Seattle Mariners free-agent catcher Carlos Ruiz wants to continue playing in 2018, even though he'll turn 39 in January. He's remained in excellent shape and is currently working out in his home in Panama. Chooch is more of a defensive-minded backstop at the point in his career, and he hit just .216 with three homers and 11 RBI in 125 at-bats for the Mariners in 2017. If he keeps playing, he'll certainly be a backup, at best.
Seattle Mariners catcher Carlos Ruiz is hitting .125 this season and is 2-for-19 in the month of May. The catching position for the Mariners offensively this season has been a complete train wreck thus far. Starting catcher Mike Zunino was optioned to Triple-A after hitting .167, and Ruiz and Tuffy Gosewisch have been sharing the duties since. Zunino, Ruiz and Goswewisch have combined for 18 hits in 139 at-bats for a combined batting average of .129 this season. Ruiz is far removed from his 16-homer season in 2012 but should be considered the most palatable option fantasy-wise out of the three catchers right now.
