Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco was placed on outright waivers on Sunday. Despite that, he'll be starting in right field versus righty Will Crowe and the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday. It's unlikely that any team claims Polanco since he's hitting .199 with 11 home runs and 34 RBI this season. Regardless, a chance of scenery isn't going to give him enough upside to warrant rostering in fantasy formats. Fantasy managers can continue to ignore Polanco in fantasy leagues going forward.
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed outfielder Gregory Polanco on outright waivers Sunday, according to Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic. If he goes unclaimed, he can become a free agent if he doesn't want a minor league assignment. Polanco, who has spent eight seasons in the Pirates outfield, has never lived up to the hype that he once had with a career .240/.309/.408 slash line. It's been ugly 2020 season, as he's hit .198 with 11 HRs, 34 RBI, 36 runs, and 14 SBs. If he can latch onto another team, he has some deep-league significance with double-digit homers and steals but can be left on the waiver wire in most leagues.
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco went 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored in an 11-6 loss to the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night. It was his 10th homer of the year, as he's now slashing .202/.282/.373 with nine steals, 25 RBI and 25 runs scored over 74 games. While it is a slight increase in production from last year, Polanco's numbers are still a far cry from what he used to put up at the plate. He has heated up a bit at the plate over his last seven games, slashing .308/.471/.615 with one home run, one steal, two RBI and two runs scored. It's a good start, and if he can continue to swing the hot bat then he could become fantasy relevant once more, but for now he can be left on the waiver wire.
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco (hip) has been activated from the 10-day injured list and is in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Mets, according to Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. In a corresponding move, the Pirates have optioned infielder Rodolfo Castro to Double-A Altoona. Polanco has struggled at the plate this year, especially over his last 28 games where he is slashing .160/.247/.321 with four homers, four steals, nine RBI and eight runs scored. The bigger part of this transaction is the optioning of Castro, who had shown some promise over seven games where he was slashing .214/.313/.857 with three home runs, four RBI and four runs scored. Polanco's return likely cuts into the playing time of Wilmer Difo and Jared Oliva, but neither one of them were fantasy relevant to begin with.
Gregory Polanco, Phillip Evans Land On Injured List
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed outfielder Gregory Polanco (hip) on the 10-day injured list with right hip inflammation and first baseman/outfielder Phillip Evans (head) on the seven-day concussion injured list on Tuesday. Shortstop Cole Tucker was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and third baseman Rodolfo Castro was recalled from Double-A Altoona in corresponding moves. Along with injury, Polanco just hasn't been good in 2021 and isn't a must-hold in deep mixed leagues. With Colin Moran already on the injured list, Ben Gamel, who has been swinging a hot bat of late, has come into everyday playing time in Pittsburgh and is a short-term option in deep mixed/NL-only leagues. John Nogowski and Tucker could share some time at first base and in the outfield.
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco (hip) remains out of the starting lineup on Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers. It will be Polanco's fourth straight game on the sidelines as he deals with right hip inflammation. The left-handed hitter made an appearance as a pinch-hitter on Friday, so it doesn't seem like his injury is that serious. The 29-year-old does have nine home runs and eight stolen bases on the season, but he's also hitting just .195/.272/.359 in 220 at-bats and isn't a must-hold in deep mixed leagues. Jared Oliva receives his second straight start in right field on Saturday and will hit eighth against Brewers left-hander Eric Lauer. Oliva is hitless in his five big league at-bats this year and has three singles in 21 career plate appearances with the Pirates the last two years.
Pittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton said that outfielder Gregory Polanco (hip) has been battling some hip inflammation. It's not attributed to one specific instance but has built up over time. Polanco has been out of the lineup the last two games, and now we know why. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter had a really bad June (.150-4-9) and is now hitting just .195/.269/.359 with nine home runs, 23 runs scored, 23 RBI and eight stolen bases on the season in 239 plate appearances. Aside from some speed, it's getting harder and harder to justify hanging onto Polanco in deep mixed leagues. Ben Gamel has started the last two games in right field and hit his third long ball of the season on Thursday. If Polanco needs a stint on the injured list, Gamel would become a short-term option in NL-only leagues.
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 3-1 loss to the Cardinals on Saturday. He accounted for the only run of the day for Pittsburgh, as he now has eight homers in 63 games this season. Polanco has struggled at the plate all year long, as he is now slashing .201/.279/.359 and has seven steals to go along with his eight homers. He's only a viable option in deep, deep mixed leagues and deep NL-only formats.
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco is not in the starting lineup for Friday night's matchup with the Cardinals. It looks to just be a night off for Polanco, who has played in 29 of the team's last 33 games. He hasn't looked very good at the plate this year, as he's slashing .201/.273/.348 with seven homers, seven steals, 21 RBI and 21 runs scored over 61 games this season. His only value at this point is in NL-only formats or deep mixed leagues. While he sits out Friday, Phillip Evans is getting the start in right field and will bat fifth against the Cardinals.
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Gregory Polanco is out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game against lefty Alex Wood and the San Francisco Giants. The left-handed Polanco has gone 0-for-19 with 10 strikeouts and two walks against lefties this year, so it's no surprise to see him out of the lineup. He's slashed .260/.337/.442 over 86 at-bats against righties this year. Troy Stokes Jr. is starting in right field and batting eighth in Sunday's game.
