Rangers Claim Dairon Blanco Off Waivers From Royals

The Texas Rangers have claimed outfielder Dairon Blanco off waivers from the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. Blanco quickly finds a new home after being designated for assignment by the Royals earlier in the week. Blanco figures to have a legitimate shot at claiming a 26-man roster spot. The 32-year-old is a solid contact hitter with elite speed. Blanco has recorded 59 steals over parts of four seasons with the Royals. He could be a potential platoon option in the outfield, but his fantasy value will be dependent on his playing time.

Dairon Blanco Designated for Assignment by Royals

Kansas City Royals outfielder Dairon Blanco has been designated for assignment by the organization on Monday. Blanco gets booted off the roster with the Royals needing to free up a 40-man roster spot with the Starling Marte signing becoming official on Monday. The 32-year-old only played in nine games with the Royals last season, but his speed is something that could make him an attractive option for other organizations. Blanco has stolen 59 bases across 285 plate appearances in parts of four seasons with the Royals. He could draw interest on waivers as possible outfield depth.

Dairon Blanco Avoids Full Concussion

Kansas City Royals manager Matt Quatraro said on Monday that outfielder Dairon Blanco (head) avoided a full concussion, but he will be taking it easy over the next few days with light activity inside, according to Anne Rogers of MLB.com. Blanco will continue to be evaluated by the medical staff after getting hit square in the helmet by a 90 mph pitch in the seventh inning of Sunday's Cactus League game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 32-year-old Cuban outfielder should be fine for Opening Day in late March, but he won't be on the fantasy baseball radar in the vast majority of leagues. Blanco has a career .257/.312/.416 slash line with a .728 OPS, seven home runs, 34 RBI, 59 runs scored, and 59 stolen bases in 171 games over his four seasons with the Royals. He played in only nine big-league games in 2025 and went 1-for-6 at the plate with an RBI and three steals.

Dairon Blanco Being Evaluated for Head Injury

Kansas City Royals outfielder Dairon Blanco (head) was removed early during Sunday's Spring Training contest versus the Milwaukee Brewers. Blanco is being evaluated for a head injury after being hit in the head by a 90 mph pitch in the seventh inning. Manager Matt Quatraro said Blanco was dizzy getting up, but was able to walk and knew where he was. There is no word on whether or not Blanco has suffered a concussion. The expectation is that the Royals will take the cautious approach and hold out Blanco for the next few days.

Royals Option Dairon Blanco to Triple-A

The Kansas City Royals announced on Monday that they optioned outfielder Dairon Blanco to Triple-A Omaha to make room for outfield/first base prospect Jac Caglianone. Blanco will get sent back to the farm after going just 1-for-6 with an RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases for the Royals in just nine games played this year. The 32-year-old veteran was recently activated from a stint on the injured list on May 16. The Cuban outfielder made his debut in the big leagues with the Royals in 2022 and has hit .257/.312/.416 with seven home runs, 34 RBI, 59 stolen bases and 59 runs scored in 171 games for the Royals since. Speed is his biggest attraction in fantasy after stealing a combined 55 bags in 2023 and 2024 for KC. If Blanco makes it back to the majors this year, he'll serve as outfield depth off the bench.

Dairon Blanco Could Begin Rehab Assignment This Week

Kansas City Royals outfielder Dairon Blanco (Achilles) received a platelet-rich plasma injection on April 4 after his Achilles flared up on March 30. Blanco then ran the bases for the first time last Friday, and he could start a minor-league rehab assignment this week. The 32-year-old veteran is attempting to return from right-Achilles tendinopathy, which landed him on the 10-day injured list back on March 31. If he is able to start a rehab assignment this week and avoid setbacks, he could return to the Royals next week. Blanco was able to take part in the team's pre-game activities on Wednesday and is getting close to his return to the big leagues. When he's ready, the Cuban outfielder will be a bench option for the Royals most nights and will mainly be useful in deeper fantasy leagues for his speed -- he stole a combined 55 bases in 2023 and 2024.

Dairon Blanco Placed On 10-Day Injured List

Kansas City Royals outfielder Dairon Blanco (Achilles) was placed on the 10-day injured list due to right Achilles tendinopathy on Monday. The 31-year-old did not receive a start during their opening series against the Cleveland Guardians. Last season, Blanco appeared in just 88 contests but did provide value in category formats. During this stretch, the 31-year-old swiped an impressive 31 bags, which was the eighth-most in the AL. In the batter's box, he posted a .258/.308/.392 slash line with just four doubles and four long balls. Through the first three games of the 2025 season, Blanco already swiped two bags. In a corresponding move, the Royals promoted Tyler Tolbert from Triple-A Omaha. He is worth monitoring in deeper category formats given his elite speed upside.

Dairon Blanco To Play On Sunday

Kansas City Royals outfielder Dairon Blanco (Achilles) will be back in action on Sunday. The speedy outfielder has been sidelined lately due to Achilles tightness. The team will ease him back into action by letting him play three innings. The expectation is that Blanco will slowly progress into playing full games again and should be fine in time for Opening Day. Blanco slashed .258/.308/.392 with four home runs and 13 RBI across 88 games with the Royals last season. His best asset is his speed considering Blanco has stolen 55 bases over the last two seasons with KC.

Dairon Blanco Should See Game Action Soon

Kansas City Royals outfielder Dairon Blanco (Achilles) has resumed on-field baseball activities and should be able to get back into a spring game soon, although it will likely be a minor-league game first. Blanco was scratched from a Cactus League game at the end of February with an Achilles injury, but X-rays came back negative and he's nearing a return to game action at spring training. The 31-year-old veteran should have the time he needs to get ready for Opening Day in late March. Blanco is merely competing for a roster spot as a reserve outfielder in camp after slashing .258/.308/.392 with four home runs, 13 RBI, 31 stolen bases and 37 runs scored in 88 games in 2024. He has swiped 55 bases the last two years, giving him some appeal in AL-only and deep-mixed leagues, but Blanco has primarily served as a late-game defensive replacement and pinch-runner.

Dairon Blanco Undergoing MRI Exam

Kansas City Royals outfielder Dairon Blanco (Achilles) had an X-ray on Monday that showed nothing concerning regarding his right-Achilles soreness, but he is getting an MRI exam on Tuesday as a precaution. The 31-year-old was scratched from Monday's Cactus League lineup against the Athletics and should be considered day-to-day for now in camp. When healthy, Blanco will likely be a reserve outfielder for the Royals' big-league squad in 2025. The Cuban outfielder played in a career-high 88 games for the Royals in his third major-league season in 2024 and hit .258/.308/.392 with a below-average .699 OPS, only four home runs, 13 RBI, 31 stolen bases and 37 runs scored in 132 plate appearances. Most of his success has come against left-handed pitching, but he can be useful for his speed in deeper fantasy leagues as a pinch-runner/defensive replacement late in games.
