Gabriel Moreno to be Back in Friday's Lineup

Arizona Diamonbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (finger) is set to be activated from the 60-day injured list and return to the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Cincinnati Reds, according to manager Torey Lovullo. "I penciled [Gabriel Moreno] in the lineup for tonight," Lovullo said on MLB Network radio on SiriusXM. The D-backs will be taking on Reds right-hander Zack Littell in the series opener in the desert. The Snakes are ready to bring the 25-year-old backstop back after he caught back-to-back games in the minors for Triple-A Reno on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Moreno has been out since mid-June with a fractured finger, but he will return to starting duties behind the plate for Arizona the rest of the way. The Venezuelan will be returning to a .270/.324/.414 slash line with only five home runs, 20 RBI and 29 runs scored in 174 at-bats in 2025.

Gabriel Moreno Nearing Return

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (finger) is on the verge of returning from the 60-day injured list. He'll catch back-to-back games on Tuesday and Wednesday during his Triple-A rehab assignment, and if all goes well, the Diamondbacks will activate him. The club has gone without the 25-year-old since June 14 as a result of a hairline fracture in his right index finger. Before suffering the injury, Moreno hit .270/.324/.414 with five homers, 20 RBI, and 29 runs scored in 188 plate appearances. James McCann, who signed with the Diamondbacks after Moreno's injury, and Jose Herrera have been doing most of the catching in Moreno's absence.

Gabriel Moreno Will Rehab At Triple-A Reno on Tuesday

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (finger) will go on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday, per manager Torey Lovullo. It looks like Arizona's next homestand is the target for reinforcements and roster decisions, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Moreno is eligible to return from the 60-day injured list on Aug. 18, and he looks like he'll have a shot to be activated on that date if all goes smoothly on his rehab assignment. On the season, Moreno is slashing .270/.324/.414 with five home runs, 20 RBI, and 29 runs scored in 188 plate appearances. That slash line aligns with his career numbers through his previous three MLB seasons with a slash line of .278/.343/.397. Moreno is known for his contact, hard-hit, and squared-up percentage to go along with his defensive skills, including throwing out runners attempting to steal bases. The power has yet to surface, and he has never hit more than 12 home runs in a season at any level in his eight-year career. Fantasy managers looking for a good contact guy who doesn't strike out much will find just that in Moreno.

Gabriel Moreno Throws Out to 90 Feet, Catches Bullpen Session

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (finger) threw out to 90 feet and caught right-hander Zac Gallen's bullpen session on Tuesday, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports. Moreno also hit off a tee for the second straight day as he continues working back from a hairline fracture in his right index finger. The 25-year-old hasn't played since June 14, but a CT scan came back clean Monday, paving the way for a potential mid-August return. Moreno hit .270/.324/.414 with five homers, 20 RBI, and 29 runs scored over 188 plate appearances before he went on the IL. James McCann and Jose Herrera have split catching duties for Arizona in Moreno's absence.

Gabriel Moreno Begins Tee Work, Nearing Return to Diamondbacks

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (hand) has resumed swinging a bat and has started tee work after an August 4 CT scan confirmed his right hand had fully healed. Moreno landed on the injured list on June 19 and was transferred to the 60-day IL on July 18 after suffering a hairline fracture in his right hand from a foul tip on June 6. He is expected to make a return in mid-August. The 25-year-old was slashing a productive .270/.324/.414 with a .738 OPS over 53 games prior to the injury. His return would provide a much-needed boost to a Diamondbacks team losing postseason hopes in the NL West.

Gabriel Moreno Weeks Away From Baseball Activities

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (finger) recently got a CT scan that showed his finger is not completely healed, reports Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic. He will likely need a couple more weeks before resuming baseball activities. Even once the 25-year-old does start up baseball activities again, he'll still be looking at a lengthy rehab process before being ready for game action. He has been sidelined since June 14th after suffering a hairline fracture in his right index finger. Mid-to-late August is looking like the best-case scenario at this point for the youngster, who was batting .270 with five home runs in 53 games before the injury.

Gabriel Moreno Set for CT Scan This Week

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (finger) will undergo another CT scan this week, per MLB.com. Moreno suffered a right-hand contusion on June 6 against the Cincinnati Reds and was later diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his right index finger. He originally went on the 10-day injured list on June 19 before being transferred to the 60-day IL on July 18. Barring a setback once he begins doing baseball activities, Moreno could return to the Diamondbacks in late August as their primary catcher. In the meantime, Jose Herrera and James McCann will continue to split time behind the dish in Arizona. The 25-year-old Moreno was hitting a strong .270/.324/.414 with a .738 OPS, five home runs, 20 RBI and 29 runs scored in 53 games before his injury. If he gets good news on his CT scan, he could resume baseball activities later this week.

Gabriel Moreno Running, Receiving Pitches

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (finger) is running and receiving pitches, but he's still unable to use his right hand, manager Torey Lovullo said. Moreno has been out for three weeks with a hairline fracture in his right index finger. The Diamondbacks are hopeful that Moreno will be able to return by late July. Before suffering the injury, the 25-year-old hit .270/.324/.414 with five homers, 20 RBI, and 29 runs scored in 188 plate appearances. The Diamondbacks are relying on Jose Herrera and James McCann behind the plate until Moreno returns.

Gabriel Moreno Has Fractured Finger

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (finger) has a hairline fracture in his right index finger, manager Torey Lovullo announced. Moreno went to the 10-day IL on Thursday (retroactive to June 16) with a hand contusion, but it turns out to be a more significant injury than the team realized. It's now all but guaranteed that he will not rejoin the Diamondbacks when he's first eligible to return on June 27. Moreno, who played through the injury over the past couple of weeks, has batted a respectable .270/.324/.414 with five home runs and 20 RBI in 188 trips to the plate. The Diamondbacks will have to rely on Jose Herrera and Aramis Garcia behind the plate until Moreno comes back.

Diamondbacks Put Gabriel Moreno on 10-Day Injured List With Hand Contusion

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Thursday that they placed catcher Gabriel Moreno (hand) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to June 16) with a right-hand contusion and selected the contract of catcher Aramis Garcia from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move. The team also moved right-hander Christian Montes De Oca (back, elbow) to the 60-day IL. Moreno originally injured his hand back on June 6. There's a good chance the 25-year-old will be ready to come off the IL when he's eligible on June 27. In the meantime, Jose Herrera will serve as the team's primary backstop, with Garcia backing him up. Moreno has made plenty of contact and has hit a solid .270 (47-for-174) for a catcher, but he's added just five homers, 20 RBI and 29 runs scored for hi fantasy managers. Still, he's on pace for a career-high in long balls in his fourth year in the league.
