Rays Bringing Back Cody Reed

The Tampa Bay Rays have re-signed relief pitcher Cody Reed to a minor league contract. The club also invited the left-handed pitcher to Spring Training. Reed pitched just 9.2 innings for the Rays last year and posted a 3.72 ERA and a 1.448 WHIP with seven strikeouts. The 28-year-old will likely be one of many Rays relievers filtered up and down between Triple-A and the majors next year, but he's not someone likely to see high-leverage innings for the Rays at any point in the season.

Cody Reed Undergoes Season-Ending Surgery Wednesday

Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Cody Reed (arm) underwent thoracic outlet surgery on Wednesday and will miss the remainder of the 2021 season, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Reed had been expected to miss extended time after being transferred to the 60-day injured list two weeks ago, but now he'll start working his way towards a return in 2022. Any managers that had him rostered should have already dropped him by now, but there is now zero reason to hang on to him in any redraft format.

Cody Reed Transferred To 60-Day IL

Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Cody Reed (hand) has been transferred from the 10-day injured list to 60-day injured list while he continues to deal with numbness and weakness in his hand, according to Marc Topkin. Manager Kevin Cash said that Reed has not yet seen a specialist for this issue, but the team expects him to be out for a while which led to the move. Reed had been a solid pitcher in SV/HLD formats this year, recording three holds in 12 appearances while posting a 3.72 ERA and seven strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings of work. Any managers who were rostering Reed can now safely drop him to the waiver-wire.

Cody Reed Likely Heading To IL

Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Cody Reed (hand) is likely heading to the injured list, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Reed exited the game with trainers in the eighth inning after allowing two walks with two strikeouts in 2/3 inning of work. Manager Kevin Cash said after the game that Reed will likely be sidelined by an issue with numbness in his thumb that has already cost him time this season. He's been a decent pitcher in deeper SV/HLD formats this season, with three holds in 11 appearances, albeit with a 3.72 ERA and seven strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings of work.

Collin McHugh, Cody Reed On The Comeback Trail

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Collin McHugh (back) "bounced back (and) felt good" after throwing a bullpen session, according to manager Kevin Cash. McHugh threw off a mound again on Monday and is eligible to come off the injured list on Wednesday. Left-hander Cody Reed (thumb) will not come off the injured list when he's eligible on Tuesday, but Cash said he expects Reed to have a "fairly quick turnaround" once he starts his throwing program following a Botox injection for his injury. McHugh has a rough 10.13 ERA in four outings so far this year, while Reed has given up just one earned run in his 3 1/3 innings pitched over five outings. The Rays bullpen is slowly getting healthier, with Pete Fairbanks also expected to return in short order.

Cody Reed Placed On Injured List With Hand Injury

The Tampa Bay Rays have placed relief pitcher Cody Reed (hand) on the 10-day injured list with numbness and weakness in his left hand. It is a recurrence of an injury that forced him to miss time in 2020. Reed has made five appearances this year, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing four hits, three walks and one earned run while striking out three and earning three holds. The Rays' bullpen has suffered a number of injuries to start the season. Reed will be joining relievers Nick Anderson (elbow), Pete Fairbanks (shoulder) and Collin McHugh (back) on the injured list. Brent Honeywell Jr. was recalled on Tuesday and should work in both middle and short relief for now as Ryan Thompson and Jeffrey Springs figure to be the team's primary setup men in front of closer Diego Castillo.

Cody Reed Makes 30-Man Roster

Cincinnati Reds left-hander Cody Reed made the Opening Day roster as the team gets ready to start their regular season. Reed will open the year pitching out of the bullpen. The southpaw was once regarded as one of the more promising arms in the Cincy pipeline but he's seen his star fade over the past few seasons, where he has compiled a 5.42 ERA across 114 2/3 innings in the big leagues. He has a solid fastball and slider and brings some strikeout upside to the table but he's not of interest in fantasy leagues these days.

Scott Schebler Optioned To Triple-A, Cody Reed Recalled

The Cincinnati Reds optioned outfielder Scott Schebler to Triple-A on Saturday. Schebler, who stood to see a big dent put in his playing time with the promotion of Nick Senzel, will look to get his season on track in the minors. The outfielder struggled at the plate this season, hitting just .123 with 27 strikeouts in 81 at-bats. The stay in the minors may not last long as team president Dick Williams told reporters that they expect to see Schebler back in the majors soon. The team also recalled left-hander Cody Reed to help shore up their bullpen after using their relievers extensively over the past few games. Reed had a 3.21 ERA in at Triple-A Louisville this season.

Cody Reed Gets Lit Up In Start Tuesday

Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Cody Reed did not fare well in Tuesday's 7-3 loss to the Pirates. The 25-year-old allowed six runs nine hits (including a home run) and a walk with two strikeouts in five innings. Reed now has a 4.81 ERA with 19 strikeouts and eight walks in 24 1/3 IP at the big league level this season. He is scheduled to face a decent matchup against the Padres in his next start, but at this point, there is no need to roster Reed.

Cody Reed To Enter Rotation

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Cody Reed will move from the bullpen to the rotation and start the series finale on Thursday against the Brewers. Sal Romano and Robert Stephenson will work as relievers now. Reed has a 2.79 ERA in seven relief outings for the Reds since being called up from Triple-A Louisville and has seen some high-leverage spots. The southpaw has gone 1-8 with a 6.75 ERA with the Reds the last two seasons, but he thinks he belongs now. Reed went 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in his final four starts on the farm with Louisville. We don't advise using Reed in a tough matchup with Milwaukee this week, but he could certainly have streaming appeal in deeper leagues down the stretch if he continues to pitch well.
