Rockies Sign Grayson Greiner To Minor League Deal Tuesday

The Colorado Rockies signed catcher Grayson Greiner to their Triple-A Albuquerque team Tuesday, per MLB.com's Thomas Harding. This move comes as Willie MacIver (shoulder), the projected Triple-A catcher, is now out 6-8 weeks after receiving an injection for his right shoulder. Greiner played mostly with the Diamondbacks' Triple-A Reno in 2022, slashing .232/.318/.391 with six home runs and 20 RBI in 170 plate appearances.

Grayson Greiner Suffers Setback During Rehab Assignment

Detroit Tigers catcher Grayson Greiner (hamstring) has put his rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on hold. Manager A.J. Hinch is not calling it a setback, but the 29-year-old catcher continues to deal with a lingering hamstring issue. He wasn't exactly crushing the ball before landing on the injured list. It sounds like the Tigers are going to be cautious here, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect Greiner back anytime soon. Eric Hasse and Jake Rogers have played well as a catching duo. They could be interesting deep league options until Greiner is cleared to play again.

Grayson Greiner Likely Headed To The Injured List

Detroit Tigers catcher Grayson Greiner (hamstring) was forced to exit Tuesday's game against the Kansas City Royals due to a left hamstring strain. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch stated that he doesn't believe the injury is anything serious, but he does expect to see Greiner land on the injured list. The team is already without starting catcher Wilson Ramos (back), who landed on the 10-day injured list this past Friday. Assuming Greiner is indeed IL-bound, recent call-up Jake Rogers would likely become the team's primary catcher for at least a little while.

Grayson Greiner Exits Tuesday With Hamstring Strain

Detroit Tigers catcher Grayson Greiner (hamstring) exited Tuesday's game early with a left hamstring strain, according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. Greiner had gone 1-for-2 with an RBI before he was pinch-hit for by Jake Rogers in the bottom of the fifth inning. There's no word on how long Greiner will be kept out of the lineup, but if it's for more than a day or two, it's possible he could face an IL stint, as Rogers would be the only active catcher on the team's roster with Wilson Ramos already on the 10-day injured list with a lumbar spine strain. Over 14 games this year, Greiner is slashing .222/.243/.333 with one home run, four RBI and a run scored.

Grayson Greiner Suffers Broken Nose

Detroit Tigers catcher Grayson Greiner (nose) was forced to leave Sunday's spring training game against the Toronto Blue Jays after being hit by a pitch in the face. On Monday, the Tigers reported that Greiner had suffered a broken nose. Luckily for Greiner, he won't need reconstruction and there was no damage to the orbital bone. He is expected to be sidelined for about a week. Last year, Greiner appeared in 18 games for the Tigers and slashed .118/.182/.333 with three home runs, eight RBI and eight runs. This year, he's in position to be the team's No. 2 catcher behind offseason signee Wilson Ramos.

Grayson Greiner Hit In Face By Pitch

Detroit Tigers catcher Grayson Greiner (face) was hit by a pitch in the face in the sixth inning of Sunday's game. He was immediately tended to by trainers, then left the field on his own power as he was lifted from the game. The pitch was thrown by Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Elvis Luciano. It was a fastball clocked at 94 mph. The Tigers are currently awaiting a medical report on Greiner, which should be revealed some time on Monday. Greiner is slated to be the team's backup catcher this year behind Wilson Ramos. Last year, Greiner played 18 games for the Tigers, slashing .118/.182/.333 with three home run, eight RBI and eight runs.

Grayson Greiner Hit In The Face

Detroit Tigers catcher Grayson Greiner left Sunday's game under his own power after being hit in the face by Elvis Luciano of the Toronto Blue Jays. With Wilson Ramos expected to start at catcher, Greiner is battling Jake Rogers and Dustin Garneau for playing time in 2021 so the club will hope that this is not a long-term injury that will impact the club's depth behind the plate. Greiner struggled with the bat last season and hit just .118 with a 36% strikeout rate in 18 games. However, he has some upside in the power department at 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds. Despite his contact issues in 2020, Greiner posted a massive 25-degree launch angle and 42% hard-hit-ball rate.

Austin Romine Scratched, Grayson Greiner Enters Lineup

Detroit Tigers catcher Austin Romine was scratched from Sundays lineup against Minnesota and right-hander Kenta Maeda due to a sore knee with Grayson Greiner taking over behind the dish in his place. Romine has been a solid DFS punt play behind the plate for most of the season due to his .291 average, while Greiner presents a much riskier play with a slash line of .115/.233/.308 coming into play Sunday. Romines next opportunity to rejoin the starting nine comes Tuesday against Milwaukee should the Tigers hang on to his services through the Trade Deadline.

Ryan Carpenter Demoted, Grayson Greiner Placed On Injured List

The Detroit Tigers optioned starting pitcher Ryan Carpenter to Triple-A Toledo after another unsuccessful start on Friday against the Indians. The team also placed catcher Grayson Greiner (back) on the 10-day injured list with a lower back strain. Carpenter gave up eight runs (six earned) while walking four and striking out only two in three innings against Cleveland and he's 1-4 with a rough 8.82 ERA while allowing 47 hits in 32 2/3 innings and walking 11 and fanning 21 in seven starts. He can be dropped everywhere. Greiner suffered his injury taking swings before the game. He was hitting .162 in 169 plate appearances and wasn't a fantasy option. Bobby Wilson will be called up from Toledo to serve as the backup to John Hicks.

Grayson Greiner Getting A Day Off Wednesday

Detroit Tigers catcher Grayson Greiner will not be behind the dish for Wednesday's contest against the Yankees. John Hicks will take his place. Greiner has appeared in five of six games thus far but has managed just three hits through his first 20 at-bats. Hicks hasn't fared much better, with two hits in 11 at-bats. This is a routine day of rest for Greiner, as he'll step in behind the plate on most days, but he should only be used in deep AL-only or two-catcher leagues.
