Daniel Vogelbach News
The New York Mets are planning to pick up first baseman Daniel Vogelbach's $1.5 million team option for the 2023 season, as expected. Vogelbach began the 2022 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates but spent the second half with the Mets after being traded, hitting .255/.393/.436 with an .830 OPS, six home runs, 25 RBI and 18 runs scored in 183 plate appearances. Overall in 130 games this year, the 29-year-old left-handed slugger slashed .238/.360/.433 with 18 long balls, 59 RBI and 47 runs scored. Vogelbach won't be a regular starter at first base with Pete Alonso the regular there, but he'll be a power bat off the bench for the Mets and an option for the designated hitter spot against right-handed pitching.
New York Mets first baseman Daniel Vogelbach will join the starting lineup for Sunday's Game 3 against the San Diego Padres. The 29-year-old sat out Game 2, but is in the lineup for this elimination contest. He'll serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh versus right-hander Joe Musgrove. The Mets will opt for some left-handed power here as Vogelbach crushes right-handed pitching. He's never going to hit for a strong average or draw many walks, but the Mets are looking to add some power in this do-or-die game.
New York Mets designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach isn't in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Atlanta Braves. The slugger struggles against lefties, and Atlanta is deploying southpaw Max Fried for the series finale. Pete Alonso will start in his place. Vogelbach is slashing .270/.379/.535 with 15 homers, 39 RBI, 41 walks, and 66 strikeouts against right-handers in 2022. Presumably, he'll be available off the bench if Atlanta goes to a right-hander out of its bullpen.
