Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Domingo Leyba showed off some pop at the plate on Wednesday, as he went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and two runs scored in the win over Cleveland. Leyba missed all of 2020 due to an 80-game suspension after testing positive for boldenone, and is in camp now as a non-roster invite. He has shown 10 to 15 home run potential in the minors while hitting for a high average, but there are several guys in line ahead of him for playing time in Arizona. Managers shouldn't consider Leyba outside of dynasty formats for now, but he could be an interesting waiver-wire pick up if someone goes down with an injury later in the year.
Arizona Diamondbacks infield prospect Domingo Leyba received an 80-game suspension on Friday after testing positive for Boldenone, which is in violation of the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. Leyba is ranked as the team's No. 30 prospect and has the skills to become a solid utility player for the Snakes at the major league level, but he'll miss half the season in 2020. The 24-year-old made his big league debut in Arizona last year and hit .280/.367/.440 with no homers and five RBI in just 25 at-bats. That was after he hit a cool .300 with 19 homers and 77 RBI in 112 games for Triple-A Reno. He can be ignored for fantasy purposes for now.
On Saturday, the Arizona Diamondbacks called up shortstop Domingo Leyba. The move came a day after the team sent first baseman Kevin Cron to Triple-A. Leyba has a slash line of .289/.343/.515 with 10 home runs, 49 runs and 41 RBI in 66 games at Triple-A this year. In addition to shortstop, Leyba also plays second base, but neither position appears to be one of weakness for the Diamondbacks right now. Ketel Marte has had a monster year and is the team's primary second baseman, while Nick Ahmed has had a solid year at shortstop for the team. Cron is the more intriguing prospect so it's bad news for fantasy owners that he's back in the minors. Leyba, meanwhile, can be left on waivers.
