Diamondbacks Set Rotation to Kick Off Second Half

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt is scheduled to start on Friday against the St. Louis Cardinals for the start of the second half. It is odd that Pfaadt is the first to start after the All-Star break, considering he owns a 5.16 ERA in 99 1/3 innings pitched thus far in 2025. Nonetheless, Pfaadt will attempt to build off his strong outing on July 9 against the San Diego Padres, where he threw eight innings, allowed two earned runs, struck out four, and didn't walk a batter. Outside of his 5.16 ERA, he holds a 1.31 WHIP and an 84/23 K/BB ratio over 19 starts. Pfaadt will be hard to trust until he starts pitching to his potential. Following Pfaadt, Ryne Nelson will toe the rubber on Saturday while Merrill Kelly is set to pitch the final game of the series.

Brandon Pfaadt Scheduled to Start Friday

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Brandon Pfaadt is scheduled to start on Friday against the Cardinals to open the second half of the season, reports Alex Weiner of AZ Sports. He'll be followed by Ryne Nelson on Saturday and Merrill Kelly on Sunday, which leaves Zac Gallen to start the next series against the Astros. Pfaadt ended the first half with one of his better starts of the season, allowing two runs over eight innings against the Padres. The 26-year-old has also suffered a handful of very bad outings, which have ballooned his season-long ERA to 5.16 and his WHIP to 1.31. The right-hander has also struck out batters at a lesser rate than in 2024, with only 84 punchouts in 99 innings.

Brandon Pfaadt Notches Quality Start, Earns Win on Wednesday

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt notched a quality start in an 8-2 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. Pfaadt tossed eight innings of two-run ball, allowing four hits and striking out four while walking none in the win. The veteran improved his record to 9-6 on the year, to go along with a 5.16 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 84 strikeouts over 99 1/3 innings of work. Pfaadt has a decent strikeout rate but will need to do a better job of preventing runs to be worth a starting spot in fantasy when he emerges from the All-Star break.

Brandon Pfaadt Gets His Sixth Win On Thursday

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (6-2) was solid Thursday evening against a red-hot Los Angeles Dodgers offense. Through 6 innings, he only allowed four hits, three walks, and struck out six batters. It was an excellent rebound for Pfaadt, who was tagged for six earned runs in his previous start against the Philadelphia Phillies. This outing lowered his season ERA to 3.28. The three walks were unusual for Pfaadt, as so far in 2025, he ranks in the 85th percentile in walks allowed (5.1 percent), so look for him to clean that up in his next outing, which is tentatively lined up in San Francisco next Tuesday to take on the another division opponent, the Giants. This will be another tough outing for Pfaadt, as the Giants are solid against right-handed pitchers (.243/.326/.396) and rank ninth in the MLB in runs scored. Still, Pfaadt has earned the opportunity to be matchup-proof for his fantasy managers in 2025.

Brandon Pfaadt Sharp In Tuesday's Victory

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Brandon Pfaadt tossed six innings of one-run ball en route to earning the victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday evening. Pfaadt allowed just four hits and walks. He struck out five batters. His lone blemish came in the second frame when outfielder Jake Mangum would hit an RBI single to center field, which scored Kameron Misner. This is another impressive outing for Pfaadt. Over his last three starts, the 26-year-old has logged 17 2/3 innings to the tune of a stellar 1.02 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. During this stretch, he has allowed just four free passes, but has only struck out 14 batters. In his first two starts of the season, he posted a modest 5.25 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP. Given his recent stretch of performances, he remains a strong play in all standard formats in his next scheduled start against the Atlanta Braves.

Brandon Pfaadt Earns Win In Solid Outing

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Brandon Pfaadt was solid on Wednesday, allowing one run over 5 innings in a 6-2 win over the Marlins. He allowed five hits and two walks while striking out six. He finished one out shy of making this his fourth consecutive six-inning outing to begin the year, and he now holds a solid 3.04 ERA. It was nice to see his strikeouts back, as he had only 12 in 18 innings through his first three starts. He'll look to keep things rolling in his next time out, currently set to be against the Rays.

The veteran hurler is off to a solid start in 2025, posting a 3.50 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, and 12 strikeouts over 18 innings of work thus far. Pfaadt is likely to make his next start against the Miami Marlins next week.

Diamondbacks Sign Brandon Pfaadt To Five-Year Extension

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Friday that they signed right-hander Brandon Pfaadt to an undisclosed five-year contract extension from 2026-30 with a club option for 2031 and a mutual option for the 2032 season. Pfaadt was previously set to hit free agency after the 2029 season. The D-backs are locking in one or their best young arms and buying out all of his arbitration years. The 26-year-old former fifth-round pick in 2020 out of Bellarmine University made his major-league debut in 2023 and has gone 14-19 with a 5.06 ERA (4.15 FIP) and 1.29 WHIP with 279 strikeouts and 68 walks in 277 2/3 innings over 51 appearances (50 starts) in his first two MLB seasons in the desert. On the surface, he disappointed with a 4.71 ERA in 32 starts in 2024, but he was a bit unlucky while improving both his strikeout and walk rates. Fantasy managers are hoping for a step forward in 2025.

Brandon Pfaadt Secures Starting Rotation Spot

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Brandon Pfaadt has won the final spot in the rotation. The right-hander has done a nice job this spring with a 3.18 ERA and 13/2 K/BB ratio across 11 innings of work. Pfaadt was a healthy and capable option for the D-Backs last season. He registered a 4.71 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 185/42 K/BB ratio across 32 starts in 2024. This means, Jordan Montgomery and Ryne Nelson will head to the bullpen to begin the season. Neither pitcher is expected to offer much fantasy value as long relief options.

Brandon Pfaadt Strikes Out Seven In Spring Training Start

The Arizona Diamondbacks' right-handed pitcher, Brandon Pfaadt, was sharp in his final spring training outing against the San Diego Padres. He threw five innings, allowed two hits, and struck out seven batters. Most of the Padres' top hitters played in yesterday's game, including Luis Arraez, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Manny Machado. Pfaadt's outing was an extremely encouraging sign as he enters the 2025 season looking to cement himself as a consistent pitcher in the MLB. During the 2024 season, Pfaadt had his ups and downs but finished with a 4.71 ERA and a 10.32 K/9. Pfaadt is currently slated to be in the Diamondbacks rotation as their No. four or five starter. Fantasy Managers looking for a young arm with some upside should target Pfaadt in their fantasy drafts. He has a strong strikeout percentage and doesn't walk many batters (87th percentile).
