David Holmberg Fantasy Stats

Chicago White Sox manager Rick Renteria said that pitcher David Holmberg is the tentative starter for Tuesday against the Cleveland Indians. Holmberg, a southpaw, sports a 3.55 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and unattractive 5.0 K/9 in 33 appearances (six starts) this season. As a starter, he's allowed 11 earned runs in 25 2/3 frames and surrendered four homers. Against the American League Central leaders, Holmberg should be avoided for fantasy purposes.

Chicago White Sox pitcher David Holmberg threw just seven pitches on Thursday night in Chicago against the Astros. Holmberg entered the game with two outs in the top of the eleventh inning and gave up a single to Carlos Beltran, but got catcher Juan Centeno to ground out. Teammate Yoan Moncada hit a walk off single in the bottom of the inning to give Holmberg the win. The reward for the win? Holmberg was optioned to Triple-A on Friday as the White Sox call up starter Reynaldo Lopez.

The Chicago White Sox have tapped 25-year-old pitcher David Holmberg to start on Monday against the Red Sox. Holmberg has a 1.76 ERA through 15 1/3 minor league innings this season and an ERA of 0.87 in 10 1/3 innings out of the White Sox's bullpen, so he's fared well so far this season across both levels. However, there seems to be little reason for fantasy owners to take a chance on Holmberg, as he's got an ugly career 7.72 FIP in 72 1/3 big league innings, and the Red Sox have won six of their last seven. He's likely only getting a spot start or two until James Shields is ready to come back, so there's really nothing to see here from a fantasy perspective.
