Fernando Romero Recalled

The Minnesota Twins recalled relief pitcher Fernando Romero on Thursday, optioning reliever Ryan Eades to Triple-A. In 2018, Romero started all 11 games he appeared in, posting a 4.69 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 55 2/3 innings. This season, he appeared in relief seven times, allowing five runs in eight innings. Triple-A didn't go much better with a 5.47 ERA in 24 2/3 innings. If Romero were to return to the starting rotation he could have deeper league streaming potential, but as a reliever he's easy waiver fodder.

Fernando Romero to Start for Twins on Sunday

Minnesota Twins pitcher Fernando Romero will be recalled from Triple-A on Sunday and will start for Aaron Slegers who is being placed on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. Romero has pitched to a 3-3 record with a 4.38 ERA and a 44/19 K/BB ratio in 10 starts at the major league level in 2018. It's likely that Romero is demoted following the game, however he will face a Rays team that just saw Wilson Ramos suffer an injury. Romero could be a low-owned streamer to target in DFS on Sunday.

Alan Busenitz Called Up, Fernando Romero Optioned To Triple-A

Minnesota Twins right-handed pitcher Alan Busenitz was called up on Sunday. Busenitz sported a sterling 1.27 ERA during his time at Triple-A Rochester to go along with a fantastic 32/5 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 28 1/3 innings. His promotion was announced in conjunction with starting pitcher Fernando Romeros demotion to Rochester. Romero has struggled on his way to a 4.38 ERA this season, but it still came as somewhat a surprise that he was sent down. The Twins have to hope that the rookie will regain some confidence down in the minors. All said, Busenitz value as a middle reliever especially in the Twins much-maligned bullpen makes him an intriguing option in mixed leagues.

Fernando Romero Picks Up Third Win

Minnesota Twins right-hander Fernando Romero picked up his third win of the season on Sunday as he held the Los Angeles Angels to two earned runs in five innings of work. Romero struck out five and walked two in the ballgame. The win improves Romero's record to 3-2 with a 3.92 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and 39 strikeouts in 41 1/3 innings of work. Romero has cooled off slightly since he made his MLB debut on May 2 but he's still shaping up as a solid fantasy contributor. He'll look to keep it up in his next start which will come against the Cleveland Indians.

Fernando Romero Bounces Back Tuesday

Minnesota Twins right-hander Fernando Romero bounced back from the worst start of his MLB career on Tuesday, holding the Chicago White Sox to two runs over six innings. This came a game after the rookie allowed the Kansas City Royals to score eight earned runs in just 1 2/3 innings. Romero has been most impressive in his rookie campaign, posting a 2-2 record, 3.96 ERA, and 34 strikeouts in 36 1/3 innings of work. He will look to keep it up against the Los Angeles Angels in his next start.

Fernando Romero Lit Up By Royals Wednesday

Minnesota Twins right-hander Fernando Romero saw his streak of solid starts come to an end on Wednesday. The Kansas City Royals battered Romero for eight runs off nine hits in just 1 2/3 innings, sending him to his second loss of the season. The rookie managed just one strikeout and walked one batter in the outing, which goes down as the shortest of his young career. Romero now has a 2-2 record, 4.15 ERA, and 30 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings of work this season. Despite the poor outing, Romero has plenty of strikeout upside in his arm and, as such, his fantasy owners should remain patient with him.

Fernando Romero Takes Tough-Luck Loss

Minnesota Twins rookie right-hander Fernando Romero allowed just two runs over seven innings in his Friday start against the Seattle Mariners, but he was hung with his first career loss. Romero allowed just five hits while striking out seven in the game, but his offense only scored one run behind him. Romero has been impressive over his first five MLB starts, posting a 2-1 record, 1.88 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings. He has turned into a solid fantasy option going forward.

Fernando Romero Allows Three Earned Runs

Minnesota Twins right-hander Fernando Romero turned in the worst start of his young career against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday. Romero allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks in five innings of work. Despite the mediocre start, Romero has still been solid in his rookie season, posting a 2-0 record, 1.66 ERA, and 22 strikeouts in 21 1/3 innings pitched. He is still walking too many batters (4.57 per nine innings) but he should remain a decent source of strikeouts in AL-only and deeper mixed formats. He is scheduled to take on the Seattle Mariners in his next start.

Fernando Romero Takes No-Decision Sunday

Minnesota Twins right-hander Fernando Romero turned in another solid start for his team on Sunday, holding the Los Angeles Angels to one run in five innings of work. Romero struck out six and walked three in the game, but had to settle for a no-decision as he lost a 2-1 pitcher's duel to Angels starter Shohei Otani. Romero, a rookie, has made three starts for the Twins now, posting an impressive 2-0 record, 0.54 ERA, and 20 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings of work. He will look to keep it going in his next start, which will comes against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fernando Romero Impresses In Second Start

Minnesota Twins rookie right-hander Fernando Romero impressed again in his second career start, this time against the St. Louis Cardinals. The 23-year-old pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out nine. Despite the results, it wasn't a perfect outing as Romero struggled with his control, throwing just 57 of 97 pitches for strikes. Romero has been extremely effective in his first two big league starts, pitching 11 2/3 scoreless innings while racking up 14 strikeouts and walking six batters. One of the Twins' top pitching prospects, Romero is a solid add in any league where you have room to add an extra starting pitcher, although his control issues could eventually start to impact him on the mound if he doesn't get them straightened out.
