Mariners
The Seattle Mariners optioned right-hander Drew Steckenrider to Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday, according to president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto. Steckenrider has been in the mix in Seattle's save committee this year. The 31-year-old reliever has two saves and four holds, but he's also blown two saves and has a 5.65 ERA in 14 1/3 innings so far for Seattle. He had 14 saves and seven holds while producing a nice 2.00 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 62 games for the M's last year, but Steckenrider has been too unreliable in 2022. In the meantime, the Mariners will roll with Paul Sewald, Diego Castillo and Andres Munoz in their closer-by-committee setup.

Drew Steckenrider On Restricted List, Roenis Elias Called Up
The Seattle Mariners placed right-hander Drew Steckenrider on the restricted list on Monday and selected left-hander Roenis Elias' contract from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move. The 31-year-old Steckenrider probably isn't vaccinated, so he won't make the trip for the team's series in Toronto this week. Steckenrider does have two saves in 13 innings pitched for the M's this year as part of a committee approach to the ninth inning, but he also has allowed seven earned runs and was pulled from a save situation on Sunday after allowing two runs. Diego Castillo, Paul Sewald and Andres Munoz could see save chances with Steckenrider out this week. Elias missed each of the last two seasons due to an elbow injury, and he could be sent right back to the minors when Steckenrider returns later this week.

Drew Steckenrider Notches First Save
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Drew Steckenrider notched his first save of the season on Friday against the Minnesota Twins. Paul Sewald came in and pitched the eighth inning before handing the ball over to Steckenrider. Sewald retired all the batters he faced before exiting the game. Steckenrider made things interesting by allowing a leadoff single, however he managed to protect the one-run lead and help the Mariners get the victory. It sounds like Steckenrider will be a valuable member of the Mariners bullpen this season.

Drew Steckenrider Saves 14th Game Saturday
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Drew Steckenrider came through in a big spot Saturday, allowing only a double to David Fletcher in his one inning of work against the Los Angeles Angels to secure a 6-4 victory and his 14th save of the season. He's now saved three games in the last five days and appears to have solidified his grasp on the closer role. He has not been scored upon in any of his last six outings, and his 2.03 ERA and 1.02 WHIP have been well worth the roster spot for fantasy managers who invested in the little-known reliever.

Drew Steckenrider Saves Game For Second Straight Day
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Drew Steckenrider saved a game for the second consecutive day Wednesday, bringing his season total to 13. He's now a perfect 6-for-6 in the month of September. Steckenrider allowed one hit in an inning of work against the Oakland Athletics to eliminate them from playoff contention. It's a split job with Paul Sewald, and it seems to be day by day who will set up and who will close. Both are worth rostering for the red-hot Mariners.

Drew Steckenrider Saves 12th Game Tuesday
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Drew Steckenrider saved his 12th game of the season Tuesday, locking down a 4-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics in an inning of work. He struck out two batters and allowed one hit. It continues to be a shared closer job with Paul Sewald, and in this contest Sewald pitched the eighth inning. Manager Scott Servais continues to play the matchups with the back end of his bullpen, so both Steckenrider and Sewald have most value in leagues that reward both saves and holds. Steckenrider has a 2.09 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and 57 strikeouts in 64 2/3 innings.

Drew Steckenrider Records Four-Out Hold Friday
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Drew Steckenrider recorded a four-out hold against the Los Angeles Angels Friday, his seventh of the season. He allowed one hit and struck out none. Fellow relief pitcher Paul Sewald came on after Steckenrider to close the game and earn the save. Steckenrider has recorded nine saves in his last 30 games, and there's clearly a shared situation at the back of the Seattle bullpen, but Friday's arrangement would suggest that Sewald holds the slight edge. Both are worth rostering the rest of the way as Seattle chases a playoff spot.

Drew Steckenrider Saves 11th Game
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Drew Steckenrider saved his 11th game of the season Wednesday, throwing a scoreless inning with one hit allowed and one strikeout against the Oakland Athletics. Steckenrider was filling in for Paul Sewald, who had thrown in three straight games, but Steckenrider now has the upper hand in total saves. There's no locked-in option here, but Steckenrider may be able to help a desperate fantasy manager over the past few weeks. He has excellent ratios with a 2.17 ERA and 1.03 WHIP.

Drew Steckenrider Converts Save Chance Tuesday
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Drew Steckenrider was back on the mound in the ninth inning against the Oakland Athletics Tuesday, and he allowed one hit in an inning of work to convert his 10th save of the season. It was a solid bounce-back outing for Steckenrider, who had allowed runs in back-to-back outings for the first time this season in his previous two appearances. Steckenrider is primarily the set-up man to Paul Sewald, but with a 2.20 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and a manager who's willing to mix and match in the back of the bullpen, Steckenrider has more value than most non-closers.

Drew Steckenrider Follows Paul Sewald For Ninth Save
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Drew Steckenrider pitched the ninth inning against the Boston Red Sox on Monday after Paul Sewald threw an ineffective eighth and earned his ninth save of the season by striking out two without allowing a baserunner. Steckenrider now has nine saves on the year, with eight in his last 30 games. He has out-saved Sewald three to one in their past seven games each. Fantasy managers should keep a close eye on this situation, and Steckenrider now holds standalone value, regardless of if roles change.
