Gregory Santos News
Seattle Mariners GM Justin Hollander gave updates on several injured players. Relief pitcher Matt Brash (elbow) was shut down early in spring training with elbow inflammation. Hollander reports that Brash was able to throw live batting practice this week and that he will throw another in the next day or two. The hope is that Brash will be ready to head out on rehab assignment in the coming week when Seattle heads out on their next road trip this coming Wednesday after they finish the series with the Cincinnati Reds. Another high-leverage arm, Gregory Santos (lat), is playing catch from 75 feet out right now. He's a little behind Brash at this point, according to Hollander. The next progression is to throw at 105 feet in the next week and then progress to pitching off a mound after that. Santos has been out all season with a lat strain. At this time, Ryne Stanek and Andres Munoz continue to lead the Mariners' bullpen.
Seattle Mariners right-hander Matt Brash (elbow) threw a bullpen session in Arizona on Monday and mixed in some sliders. He hasn't started throwing at maximum effort yet but is making steady progress. Meanwhile, righty Gregory Santos' (lat) MRI exam came back clean and he began light baseball activities on Monday. There aren't any specific timetables for the return of Brash or Santos, but they are making progress. The 25-year-old Brash appears to be ahead of Santos in his recovery from injury. When healthy, both pitchers are expected to be key contributors in Seattle's bullpen in late-inning situations in front of closer Andres Munoz. Brash was a workhorse for the M's in 2023 with a career-high 70 2/3 innings pitched while finishing second among qualified relievers with 107 strikeouts.
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Gregory Santos (lat) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Thursday, per the Seattle Times' Ryan Divish. Santos has been dealing with a lat strain this spring which has slowed his progress on and off. The 24-year-old will continue his throwing program if the MRI comes back clean. While he may not provide a ton of fantasy value upon his return to the team, the Mariners will welcome him back as their bullpen depth is currently short with Matt Brash (elbow) dealing with right elbow inflammation.
