Tyler Locklear to Have Elbow and Shoulder Surgeries

Arizona Diamondbacks first base prospect Tyler Locklear (elbow, shoulder) will have surgeries on both his elbow and shoulder on Oct. 16 after he was involved in a collision in early September, a source told The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro. It's a worst-case scenario for the young first baseman after he joined the Snakes at midseason in the trade that sent Eugenio Suarez to the Seattle Mariners in July. Locklear suffered a torn ligament in his left elbow and also needs the labrum in his left shoulder fixed. The good news is that both injuries are to his non-throwing arm. The bad news is that Locklear probably will not be ready to go for the start of the 2026 regular season. The D-backs are hoping that he will make it back at some point next year, but there's no current timetable on when that might be. The 24-year-old played in only 31 big-league games in Arizona after the trade and struggled before his injury, going 18-for-103 (.175) with three homers and 43 strikeouts.

Tyler Locklear Expected to Miss Rest of Season

Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Tyler Locklear (elbow) is expected to miss the rest of the season with an injured left elbow. Locklear landed on the 10-day IL on Monday after colliding with Boston Red Sox catcher Connor Wong on Sunday. The Diamondbacks are still determining the severity of Locklear's injury, but with little time left in the season, they're likely to shut him down. Acquired from the Seattle Mariners in July in a deal for third baseman Eugenio Suarez, the 24-year-old Locklear struggled to a .175/.267/.262 line with three homers, six RBI, 11 runs scored, and three stolen bases in 116 plate appearances this season. He figures to vie for a regular role next spring, but in the meantime, Ildemaro Vargas could finish 2025 as the Diamondbacks' primary first baseman.

Tyler Locklear Finding Footing in Major Leagues

Arizona Diamondbacks first base prospect Tyler Locklear has begun to find his footing in the major leagues. The Mariners shipped Locklear as the headline piece in the deal to acquire third baseman Eugenio Suarez at the trade deadline. Locklear has covered first base since moving to the desert as the Diamondbacks also shipped Josh Naylor to the Mariners in an earlier trade. During his first eight games serving as a full-time player, Locklear held a low .148/.303/.259 line with just four total hits. However, over his last five games, Lockear has tallied five total hits. Prior to his recent two-game skid, Locklear carried a three-game hitting streak. Earlier in the season at Triple-A, he held a .316 AVG with a strong .943 OPS. He could become a viable corner infielder in standard leauges if he continues to turn the corner.

Tyler Locklear Covering First Base in Arizona Debut

Arizona Diamondbacks first base prospect Tyler Locklear is in the starting lineup and covering first base when they begin a series on Friday evening against the Athletics. Locklear is slated to bat in the six-hole. The Mariners sent Locklear to the desert as the headliner piece in a deal that brought third baseman Eugenio Suarez back to Seattle. Locklear was ranked as the No. 10-best prospect in the Seattle system before the trade. The VCU product made his MLB debut during the 2024 campaign but was only given a short look as he held a .525 OPS across 49 PAs. However, at Triple-A this season, Locklear has been quite productive, posting a strong .316/.401/.542 line with a .943 OPS. Given his everyday role in Arizona going forward, he is worth adding in all deeper 12+ team formats.

Tyler Locklear to Start at First Base in Arizona

John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports reports that the plan is for recently acquired first base prospect Tyler Locklear to immediately play first base for the Arizona Diamondbacks after they acquired him as part of the package for All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suarez on Wednesday night. The D-backs will give Locklear every opportunity to win the job for the future, while Tristin English will likely be sent to the minors to make room on the active roster. After the trade, the 24-year-old is ranked by MLB Pipeline as Arizona's No. 6 prospect. Pavin Smith (oblique), who is on the injured list, can continue to pick up playing time at DH and in the outfield when he returns. Locklear hit .156 (7-for-45) with two homers and 20 K's in his first 16 big-league games with the M's last year but was hitting .316 with 19 homers and 17 steals at Triple-A Tacoma in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League this year.

