Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts, Christian Vazquez Sit Friday

Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers, shortstop Xander Bogaerts, and catcher Christian Vazquez are all out of the clubs starting lineup Friday against Atlanta and right-hander Kyle Wright. Devers has been in a recent rut, with just a .188 on-base percentage over his last seven contests, while Vazquez has come out of his malaise as of late with a .466 SLG during September. Bogaerts is in the midst of an eight-game hitting streak, although he has not driven in a run since Sept. 6. Christian Arroyo will slot up the No. 2 spot in the order, with Kevin Plawecki taking over behind the dish. Expect the trio back for Saturday versus Atlanta, who has not yet named a starter.

Christian Vazquez Sits Wednesday Against Orioles

Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez is not among the clubs starting nine for Wednesdays contest versus Baltimore, ceding way to Kevin Plawecki behind the dish. Vazquez has plated runs in four of his last six appearances, having compiled a 1.040 OPS in that span. After a breakout offensive performance in 2019, Vazquez has posted similar metrics this year, which bodes well for his fantasy stock heading into 2021. He remains one of the premier catchers in season-long formats, with his next chance to rejoin the lineup coming Thursday versus Orioles righty Alex Cobb, whom he is 9-for-12 against in his career.

Christian Vazquez Heading To The Bench On Thursday

Boston Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez is getting the day off on Thursday against the Miami Marlins. Kevin Plawecki is getting the start at catcher and batting fifth in the game. Vazquez failed to hit a single home run in August and posted a disappointing slash line of .230/.272/.276 across the month. September has seen him come around a bit. He broke his home run drought this past Sunday and is slashing .293/.408/.366 through 11 games. Expect to see him back in the lineup on Friday as the team opens up a three-game series against the New York Yankees.
