Eric Haase News
Detroit Tigers catcher Eric Haase isn't in the starting lineup on Monday for a matchup with the Boston Red Sox and right-hander Michael Wacha. Haase has appeared in all three of the Tigers' games so far this season, logging seven plate appearances. He's drawn a pair of walks and connected on a home run. Instead, it'll be Tucker Barnhart starting behind the dish and batting eighth against Wacha. The veteran hit .247 with a .317 on-base percentage and seven home runs in 388 plate appearances for the Cincinnati Reds last season. You're probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming options at catcher.
Detroit Tigers catcher/outfielder Eric Haase will get his first start of the season Saturday against the Chicago White Sox, catching and batting seventh, according to MLB.com. The 29-year-old was a pleasant surprise last season when he slashed .231/.286/.459 with 22 HRs over 98 games. During yesterday's Opening Day, Haase was used as a pinch-hitter and later slugged a ninth-inning home run off Liam Hendriks to tie the game. With the Tigers deploying three catchers in the early stages of the season, it'll be harder for Haase to get into the lineup, but his ability to play the outfield will help. With Dylan Cease going for the White Sox, it isn't the best opportunity for fantasy managers to stream the backstop, who struggled against right-handers last season, producing just a .661 OPS. There are better options elsewhere.
Detroit Tigers catcher/outfielder Eric Haase is absent from Thursday's lineup for the matchup against the Minnesota Twins, according to MLB.com. Haase has been one of the better power-hitting catchers this season with 22 HRs and a .230/.285/.463 slash line over 95 games. He's been in a rut recently, though, posting a .604 OPS in September. Dustin Garneau will catch and bat eighth instead. Garneau has shown some pop since joining the Tigers in mid-August, with six home runs and a .885 OPS in 18 games. He might be worth taking a chance on as a streaming option in deeper leagues.
