Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to a minor-league deal with former New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Phillip Evans on Friday. The deal includes an invitation to major-league spring training next year. Evans didn't play in the big leagues at all in 2022 but has four years of experience at the top level with a career .231/.331/.319 slash line with a .651 OPS, six home runs, 27 RBI, 34 runs scored and two stolen bases in 353 plate appearances over 121 games played. The 30-year-old spent all of last season toiling at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the New York Yankees organization, and he hit .244/.310/.366 with nine long balls, 33 RBI, 45 runs scored and two stolen bases in 103 contests. Evans will merely serve as organizational depth in Arizona.

Phillip Evans Signs Minor League Deal With Yankees
The New York Yankees signed free-agent third baseman Phillip Evans to a minor league deal on Tuesday. Evans spent the 2021 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, slashing .206/.312/.299 with five home runs and 16 RBI in 247 plate appearances over 76 games. The 29-year-old spent his first two big-league seasons with the New York Mets, and he has a career .231/.331/.319 slash line with only six home runs and 27 RBI in 353 plate appearances over 121 games in his four seasons. Evans will provide organizational depth at the hot corner in 2022.

Phillip Evans Returns From Injured List
The Pittsburgh Pirates activated infielder/outfielder Phillip Evans from the seven-day concussion list on Friday and optioned infielder Cole Tucker to Triple-A Indianapolis in a corresponding move. Evans was out since July 5 after suffering a concussion in a game against the Atlanta Braves. The 28-year-old was seeing regular playing time at first base before his injury with both Colin Moran and Erik Gonzalez on the injured list, but he isn't a lock to see regular at-bats upon his return as long as John Nogowski continues to swing a hot bat. Evans wouldn't be anything more than bench depth in NL-only leagues, though, with his .208/.310/.311 slash line and five homers and 15 RBI in 183 at-bats in 2021.

Gregory Polanco, Phillip Evans Land On Injured List
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed outfielder Gregory Polanco (hip) on the 10-day injured list with right hip inflammation and first baseman/outfielder Phillip Evans (head) on the seven-day concussion injured list on Tuesday. Shortstop Cole Tucker was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and third baseman Rodolfo Castro was recalled from Double-A Altoona in corresponding moves. Along with injury, Polanco just hasn't been good in 2021 and isn't a must-hold in deep mixed leagues. With Colin Moran already on the injured list, Ben Gamel, who has been swinging a hot bat of late, has come into everyday playing time in Pittsburgh and is a short-term option in deep mixed/NL-only leagues. John Nogowski and Tucker could share some time at first base and in the outfield.

Phillip Evans In The Concussion Protocol
Pittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton said that infielder/outfielder Phillip Evans (head) hit his head during the game on Monday and was put through the concussion protocol. Evans went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a strikeout in the ballgame and was removed in the ninth inning in a lopsided 11-1 win over the Atlanta Braves. It's unclear if he passed through the protocol, but there's a chance that Evans won't be in the lineup on Tuesday as a result. If he indeed suffered a concussion, the Pirates could be forced to put him on the seven-day concussion injured list. Evans has mostly been playing first base with Colin Moran on the IL, but he's hitting just .208/.310/.311 with five home runs and 15 RBI in 210 plate appearances this year and isn't much of a mixed league asset.

Phillip Evans Goes 3-For-7 In Doubleheader Split
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Phillip Evans went 3-for-7 with a home run, a stolen base, one RBI and two runs scored in a doubleheader split with the Tigers on Wednesday. While he's not the Pittsburgh rookie third baseman the fantasy world was expecting to be putting up big numbers, Evans has filled in nicely while Ke'Bryan Hayes is on the injured list, slashing .293/.379/.534 with four home runs, six RBI and 11 runs scored in 16 games. It's looking more and more like Evans will stick in the lineup somewhere even when Hayes returns, so managers in NL-only and 12-team mixed leagues should be looking to target him off the waiver-wire.

Phillip Evans Has Been A Pleasant Surprise
Pittsburgh Pirates rookie third baseman/outfielder Phillip Evans is 13-for-38 (.342) with three home runs, two doubles and a 1.076 OPS through 11 games to begin the season. The 28-year-old is tied for 26th among qualified hitters (tied with Nolan Arenado and Mike Trout) with 17 hard-hit batted balls (balls with an exit velocity above 95 mph). Evans' 92.8 mph average exit velocity ranks him at 17th, one spot higher than Bryce Harper. The rookie doesn't elevate the ball much, but he's struck out just 11.1 percent of the time. Evans is slashing .342/.444/.632 with eight runs scored and five RBI in the first 11 games of the season. He's taken full advantage of Ke'Bryan Hayes' injury, so expect the Pirates to find him a spot in the everyday lineup once Hayes is ready to return.

Phillip Evans Absent From Thursday's Starting Lineup
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Phillip Evans is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against Chris Paddack and the San Diego Padres. Erik Gonzalez is covering third in the game and batting fifth. Evans has been a great surprise story for the team so far this year. Through 11 games, he's slashing .342/.444/.632 with three home runs, five RBI and eight runs. The 28-year-old should be rostered in all deep leagues and NL-only leagues at this point. He's more of a fringe player in shallow leagues.

Phillip Evans Homers In Win Over Cubs
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Phillip Evans went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, one RBI and two runs scored in an 8-2 win over the Cubs on Saturday. Evans has looked good at the plate with Ke'Bryan Hayes on the injured list, slashing .391/.462/.826 with three home runs, four RBI and five runs scored in seven games. When Hayes returns, we will likely see Evans' playing time get reduced, although he could play some games in the outfield. Ride the hot bat right now and grab him in NL-only formats and deep-mixed leagues.

Phillip Evans Homers In Tuesday's Loss
Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Phillip Evans hit his second home run in as many games, as he finished 1-for-4 and accounted for the team's only run of the day in a 14-1 loss to Cincinnati. Tuesday's performance now has Evans hitting 5-for-12 in his four games as he has seen an uptick in playing time with Ke'Bryan Hayes on the injured list. Tuesday's game saw Evans get the start in the outfield, and he's back in the outfield again for Wednesday's game, so he could be gaining some positional flexibility in the near future. He looks to have a solid bat that managers should target in deep-mixed and NL-only formats, as he should figure to get playing time somewhat regularly.