Tyler Locklear Traded to Arizona

The Arizona Diamondbacks are acquiring first base prospect Tyler Locklear from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for third baseman Eugenio Suarez. In this package, the Mariners are also acquiring right-handed prospect pitchers Hunter Cranton and Juan Burgos. Locklear was considered the No. 9-ranked prospect in the Seattle system before the trade and is viewed as the headliner piece in the deal. The first baseman was actually en route to join Seattle on Wednesday, but was then traded shortly after. Locklear made his MLB debut in the 2024 season but only appeared in 16 games. This season, the VCU product has spent the entire campaign with Triple-A Tacoma, and has been one of the top hitters at the level, holding a .316/.401/.542 slash line with 25 doubles and 19 home runs. Fantasy managers should monitor his status as he could be given an extended look at the major leagues during the final months of the season.

Tyler Locklear Joining Mariners Roster on Wednesday

Seattle Mariners first base prospect Tyler Locklear was pulled from Triple-A Tacoma's game on Tuesday night and is expected to join the big-league roster in Sacramento on Wednesday, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. A corresponding move will be made on Wednesday. With Seattle's recent acquisition of Josh Naylor, Locklear will likely be limited to a part-time role as a power bat off the bench. The 24-year-old is coming off a scorching week at Triple-A, which included a stretch when he went 9-for-9 with four homers, nine RBI, and a 1.745 OPS. That earned him the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week honors. It's been a prolonged stretch of strong production for the slugging first baseman, as he leads Triple-A with 16 homers and 56 RBI and is second in OPS at 1.140 since the start of June. He likely won't play enough to be relevant in fantasy, except for deep AL-only formats.

Tyler Locklear Dominates Triple-A, Eyes Return to Mariners

Seattle Mariners No. 9 prospect Tyler Locklear exploded at Triple-A Tacoma last week, notching back-to-back four-hit games with five home runs and 10 RBI on the week. The 24-year-old first baseman is now slashing .316/.401/.543 with 19 homers and 18 steals on the year. After struggling in a brief MLB stint last season (.156 in 49 plate appearances), Locklear is making a strong case for a return. With Seattle cycling through underwhelming first base options, they recently acquired Josh Naylor from the Arizona Diamondbacks for help. It means that if Locklear joins the big-league club down the stretch, it will most likely be in a bench role.

Tyler Locklear Goes Deep, Swipes a Bag on Wednesday

Seattle Mariners first base prospect Tyler Locklear went 2-for-4 with a home run and a stolen base during their contest against Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday evening. This was Locklear's second-straight game tallying two hits and fifth-straight game reaching base safely. Since June 1, Locklear has enjoyed a productive stretch at the plate, posting a .310/.403/.640 slash line with seven doubles, one triple, eight home runs, and four stolen bases. Through 79 total games at Triple-A this season, Locklear has held a solid .293/.381/.478 line with 20 doubles, 11 round-trippers, and 13 swiped bags. The No. 11-ranked prospect in he system was given a taste of the majors last season but posted a low .156 AVG through 16 games. Given his production at Triple-A, Locklear should be in the mix to return to the big leagues in the coming weeks.

Tyler Locklear Hits Two Home Runs

Seattle Mariners first base prospect Tyler Locklear went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, and a walk during their contest against Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday evening. This outing extended Locklear's hitting streak to four games. During this stretch, Locklear has tallied five extra-base hits and held a 4:3 K:BB. Through 69 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season, the former 58th overall selection has been quite productive, posting a .297/.379/.459 slash line with 18 doubles, eight home runs, 12 stolen bases, and a 64:32 K:BB. The first baseman made his MLB debut last season but appeared in only 16 games. During this brief taste, Locklear posted a .156/.224/.311 line. Fantasy managers should expect Locklear to return to Seattle during the second half of the campaign.
