The Los Angeles Dodgers placed second baseman Chase Utley (wrist) on the 10-day disabled list on Thursday with left wrist inflammation. LA's infield is now jam packed with Justin Turner off the DL, Manny Machado at shortstop and new acquisition Brian Dozier at the keystone. Utley wasn't much of a fantasy factor to begin with, playing sparingly and hitting .240 with one home run and 14 RBI in 146 at-bats this year. He's more of a clubhouse presence than he is an on-field contributor in his final MLB season.
Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Chase Utley announced on Friday that he will retire at the end of the 2018 season, capping a 16-year career that included a World Series championship with the Phillies in 2008. He was named to six All-Star teams in his career, and he won five Silver Slugger awards. In his prime he was an elite second baseman who could hit for power and also steal bases, as he has 153 steals in 175 career attempts. The 39-year-old has become a part-time player with Los Angeles and is hitting just .231 with one home run and 14 RBI in 130 at-bats this year.
Veteran Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Chase Utley(thumb) has been activated from the disabled list after missing most of the last month with a sprained left thumb. He's not starting against the Mets on Friday, though, so there still isn't much upside for prospective fantasy owners. Utley, now 39, was slashing just .216/.302/.324 with a single home run and 24 RBI in 126 plate appearances before going down with the injury. He's not an everyday player and isn't likely to become one again.
