The Tampa Bay Rays recalled right-hander Erasmo Ramirez from Triple-A Durham on Monday and optioned left-hander Jacob Lopez to Durham in a corresponding move. This will be Ramirez's second stint in the big leagues for the Rays this year, but he hasn't pitched for the Rays since May 21. The 34-year-old veteran Nicaraguan went 3-0 earlier this season with a 4.50 ERA (6.61 FIP), a 1.06 WHIP, one save, six walks and nine strikeouts in 16 innings pitched. Ramirez has been fortunate to pick up three wins and will likely occupy a middle-relief role for however long he's in the big leagues this time around. The 13-year-old veteran doesn't have any fantasy appeal and has a career 18% strikeout rate and 6.3% walk rate in 844 1/3 innings at the big-league level.
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Erasmo Ramirez relieved relief pitcher Jason Adam with two outs in the ninth inning to record his first save of the season in Thursday's victory against the Boston Red Sox. Closer Pete Fairbanks seemed to have the night off and Adam got himself in trouble with two runners on base when Ramirez entered the ballgame. Ramirez has allowed seven runs in the 13 innings he has thrown this year and can be avoided in all formats with Fairbanks and Adam in line to receive most of the Rays save chances moving forward.
The Tampa Bay Rays selected the contract of right-hander Erasmo Ramirez from Triple-A Durham on Saturday and optioned left-hander Jacob Lopez to Durham in a corresponding move. The Rays also moved infielder Taylor Walls (hip) to the 60-day injured list. Ramirez will join Tampa's bullpen for the first time in 2024 after giving up two earned runs while striking out 13 in 8 1/3 innings pitched for the Bulls on the farm. The 33-year-old is unlikely to be a fantasy asset after posting a 6.41 ERA (5.05 FIP) and 1.57 WHIP with 13 walks and 43 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings over 38 appearances (two starts) for the Rays and Washington Nationals. Ramirez has only struck out 6.8 batters per nine innings in his 12-year MLB career.
The Tampa Bay Rays re-signed right-hander Erasmo Ramirez to a minor-league deal earlier this week. Ramirez will return to Tampa after he was outrighted off the 40-man roster following the conclusion of the 2023 season. The 33-year-old veteran swing man from Nicaragua appeared in 38 games (two starts) for the Rays and Washington Nationals last season, going 3-3 with a bloated 6.41 ERA (5.05 FIP) and 1.57 WHIP with 13 walks and 43 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings pitched. The 12-year veteran hurler will give the Rays some extra pitching depth entering spring training and the regular season next year, but he won't be anywhere near the fantasy radar.
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Erasmo Ramirez will make the start on Friday against the Los Angeles Angels. This will be just Ramirez's second start of the season, and he last appeared on Aug. 15, although it was only in one inning of relief. Still, the 33-year-old shouldn't be expected to go for more than a handful of innings, making him a poor streaming option in fantasy. In 28 appearances for the Rays and Washington Nationals in 2023, Ramirez has posted a 5.72 ERA (4.28 FIP), 1.58 WHIP, seven walks and only 21 strikeouts over his 39 1/3 innings pitched. In his 12 seasons in the big leagues, Ramirez only has a 6.8 K/9 over 807 1/3 innings.
The Washington Nationals released right-hander Erasmo Ramirez on Thursday. The Nationals had designated Ramirez for assignment the day prior, and now he's free to sign with any team he pleases. The 33-year-old veteran made 23 appearances out of the bullpen in D.C. this year, posting an ugly 6.33 ERA (5.25 FIP), 1.56 WHIP, six walks and 13 strikeouts in 27 innings pitched. The soft-tossing hurler (6.8 career K/9) could latch on with another organization, but he's well off the fantasy radar and may not work his way back to the big leagues again in 2023. Ramirez has a 4.28 career ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 795 major-league innings over 12 seasons.
The Washington Nationals re-signed right-hander Erasmo Ramirez to a one-year deal on Thursday that can reach up to $2 million with incentives. Ramirez will return to D.C. after posting a strong 2.92 ERA (4.05 FIP), a 1.08 WHIP, 61 strikeouts and 14 walks in 86 1/3 innings over 60 appearances (two starts). There's a chance that Ramirez is a candidate to make some starts for Washington next year, but it's more likely that the 32-year-old veteran will continue in a long-relief role for the team next year, limiting his fantasy appeal. In 11 years at the major-league level, Ramirez has posted a 4.21 ERA (4.50 FIP), a 1.22 WHIP, an 18.3 percent strikeout rate and a 6.4 percent walk rate with four saves in 768 frames over 276 outings (94 starts).
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Erasmo Ramirez is likely to be removed from the 40-man roster in the coming days, according to a source. It could come via a trade, a waiver claim or straight up being outrighted off the roster. Ramirez has enough MLB service time to refuse a minor league assignment, which would make him a free agent. The 28-year-old right-hander had a bad year in 2018, dealing with injuries and only throwing 45 2/3 innings over 10 starts. When he was on the mound he was bad, going 2-4 with a 6.50 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and weak 6.5 K/9. Ramirez isn't a strikeout guy, but he can be useful as a swingman when healthy. He's mostly a streaming option in single-universe leagues.
Erasmo Ramirez Looks For Third Straight Strong Start
Seattle Mariners starter Erasmo Ramirez will look to make it three strong starts in a row when he takes the mound against the Diamondbacks. Ramirez rejoined the rotation on August 12 and has allowed only one run through 10 innings during his first two starts with six strikeouts. Ramirez started 11 games last season for the Mariners and went 1-3 with a 3.92 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP after being acquired by the Rays. The Diamondbacks feature a potent offense and the Mariners are hoping Ramirez can keep their playoff hopes alive for another week. Ramirez will need a few more quality outings before becoming fantasy viable.
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Erasmo Ramirez (shoulder) will be activated from the disabled list and start on Sunday against the Astros. Ramirez is taking the rotation spot of Felix Hernandez, who was demoted to the bullpen for the first time in his career. The soft-tossing right-hander hasn't made a start since April 27, so it'd be unrealistic to expect much from him immediately, especially against the first-place Astros. Ramirez also had allowed 11 earned runs over 9 2/3 innings in his two starts this year. He can be a useful streamer in deeper leagues, depending on the matchup. Avoid him Sunday.
