Mitch Bratt Being Called Up to Start on Sunday, Worth an Add Off Waivers?

The Arizona Diamondbacks are calling up left-handed pitching prospect Mitch Bratt to make the start in Sunday's series finale against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers, with right-hander Zac Gallen (elbow) likely heading to the injured list, according to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic. Sunday's contest in the final game of the first half of the season will be Bratt's second big-league start after he allowed an earned run on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts over three innings in his major-league debut on June 24 at the St. Louis Cardinals. The 23-year-old Canadian southpaw is considered the team's No. 13 prospect at MLB Pipeline, and the former fifth-rounder by the Texas Rangers in 2021 has posted a 2.41 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 51:14 K:BB in 52 1/3 innings over his 13 starts this year at Reno. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder could be a candidate to take Gallen's rotation spot to begin the second half if he handles himself well on Sunday, but we wouldn't recommend Bratt as a streamer against L.A. in just his second start in the majors. Bratt has gone fewer than five innings in five of his last six outings on the farm as well, so we don't expect him to stick around long on Sunday.

Diamondbacks Set to Promote No. 14 Prospect Mitch Bratt to Make MLB Debut

Arizona Diamondbacks left-handed pitching prospect Mitch Bratt has joined the club's taxi squad and is expected to be activated to make his major-league debut against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. The 22-year-old is ranked as the No. 14 prospect in Arizona's system by MLB Pipeline. Bratt has gone 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 42 strikeouts across 44 1/3 innings and 11 starts for Triple-A Reno. His strong command has been the foundation of his success, although his arsenal is built more around location and pitch mixing than overpowering velocity. The left-hander recently returned from an injured-list stint caused by shoulder inflammation and allowed two runs over four innings while working on a limited pitch count. He may therefore have a restricted workload during his debut. Bratt is expected to fill the rotation opening created by Michael Soroka's glute injury, but Arizona has not guaranteed him an extended stay. He is worth a speculative addition in deeper leagues, while standard-league managers should monitor his workload and initial performance before using a roster spot.

Mitch Bratt Joining Arizona

The Arizona Diamondbacks are acquiring left-handed pitching prospect Mitch Bratt, along with Kohl Drake and David Hagaman, from the Texas Rangers in exchange for right-hander Merrill Kelly. Bratt has spent his entire 2025 campaign pitching for Double-A Frisco. Through 90 2/3 innings of work (spent primarily on the rotation), Bratt has held a 3.18 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP. During this stretch, left-handed struck out 106 batters and allowed only 16 free passes. This is an excellent sign for the former fifth-round pick, as he held a much higher 5.45 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP during his first taste of Double-A during the 2024 campaign. Before the trade, Bratt was ranked as the No. 18-overall prospect in the system. Fantasy managers should expect Bratt to begin his tenure in the desert at the Double-A level.

Mitch Bratt Impressing at Double-A in 2025

Texas Rangers pitching prospect Mitch Bratt has turned in an impressive first half for Double-A Frisco, recording a 2.73 ERA (2.86 FIP), 1.13 WHIP, and a phenomenal 26.4 percent K-BB% in 15 starts (79 innings pitched). The Rangers' 18th-ranked prospect has always displayed better-than-average control, posting a 6.8 percent walk rate during his minor-league career from 2021-24, but he's dropped it all the way down to 4.0 percent in 2025 while registering the best strikeout rate of his minor-league career, coming in at 30.4 percent. The 6-foot-1 lefty could be on his way to Triple-A in the coming weeks and could be ticketed for an MLB debut in 2026, but he is not on the dynasty radar at the moment.

Mitch Bratt Deals In Double-A Debut

Texas Rangers left-handed pitching prospect Mitch Bratt turned in an impressive Double-A debut on Thursday night, with five scoreless innings with a hit allowed and two walks to go with four strikeouts in picking up the victory. Bratt is 7-4 in 16 total starts this season with a 2.84 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. The numbers are sparkling for the 21-year-old Canadian. The Rangers' No. 21 prospect has 50-grade pitches in his fastball, slider, and changeup with above-average control. The Double-A debut is a great sign as Bratt tries to close out an excellent season with a good final two months.
