Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Chris Ellis (shoulder) underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder on Wednesday. The team announced that he will miss the remainder of the 2022 season. Ellis made just two starts this year before landing on the injured list. He had an ugly 10.38 ERA and 2.54 WHIP over those two starts, which spanned 4.1 innings. The 29-year-old will have a lengthy rehabilitation process ahead.
The Baltimore Orioles placed starting pitcher Chris Ellis (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. The move is retroactive to Monday, April 25. The 29-year-old is dealing with right shoulder inflammation. Left-handed pitcher Alexander Wells was called up from Triple-A to fill Ellis' roster spot. Wells made a relief appearance for the Orioles earlier this year before he was sent down to Triple-A. Ellis was scheduled to make his next start this coming Saturday against the Boston Red Sox. The team hasn't announced who will make that start in his place, but Wells could be a candidate as he's primarily been a starter in the minors.

The team will go with a bullpen game on Tuesday instead. Orioles manager Brandon Hyde told the media that Ellis is being pushed back "a couple of days." The 28-year-old right-hander has pitched well since being claimed off waivers in late August. Over five starts, he's posted a 2.82 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP. However, he hasn't pitched past the fifth inning in any of his starts with the Orioles yet and he's averaging just 5.6 K/9.
