Brandon Pfaadt News
Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt has been roughed up in a small sample so far in Cactus League action. He's made just three outings and pitched a total of only 5 2/3 innings but has allowed seven earned runs on eight hits, including a homer, and one walk in that time while only striking out a pair. He also hasn't pitched in a big-league spring game since March 10 as he is running out of time to build up his innings for the regular season. Projected to line up as the D-backs' fourth starter, the 25-year-old posted a 5.72 ERA alongside a solid 16.2% K-BB% across 19 outings (18 starts) in the big leagues last season and also worked to a 3.71 ERA and a 20.8% K-BB% in 12 Triple-A starts. His control is excellent but he is a big fly-ball pitcher who is susceptible to the long ball, putting a damper on his fantasy value.
Arizona Diamondbacks rookie right-hander Brandon Pfaadt is starting Game 3 of the World Series on Monday against the Texas Rangers. Pfaadt had a 5.72 ERA during the regular season in 19 games (18 starts), but he's peaking in his first postseason and has allowed only two runs in his last three playoff starts. The 25-year-old led the minors in strikeouts with 218 last year and was ranked the No. 33 prospect in all of baseball in May. In his MLB debut on May 3, Pfaadt was bashed for seven earned runs on nine hits (four home runs) while walking one and striking out three in 4 2/3 innings against the Rangers. After being sent to the minors for the second time, Pfaadt moved his position on the mound from the third-base side to the first-base side. The young hurler also has incorporated a sinker since his first stint in the bigs earlier this year. The two changes have helped his fastball and sweeper become more effective weapons.
Arizona Diamondbacks rookie right-hander Brandon Pfaadt had a pretty solid Game 7 start against the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night in the National League Championship Series, all things considered. In four innings of work, Pfaadt gave up two earned runs on four hits (one homer) while walking two and striking out seven for a no-decision. Pfaadt kept the D-backs in the game and held down the offensive juggernaut of the Phillies for a 4-2 win to send Arizona to their first World Series since 2001. The 25-year-old has been a work in progress in his first MLB season, but he's peaking at the right time and has struck out 11.9 hitters per nine innings in his first 16 2/3 playoff innings. The Snakes can only hope he can keep this up against the Texas Rangers in the Fall Classic.

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitching Brandon Pfaadt was one of the most hyped pitching prospects going into 2023, but he struggled for most of his rookie year. He had a 5.72 ERA in nineteen starts with 94 strikeouts over 96 innings pitched. However, he turned it around in the postseason, posting a 3.27 ERA and 26 Ks over 22 IP. His success down the stretch is likely attributed to his adjustments after the All-Star break. In the second half, he started pitching from the first-base side of the rubber rather than the third-base side. He also threw more sinkers (19% of his pitches were sinkers in the playoffs). Among other things, these changes helped him increase his strikeout rate and lower his home-run rate. Going into 2024, Pfaadt looks to continue improving at the big-league level. With an ADP of around 223, he is a relatively low-risk option with plenty of upside. ATC projects Pfaadt with a 4.33 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 136 strikeouts over 142 innings, making him a solid value at his current ADP.
