Corey Knebel News
The Philadelphia Phillies placed reliever Corey Knebel (lat) on the 15-day injured list on Monday due to a right lat strain. So far this season, Knebel has pitched to a 3.43 ERA and a 4.46 FIP in 44.2 innings in his first year with the Phillies, striking out 41 batters and allowing 28 walks in the process. He's also registered 12 saves and a pair of holds. Philadelphia also reinstated right-handed pitcher Sam Coonrod from the 60-day injured list and designated left-handed pitcher Andrew Vasquez for assignment.
Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Corey Knebel (lat) was removed in the seventh inning of Sunday's game against the New York Mets after throwing just 14 pitches. After the game, it was reported that he suffered a lat strain. He is scheduled to get an MRI on Monday, but the expectation ahead of the MRI is that he will require a stint on the injured list. Knebel began the year as the team's closer, but lost the job in mid-June. Since then, he has worked primarily as a low-leverage, late-inning reliever. He has a 3.43 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP on the year.
Philadelphia Phillies closer Corey Knebel managed to pick up his 10th save of the season in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Brewers. Knebel entered to pitch the bottom of the ninth with a one-run lead. He walked the leadoff hitter, got the first two outs on fly outs, allowed back-to-back walks to load the bases, and got the final out on a strikeout to end the game. Knebel has been seeing consistent save opportunities this season and does have a respectable 3.38 ERA, but he has also blown three saves and has a poor 5.25 BB/9 rate. Knebel is still a mid-tier closer in roto leagues given his defined role, but the walks could come back to hurt him if left unchecked.

Relief pitcher Corey Knebel signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies in December. He appears to be locked into the Phillies' closer role to begin the year. Knebel spent the 2021 season with the Los Angeles Dodgers. When he was healthy, he pitched well in a setup role in front of closer Kenley Jansen. He appeared in 27 games and had a 2.45 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP and a 28.7% strikeout rate. A midseason lat strain cost him about three months, but he closed the year healthy. The Phillies finished the 2021 season with an 82-80 record and all signs point to another season above-.500 for the team. Knebel currently has an ADP just inside the top-200. He's being drafted as about the 15th closer off the board. He's a great value at his current ADP as he has a strong chance of reaching 30 saves this year if he can stay healthy and effective. The closest thing he has to competition for saves right now is Jose Alvarado, who struggled in a closing role for the Phillies last year.
