Corbin Burnes Hoping to Return Around All-Star Break

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Corbin Burnes (elbow) said that he hopes to rejoin the team's starting rotation around the All-Star break as he rehabs from Tommy John surgery, according to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. Burnes is also expecting to throw off a mound before the end of spring training as he continues to recover from TJ surgery that he had last June. The 31-year-old four-time All-Star and former National League Cy Young winner made the All-Star team from 2021 to 2024 but then made only 11 starts for Arizona in 2025 due to his right-elbow injury. When on the mound, though, he was his usual dominant self, posting a 2.66 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 63 strikeouts and 26 walks in 64 1/3 innings. Fantasy managers shouldn't just expect Burnes to return around the All-Star break and be his former dominant self right away.

No Setbacks for Corbin Burnes, Aiming for July Return

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Corbin Burnes (elbow) has not had any setbacks during his rehab from Tommy John surgery, and the Diamondbacks' ace is still aiming to return in July of this year. "We put an aggressive timeline on it from the get-go. We were looking at the 12 1/2, 13-month mark. We're still on pace with that," Burnes said. It's the same timeline that the 31-year-old veteran gave back in late September, but it's still good news that he's on track after having right-elbow reconstruction in June of 2025. The four-time All-Star signed a six-year, $210 million contract with Arizona in December of 2024 but ended up only making 11 starts in his first year in the desert, posting a 2.66 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 63:26 K:BB in 64 1/3 innings. Before the injury, Burnes was one of the most consistent high-end starters in baseball over the previous five seasons. Fantasy managers can stash Burnes in an IL spot in 2026 in hopes of him being an ace in the second half, but expectations should be tempered as well.

Corbin Burnes Targeting Return at Next Year's All-Star Break

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Corbin Burnes (elbow) said that his target for a return is the All-Star break next season, according to Cameron Cox. Burnes added that he will throw normal bullpen sessions in spring training and is confident that things will line up for him to return around midseason in 2026. The 30-year-old made only 11 starts with the D-backs in 2025 in his first year with the team before undergoing Tommy John surgery in June. Before his right-elbow injury, he was his normal dominant self, going 3-2 with a 2.66 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 63:26 K:BB in 64 1/3 innings over 11 starts. The four-time All-Star will be in play for around half a season's worth of starts for fantasy managers next year, so temper expectations, depending on how his rehab goes in the first half of the year. Burnes signed a big six-year, $210 million deal with Arizona last December to be their ace going forward.

Corbin Burnes Moved to 60-Day Injured List

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Corbin Burnes (elbow) has been transferred to the 60-day injured list on Saturday. This is a procedural move to open up a spot on the 40-man roster with Burnes being done for the season. Burnes is set to undergo Tommy John surgery which will likely sidelined him until the second half of the 2026 season. A tough blow considering Burnes signed a six-year, $210 million deal with the D-Backs this past offseason. The D-Backs will use the extra spot on the 40-man roster for catcher Aramis Garcia. If they haven't already, fantasy managers can safely drop Burnes with him being done for the rest of the season.

Corbin Burnes to Undergo Tommy John Surgery

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Corbin Burnes (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery next week, according to manager Torey Lovullo. We knew things didn't look good when Burnes went for a second opinion on his injured right elbow after he landed on the injured list earlier this week with inflammation in his arm. The 30-year-old veteran will now miss the rest of the 2025 season and most likely at least half of 2026 as well. It's a big blow for fantasy managers and the D-backs, as he was serving as the club's ace and will finish his first year in the desert with a 3-2 record, 2.66 ERA (3.89 FIP) and 1.17 WHIP with 63 strikeouts and 26 walks in 64 1/3 innings pitched over 11 starts. Fantasy managers can now safely drop the four-time All-Star and former Cy Young in redraft leagues. Right-hander Ryne Nelson has entered the rotation and could stick around for the foreseeable future.

Corbin Burnes Officially Placed on Injured List

The Arizona Diamondbacks officially placed right-hander Corbin Burnes (elbow) on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with right-elbow inflammation and recalled left-hander Tommy Henry from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move, according to Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro. With Burnes potentially missing significant time, potentially for the rest of the season, right-hander Ryne Nelson will jump into the starting rotation and will have an opportunity to stick around for a while if he pitches well enough. Burnes will have a second opinion on his right arm later this week, at which point fantasy managers should have a better idea if he'll miss the rest of 2025. Losing Burnes, the team's ace, for the rest of the year would be a tough blow for the Snakes. He's gone 3-2 with a 2.66 ERA and 1.17 WHIP with 63 K's in 64 1/3 innings over 11 starts in his first year in the desert.

Corbin Burnes Going for Second Opinion

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Corbin Burnes (elbow) is going for a second opinion on his injured right elbow on Thursday or Friday after initial tests were inconclusive, according to Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro. Burnes left his last start on Sunday against the Washington Nationals in the fifth inning in a good amount of pain, leading many to believe he had just suffered a season-ending elbow injury. That could still be the case, but we'll know more by this weekend. Either way, the 30-year-old veteran will almost certainly land on the 15-day injured list and could miss extensive time if he avoids a season-ending injury. Fantasy managers in redraft leagues shouldn't outright drop the D-backs ace until we know more about the severity of his elbow injury. Arizona already has Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) on the IL, but he's expected to rejoin the rotation next week.

Corbin Burnes Dealing with Elbow Inflammation

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Corbin Burnes (elbow) left Sunday's start with right-elbow inflammation, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today. While nothing is official yet, there's optimism that he avoided a serious injury. That would be great news if true, as things were looking very bleak as he left the game in the fifth inning with an immediate elbow issue after throwing a pitch. The 30-year-old has been the picture of health throughout his career, making at least 28 starts every year dating back to 2021. Even if he did avoid a potential elbow surgery, it's still likely that this will require a trip to the injured list to heal. Expect more updates after he undergoes an MRI on Monday.

Corbin Burnes Exits Early Due to Arm Injury

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Corbin Burnes (arm) was forced to make an early exit from Sunday's start against the Washington Nationals. Oh no, Burnes showed signs of decreased velocity before being taken out during the fifth inning. The expectation is that Burnes will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury. It's never good to see a pitcher leave a contest with an arm issue, but fantasy managers shouldn't jump to conclusions. This could end up only being a minor issue, so for now Burnes should be considered day-to-day. Before exiting, Burnes tossed 4 innings, allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out six batters. Fantasy managers will need to stay tuned for more updates on Burnes.

Corbin Burnes Strikes Out 10 in Six Shutout Innings

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Corbin Burnes posted his third straight quality start in Friday's 8-0 win over the Rockies. The veteran tossed six shutout innings, yielding two hits and three walks while striking out a season high 10 batters on the way to earning his third win of the season. The righty is now 3-1 and the performance lowered his ERA to 2.56 with a 1.25 WHIP and an 11.1 K-BB%. The 6-foot-3 hurler's strikeout rate has been dwindling since 2020, and his 11.6 percent walk rate this year is easily a career worst, but the 4x All-Star has been able to strand runners (80.8 percent LOB%) and limit damage. Burnes has been better at home (1.48 ERA) than on the road (3.80 ERA), and his next turn through the rotation will bring a tough matchup with the Dodgers in Los Angeles, so he may not be a DFS option for that contest on Wednesday.
