Danny Santana Hit With PED Suspension

Free-agent infielder/outfielder Danny Santana has been suspended by Major League Baseball for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, according to Britt Ghiroli. The ban will last 80 games. Santana had yet to sign with a club before the announcement after spending last season with the Boston Red Sox. In 38 games during 2021, the 31-year-old slashed .181/.252/.345 with five home runs and four stolen bases. Most of Santana's success came in 2019, when he hit .283 with an .857 OPS along with 21 steals over 130 games with the Texas Rangers. He was already being ignored in drafts, and this news further cements his irrelevance in fantasy baseball.

Danny Santana Tests Positive For COVID-19

Boston Red Sox outfielder Danny Santana tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday evening. He'll land on the injured list while infielder Jack Lopez is selected from Triple-A. Santana represents the latest in a long list of positive coronavirus tests for the Red Sox, who have battled this outbreak and its many breakthrough cases for more than two weeks. The 30-year-old is now headed for his third IL stint in the last two months. Through 38 games this year, he is slashing .181/.252/.345 with five homers, 14 RBI, 10 walks, and 30 strikeouts.

Danny Santana Swipes A Bag Wednesday

Boston Red Sox utility man Danny Santana stole his fourth base of the season against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday. He also went 1-for-3 at the plate. Santana has continued to find playing time for manager Alex Cora, and he has plenty of potential in the power and speed categories, but with just a .600 OPS in 112 at-bats, there's too much of a floor to consider him on fantasy rosters, especially when his playing time stands to dry up once the COVID issues on Boston's roster resolve.

Danny Santana Homers Off Bench Against Rays

Boston Red Sox utility man Danny Santana hit his fifth home run of the year Tuesday, going 1-for-2 with the solo shot after coming off the bench in a blowout loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Santana doesn't stand to see much playing time going forward, and even his power-speed potential doesn't make him a viable fantasy play. He and his .599 OPS in 109 at-bats belong on the waiver wire.

Kike Hernandez, Danny Santana Should Be Back Tuesday

The Boston Red Sox might get some needed reinforcements on Tuesday, as manager Alex Cora said he expects second baseman/outfielder Kike Hernandezand infielder/outfielder Danny Santanato both return to the club. The Red Sox have been ravished recently by a virus outbreak that has sidelined nine players thus far, including Hernandez and Santana. The former is having a solid year at the plate, slashing .258/.346/.465 with 17 home runs over 112 games. Santana, on the other hand, hasn't had as much luck this season, hitting just .168 with four home runs and three stolen bases over 35 games.

Danny Santana Hits COVID List

Boston Red Sox infielder/outfielder Danny Santana has been placed on the COVID injured list. He recently returned from a groin injury and will head right back to the injured list. He wasn't bringing much to the table offensively anyway, so the Red Sox should be able to survive without Santana. In a corresponding move, outfielder Franchy Cordero has been recalled to take over the active roster spot. Cordero was hitting well in the minors, but hasn't been able to put it together at the major league level.

Danny Santana Heading Back To Injured List

The Boston Red Sox placed infielder/outfielder Danny Santana (groin) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday with a groin strain and recalled outfielder Franchy Cordero from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. Santana just recently returned from the injured list with a lower-body injury, and now he'll go right back on the shelf. The 30-year-old has only had 105 at-bats on the season and is hitting a weak .171/.230/.324 with four home runs, 13 RBI and three steals as a super-utility bench option for the Red Sox. With another potential lengthy absence ahead, Santana can be left to the waiver wire. Cordero was swinging the bat well at Worcester and has an intriguing power-speed profile, but it remains to be seen if he'll see enough at-bats in Boston to be of use to fantasy managers in deeper leagues.

Danny Santana Exits Wednesday’s Game Early

Boston Red Sox infielder Danny Santana (groin) was removed from Wednesday's game with left groin tightness. He fell hard while diving for a ball in left field. The 30-year-old went 0-for-4 before exiting. Santana was activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday after dealing with a left quad strain. The severity of his groin injury is unknown at this time and the utility infielder is currently day-to-day. He is slashing .171/.230/.324 with four homers, 13 RBI, 11 runs scored, and three stolen bases across 33 games in 2021. Santana sees semi-regular at-bats but is only worth rostering in AL-only leagues after posting an abysmal .252 WOBA and a 53 WRC+ this season.

Danny Santana Homers In Return From IL

Boston Red Sox utility man Danny Santana batted eighth and played first base in his return from the injured list Monday, and he delivered a solo home run off Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Trevor Richards. It was his fourth long ball of the season. Santana seems primed to start semi-regularly at first base against left-handed pitching, but he doesn't warrant fantasy relevance in anything but the deepest of leagues, as he's produced just a .575 OPS in 101 at-bats this season.

Danny Santana Expected To Be Activated On Monday

Boston Red Sox outfielder Danny Santana (quad) is expected to be activated off the 10-day injured list on Monday. The 30-year-old utility player has not done much with the bat over the course of the 2021 campaign. He's hitting .167/.231/.292 with three homers, 10 RBI and a 25/7 K/BB ratio. He'll be a nice depth piece for the Red Sox bench, but won't bring more to the table. Fantasy managers can continue to avoid Santana, even in AL-only leagues there should be better options than Santana.
