Orioles Sign Curtis Terry To Minor-League Deal

The Baltimore Orioles signed free-agent third baseman Curtis Terry to a minor-league deal on Friday. Terry made his major-league debut with the Texas Rangers in 2021 and went 4-for-45 with no homers, one RBI, three runs scored and 15 strikeouts in 48 plate appearances over only 13 games played. The 26-year-old spent the 2022 campaign with the Minnesota Twins' Triple-A affiliate in St. Paul and slashed .250/.348/.429 with a .777 OPS, 10 home runs, 32 RBI and 41 runs scored in 80 games. Terry will provide the Orioles with depth at the hot corner this year, but he'll likely begin the regular season in the minor leagues.

Curtis Terry Gets First Career Hit

Texas Rangers first baseman Curtis Terry started his MLB career off 0-for-20 at the plate. However, he was able to get a few knocks during Monday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. He went 2-for-3 with a double and a single in the 4-1 victory. The 24-year-old will get a legitimate shot at the designated hitter spot going forward. Willie Calhoun (forearm) is still likely out until the end of August, so the Rangers will give Terry plenty of chances. He won't be a factor in fantasy leagues, but at least he was able to get a few hits on Monday.

Nick Solak Optioned, Curtis Terry Called Up

The Texas Rangers optioned infielder Nick Solak to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday and called up first baseman Curtis Terry from Round Rock in a corresponding move. Catcher Jose Trevino (forearm) was also activated from the injured list and catcher John Hicks was designated for assignment. Solak started the year off hot but has been in a major slump since May and is being sent down to work on his swing. He was hitting just .225/.295/.353 with nine home runs, 34 RBI and four stolen bases in 334 at-bats. Solak should be back at some point this season. Andy Ibanez is in line for regular duty at second base, making him more attractive in deep leagues. Terry, the team's No. 26 prospect per MLB Pipeline, hit .294/.375/.583 with 17 home runs and 53 RBI at Round Rock this year and is worth speculating on in deep mixed leagues. The 24-year-old right-handed hitter should see regular at-bats between first base and designated hitter. The 6-foot-2, 258-pounder makes loud contact and has plenty of power for those in need.

Rangers Expected To Call Up First Base Prospect Curtis Terry

The Texas Rangers are expected to call up first baseman Curtis Terry from Triple-A this weekend, potentially as soon as Friday. The 24-year-old is currently ranked as the 26th best prospect in the Rangers organization by MLB.com. He has been red hot at Triple-A this year, slashing .294/.375/.583 with 17 home runs, 53 RBI and 40 runs over 65 games. He was a 13th round pick of the Rangers back in 2015 and hadn't played above Single-A prior to this year. The Rangers' President of Baseball Operations, Jon Daniels, recently stated that the club would be promoting the organization's top performers in the minors soon. Based on how well Terry has been hitting, he will likely be one of the first names called. Fantasy managers in deep leagues and AL-only leagues looking for a high-upside hitter to take a flyer on should keep Terry on their radar.
