Joc Pederson, Geraldo Perdomo Out Versus Southpaw

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder/designated hitter Joc Pederson and shortstop Geraldo Perdomo are not in the starting lineup for Monday's series opener against the hosting Kansas City Royals with left-hander Cole Ragans toeing the rubber. Randal Grichuk is serving as the DH for Arizona and will hit fifth, while Kevin Newman is at the 6 and batting eighth versus Ragans. Pederson has only 21 plate appearances against lefties in 2024 and is hitting .177 (3-for-17) against them with one of his 13 homers on the year, so it's no surprise he's on the bench to kick off the week. Grichuk and Newman have both faced Ragans just once in their career and have come away hitless. Grichuk hasn't displayed much power in 155 at-bats in Arizona in 2024, but he's hitting an impressive .284, including a .300/.363/.420 slash line against southpaws with a homer and 17 RBI in 100 at-bats.

Geraldo Perdomo Starting Rehab Assignment On Wednesday

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) will start his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Wednesday. This was the original plan after Perdomo started taking at-bats in the Arizona Complex League over the weekend. Perdomo will now face stiffer competition at Reno and could be cleared to return from the 10-day injured list later this week if he doesn't suffer any setbacks with his knee. The Snakes have used a combination of rookie Blaze Alexander and more recently veteran Kevin Newman at shortstop since losing Perdomo to a knee injury early in April. The 24-year-old Perdomo will return to starting duties at the 6 in the desert when he's fully healthy after being named to his first career All-Star team in 2023 with a .246/.353/.359 slash line, six homers, 47 RBI and 16 steals in 144 games.

Geraldo Perdomo To Begin Rehab Assignment Next Week

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) is set to begin a minor-league rehab assignment early next week. Before that, Perdomo will play in the Arizona Complex League this weekend. The 24-year-old switch-hitter tore the right meniscus in his knee on April 3 against the New York Yankees after previously tweaking his knee in spring training. He's been out ever since after requiring surgery but could be nearing a return after being named an All-Star in 2023 while finishing second on the team in on-base percentage (.353). After Blaze Alexander got the first shot at the 6 with Perdomo hurt, veteran Kevin Newman has since taken over and has been a solid replacement. When Perdomo returns, the D-backs have made it clear that he will remain the starter at shortstop.

Geraldo Perdomo To Get Into Live Games "Very Shortly"

Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that the team is planning to get shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) into live games "very, very shortly" as he continues his rehab process. Perdomo has taken live at-bats but hasn't run the bases yet. Once the 24-year-old shortstop is cleared to go on a minor-league rehab assignment, he might not be far away from being reinstated from the injured list to rejoin Arizona's big-league roster. Still, fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to return until the calendar flips to June. When he's back in the desert, Perdomo should take over regular duties at the 6 for the D-backs. He was hitting .250 (6-for-24) with no homers and two RBI at the time of his injury in early April. Kevin Newman and Blaze Alexander have seen playing time at shortstop since Perdomo went down. Perdomo will first start playing in live games in the Arizona Complex League before likely going on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno.

Geraldo Perdomo Expected To Start Hitting This Week

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) has not been cleared for all baseball activities, but manager Torey Lovullo thinks he will start hitting this week. Perdomo has been in the cages tracking while getting work in fielding and throwing. The 24-year-old had surgery to fix a torn meniscus in his right knee after being put on the injured list and has a ways to go before he's ready to return to the major leagues. However, barring a setback once he begins full baseball activities, there's a chance he could return to Arizona before the end of May. With Perdomo out, rookie Blaze Alexander has been the D-backs' primary shortstop and has played well, hitting .286 (20-for-70) with three home runs, 13 RBI and a stolen base. The switch-hitting Perdomo should return to primary duties at the 6 when he's fully healthy.

Geraldo Perdomo Undergoes Surgery

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) had surgery on Monday to fix a torn meniscus in his right knee after being placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday. Manager Torey Lovullo said the surgery went well. Perdomo is "bummed" and hopes to be back next month. The D-backs brought up infielder Kevin Newman from Triple-A Reno, but Blaze Alexander is expected to see most of the playing time at the 6 in Perdomo's absence, with Jace Peterson also an option at the position. In six games at Reno, Newman hit .364/.407/.636 with a home run and seven RBI. The 24-year-old Perdomo injured his knee on April 3 while rounding the bases in extra innings and is expected to miss at least a month of action.

Geraldo Perdomo Has Torn Meniscus, Likely Out A Month

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) has been diagnosed with a torn meniscus in his right knee and will require surgery, likely keeping him out at least a month. Rookie Blaze Alexander figures to get much of the playing time, but the club is also expected to select the contract of Kevin Newman from Triple-A Reno. Veteran Jace Peterson is another option for the Snakes at the 6 until Perdomo is able to return in around a month. The 24-year-old Perdomo injured his knee on Wednesday and hasn't appeared since. Alexander, 24, has seen some time already this year against left-handed pitchers and has gone 5-for-18 (.278) with a homer, three RBI and a stolen base in his first six big-league games, but now he'll be playing regularly, making him worth a look in deep-mixed fantasy leagues for middle-infield depth.

Geraldo Perdomo Likely To Undergo MRI

Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Geraldo Perdomo (knee) could be looking at missing additional time after suffering an injury during Wednesday's game. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that Perdomo is likely to undergo an MRI on his injured knee after experiencing additional discomfort on Friday. The hope was that this was a day-to-day issue, but it could result in a trip to the injured list. Jace Peterson is starting at shortstop on Friday. The expectation is that Peterson and Blaze Alexander will split up the playing time at the 6 until Perdomo returns. Fantasy managers will need to check back for another update after the MRI.

Geraldo Perdomo Still Out Friday

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) is out of the team's starting lineup as they face the Braves in Atlanta on Friday. Perdomo left the team's game early on Wednesday against the New York Yankees and was diagnosed with right-knee discomfort. For now, fantasy managers should consider the 24-year-old to be day-to-day and check back on his availability on Saturday for the second game of the series. The Dominican infielder has six hits in his first 24 at-bats on the year with two RBI and three runs scored for the Snakes. Veteran Jace Peterson will start at the 6 on Friday and hit eighth in the lineup against Braves right-hander Spencer Strider. Against one of the best pitchers in the game, we'd recommend avoiding Peterson in DFS. UPDATE: Perdomo looked good but didn't feel good on Friday, manager Torey Lovullo said. Perdomo experienced enough discomfort that he'll likely undergo an MRI exam on Saturday.

Geraldo Perdomo Injured On Wednesday

Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Geraldo Perdomo (knee) left Wednesday's extra-inning loss to the New York Yankees in the 10th inning and was walking with a slight limp. He started hobbling halfway to second base and stood on the bag hunched over for a while before leaving the game. The Arizona Republic's Theo Mackie suggests it could have been Perdomo's knee, which he had a minor issue with during spring training. Before leaving, Perdomo went 0-for-4 with an RBI and two strikeouts in the 6-5 loss. If the 24-year-old is forced to miss any time because of the injury, expect Blaze Alexander to see most of the playing time at shortstop for Arizona. Until we know more on Perdomo's injury, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day. The D-backs are off on Thursday before heading to Atlanta to face the Braves on Friday. UPDATE: Perdomo is officially listed as day-to-day with right-knee discomfort.
