Tommy Troy Riding Three-Game Hitting Streak Since Snapping Slump
Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop prospect Tommy Troy is currently riding a three-game hitting streak since getting off to a slow start in his return to High-A. Troy returned to High-A after completing a rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League after recovering from a hamstring injury in late June. In his first four games since returning to High-A, the Stanford product tallied only one hit with a poor .059 AVG. However, in his past three games, he has tallied six hits with a .545 AVG. While the former 12th overall pick in last year's draft has had a tough time this season, he could be in for a big second half as he gets himself settled at High-A.
Tommy Troy Begins To Find Footing On Rehab Assignment
Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop prospect Tommy Troy (hamstring) has tallied at least two hits in consecutive rehab games and is beginning to find his footing in the batter's box after going hitless in his first three rehab games. Troy was placed on the seven-day injured list on April 26 with a hamstring strain. He has logged five rehab games in the Arizona Complex League and holds an overall .250/.278/.500 line. Before the injury, the number 60 ranked prospect in baseball on MLB.com was at High-A. When activated from the injured list, the former 12th overall pick should be expected to return to High-A for the majority of the summer. Troy has logged 35 games at the High-A level over the past two summers and posted a pedestrian .224/.305/.388 slash line.
Former first-round draft pick Tommy Troy is having trouble getting out of the gate in 2024. Through 34 plate appearances at High-A Hillsboro, Troy is hitting .188/.235/.313 with a home run. The former Stanford shortstop has only struck out seven times, and his .208 BABIP and strong pedigree suggest better days are ahead. Troy remains an intriguing fantasy prospect and should get the benefit of the doubt over the small sample size thus far. The 12th overall pick in the 2023 draft, Troy offers good bat-to-ball skills to go along with good plate discipline. Troy also plays variety infield positions which should help him ascend throughout the minor league system. For now, the consensus Top-100 prospect is a name for dynasty managers to keep tabs on, but he is a few years away from making an impact in redraft leagues.
