troy was slashing .307/.397/.449 with three home runs and 28 RBI with Triple-A Reno this season. This is a well-deserved call-up after Troy put together strong numbers at Double-A and Triple-A last season as well. Troy is a player who can do a little bit of everything at the plate. He has 15-homer power with enough speed to steal around 20 bases and isn't afraid to draw a walk as well. He's certainly worth a look in deep leagues, assuming he's going to get regular playing time in Arizona.

Ryan Waldschmidt Logs Another Stolen Base, Quickly Becoming a Must-Add

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt went 2-for-3 with a stolen base in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies. Waldschmidt is hitting .500 (7-for-14) with two doubles, three walks, and three stolen bases over his last five games. He has yet to hit a home run, but overall, the 23-year-old is slashing .326/.396/.419 with six RBI and four stolen bases in 48 plate appearances. He has the potential to be a five-category contributor and slashed .302/.415/.491 with 12 home runs, 25 steals, 14% BB rate, and 20% strikeout rate in 100 games between Double-A and Triple-A last summer. Waldschmidt is only rostered in 15% of Yahoo Fantasy leagues and is quickly becoming a player to add in most formats as he continues to swing a hot bat.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. a Waiver-Wire Target Amid Hot Streak

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. has been hitting the ball well lately, and he's worth adding off the waiver wire in many fantasy baseball leagues. Over his last six games, Gurriel is 10-for-25 with one home run, two doubles, four RBI, one walk, five strikeouts, and one stolen base. This year, he owns a .230/.292/.310 slash line. While those marks aren't ideal, they're several points better than they were last week. He also has an 8.3% walk rate and a 18.8% strikeout rate. With just one homer and one steal this year, we haven't seen a whole ton of power or speed from Gurriel. However, he's started to deliver more extra-base hits, and he could be turning the corner as a fantasy-relevant outfielder. He's available in 97% of leagues, representing a solid mid-season waiver wire addition for managers in deeper leagues.

Jordan Lawlar  • SS  •  Diamondbacks

Jordan Lawlar Still Holding Stash Upside Amid Looming Return?

Arizona Diamondbacks infield/outfield prospect Jordan Lawlar (wrist) has been on the 60-day injured list for the majority of the regular season but has recently begun to make strides in his return. Earlier this week, the former top prospect took dry swings for the first time. Additionally, the team's manager, Torey Lovullo, noted that his wrist fracture continues to heal quite well. While Lawlar is still several weeks away from returning to game action, it appears he is progressing well through the early stages of his recovery. Before the injury, Lawlar appeared to have emerged as a primary option in the outfield, appearing in six games and posting a .333 AVG with one double and one home run. During spring training, he flashed high-end upside, holding a .333/.448/.604 line over a 17-game stint. Given that his potential return date may not be for another month, managers should only consider stashing him in deeper 15+ team leagues for the time being.

Corbin Burnes Nearing Return to Game Action?

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Corbin Burnes (elbow) said he has two more bullpen sessions before he can potentially face live hitters next Friday, per Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic. Piecoro also reports that Burns thinks it could be a "couple of weeks or so before he starts getting into games," and that Burnes is still targeting a "mid-July-ish" return to the big leagues. Burnes is working his way back from Tommy John Surgery, which ended his 2025 campaign last June. The 31-year-old appears to be progressing toward a relatively speedy return, although he still has several tasks to complete. Before getting injured last season, Burnes recorded a 3-2 record with a 2.66 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 63 strikeouts across 64 1/3 innings (11 starts). While he may not immediately return to peak performance in 2026, he should provide roster-worthy production across all fantasy formats upon his return.

Nolan Arenado Continues Resurgent Campaign, Worthy of a Waiver-Wire Pickup?

Arizona Diamondbacks veteran third baseman Nolan Arenado is beginning to turn things around offensively in his first year in the desert. The 35-year-old eight-time All-Star and five-time Silver Slugger winner went 1-for-4 with a grand slam and a strikeout in Monday night's 12-2 rout of the division-rival San Francisco Giants and has hit .320/.417/.598 with seven home runs, 22 RBI, 21 runs scored, and a stolen base in his last 30 games. After a slow start to his D-backs tenure, Arenado has gotten hot and is now sporting a .272 batting average (40-for-147) with a .347 on-base percentage, .463 slugging percentage, and .810 OPS with seven long balls, 25 RBI, 25 runs, and a steal in 44 games played in his 14th year in the big leagues. It's nice to see from a player who had been on the decline offensively in recent years with the St. Louis Cardinals. Fantasy managers looking to ride the hot hand should consider adding Arenado off the waiver wire for a boost. He's available in just over 70% of Yahoo leagues.

Ryan Waldschmidt Showcasing Five-Category Upside Early in MLB Stint

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Ryan Waldschmidt has impressed through his first 10 games in the majors and looks ready to be a long-time fixture in Arizona's outfield moving forward. The 23-year-old is the team's No. 1 prospect according to MLB Pipeline and has lived up to the hype, hitting .313 (6-for-32) with four doubles, three stolen bases, three walks, and six RBI. He hasn't hit a homer yet in the majors, but had 18 in 134 games in the minors in 2025 and three in 34 games in Triple-A before his promotion. He has a 16.7% barrel rate and has caught barrels in back-to-back games after going 3-for-3 with two doubles in Monday's 12-2 rout of the Giants. Waldschmidt is a great fantasy baseball addition if you need outfield depth at this point in the season and offers well-balanced production with good speed and batting average production right away.

Corbin Burnes  • SP  •  Diamondbacks

Corbin Burnes a Prime Deep-League Injury Stash Candidate

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Corbin Burnes (elbow) has been on the injured list since June 2025 as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery. Burnes progressed to throwing bullpens in late April, but has yet to go out on a rehab assignment. According to the most recent reports, Arizona's plan for the 31-year-old is for him to return in mid-July after the All-Star break. Burnes was pitching well before getting injured last season, as he recorded a 3-2 record with a 2.66 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 63 strikeouts across 64 1/3 innings (11 starts). The veteran right-hander was also one of the best pitchers in baseball from 2021 through 2024, posting four consecutive campaigns with at least 180 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.10 or lower. While he may not immediately produce like his peak self post-surgery, Burnes still offers significant upside for fantasy managers. Particularly in deeper leagues, managers may want to consider stashing Burnes early before more news on his progression causes his waiver wire price to rise.

Corbin Carroll Extends Hitting Streak With Two-Homer Game

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll is heating up at the plate and extended his hitting streak to six games in Sunday's 8-6 win over the division-rival Colorado Rockies in the thin air in Denver at Coors Field, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI, three runs scored, one walk, and two strikeouts to raise his season average to .278 and his OPS to .933. It was the 25-year-old's ninth career mult-home run game, and he now has seven home runs in his 43 games played in 2026. During his six-game hitting streak, the former National League Rookie of the Year has gone 8-for-19 (.421) with two homers, three doubles, four RBI, eight runs scored, and two stolen bases. He's still only hitting .245 (13-for-53) in May with three homers, six RBI, 11 runs, and two stolen bases, but he's picking things up offensively. Fantasy managers have to be stoked with what they are seeing of late out of Carroll, and that he keeps it up moving forward.
