The Milwaukee Brewers made a deal on Monday night, acquiring outfielder Derek Fisher from the Toronto Blue Jays. The Brewers agreed to send a player to be named and cash to Toronto to complete the swap. The Jays had designated Fisher for assignment last Thursday to clear a 40-man roster spot for former Brewers reliever David Phelps. Fisher ranked as high as No. 4 on MLB Pipeline's list of Houston's top prospects before his 2017 promotion. He slashed .279/.374/.486 with 111 stolen bases in 505 games across six minor league seasons. Fisher may have trouble finding consistent at-bats to begin the season, as he joins a group of outfielders who will vie for at-bats behind projected Brewers starters Christian Yelich, Lorenzo Cain and Avisail Garcia. He's only worth a look in very deep dynasty leagues.
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Derek Fisher left Thursday's game early versus the Nationals after experiencing quad tightness in his left leg. He was 0-for-1 in the contest before getting lifted in the third inning and was replaced by Joe Panik. Fisher has received generous playing time since Randal Grichuk has been out of the lineup, and has somewhat capitalized going 3-for-11 with a double and a triple this week. It's unknown whether he'll require an IL stint, but with the postponement of their games this weekend, he'll have several days off to heal.
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Derek Fisher (quad) left Thursdays contest early with left quad tightness. Fisher was replaced by second baseman Joe Panik in the lineup. Fisher was once a prized prospect for the Houston Astros, but he has struggled in limited action at the big league level. Fisher only has three starts under his belt this season with the Blue Jays and when healthy can be left on the waiver wire. There is currently no timetable for his return.
The Houston Astros optioned outfielder Derek Fisher to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday and recalled pitcher Rogelio Armenteros from Round Rock in a corresponding move. Fisher often hit out of the leadoff spot with George Springer (hamstring) on the injured list but was just 1-for-11 with four strikeouts during the current homestand. With prospect Yordan Alvarez also in town now, Fisher wasn't going to be playing much. Armenteros had a 5.00 ERA in 49 innings for Round Rock and will serve in a relief role for a taxed bullpen. He has not fantasy value.
Houston Astros outfielder Derek Fisher will hit leadoff Saturday against the Orioles. Fisher has seen extended playing time recently with George Springer on the IL with a hamstring injury. But Fisher has failed to make a lasting impact, slashing only .231/.333/.308 over his last six games. Springer's return does not appear to be that far away and Fisher's playing time is bound to be reduced in the near future. Fisher is not fantasy viable at this time.
Derek Fisher Leading Off, Tony Kemp At Second Base
Houston Astros outfielder Derek Fisher is leading off and playing left field on Wednesday against Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks. Tony Kemp is at the keystone and is hitting eighth, with Alex Bregman manning shortstop and Yuli Gurriel playing third base. Fisher is one of the more underrated Astros prospects but has four hits in 12 at-bats so far this year and is in play as a deep DFS sleeper in the leadoff spot. With both Carlos Correa (rib) and Jose Altuve (hamstring, knee) on the injured list, Houston will have to get creative up the middle. Expect the team to mix and match with Bregman, Kemp, Jack Mayfield and Myles Straw up the middle in the coming days and weeks until Altuve returns.
The Houston Astros have recalled right fielder Derek Fisher from Triple-A Round Rock. He replaces outfielder George Springer, who is expected to be placed on the injured list after leaving Friday's game with a hamstring injury, on the active roster. Fisher was really raking it with the Express to the tune of .314/.379/.555 with eight home runs and six steals in 154 plate appearances. This will be the 25-year-old's second stint with the big league club this year as he spent two days with the team earlier in the month, going 0-for-1 at the plate in two appearances. He is expected to compete with Michael Brantley, Josh Reddick, Jake Marisnick and Tony Kemp for at-bats. While Fisher has yet to get on track at the major league level in three years -- hitting just .195 with a 37.9 percent strikeout rate -- his combination of power and speed could be useful for fantasy owners in deeper leagues depending on the amount of playing time he receives.
The Houston Astros optioned outfield prospect Derek Fisher to Triple-A Fresno after the game on Thursday in anticipation of outfielder George Springer (thumb) coming off the disabled list. Fisher has a promising future in the long term, but he's the odd man out in a crowded Houston outfield with Springer set to return. The left-handed slugger also had just 13 hits in his first 78 at-bats (.167) with four homers and 11 RBI. He'll be back when rosters expand next month, but he's really just a dynasty league stash for now.
The Houston Astros placed outfielder Derek Fisher(stomach) on the 10-day disabled list with gastrointestinal discomfort. According to manager AJ Hinch, Fisher had not been able to eat properly and was losing weight. The move is retroactive to May 19. Over 36 games, Fisher has hit just .176 with a .419 slugging percentage. In the interim, the Astros have called up J.D. Davis. The third-round pick has hit .415 in the Pacific Coast League at Triple-A Fresno. Fisher has struggled enough that Davis could play his way into a full-time job, at least until prospectKyle Tucker arrives.
Derek Fisher Might Be A Sneaky Start With Juicy Matchup
Houston Astros outfielder Derek Fisher is in the lineup Sunday against lefty Matt Moore. Fisher hasn't seen a lot of success in the early going of 2018, but the matchup against Moore suggests he could see some Sunday. Though it is a very small sample size, Fisher is 3-for-8 against left-handed pitching this season but is slugging 1.000 against them. On the other side, Moore has given up a slash line of .417/.462/.750 against left-handed hitters this season and has an ERA of 14.00 in day games. If there is ever a time to put your trust in Fisher, Sunday is that day.
