Matt Brash News
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Matt Brash fell to 8-4 in Monday's 7-6 loss to the Royals. Brash entered the game to pitch the bottom of the ninth up by one. He allowed back-to-back singles, putting runners on first and third. The runner on first advanced to second on a steal before he got the first out on a sacrifice fly to tie the game, during which the runner on second advanced to third. He finally gave up the winning run on a sacrifice bunt. The 25-year-old has been a useful high-leverage reliever for the Mariners this season and may see more save opportunities now that Paul Sewald has been traded away. However, he does seem to be clearly behind Andres Munoz in the pecking order. Brash has now converted only two of seven save opportunities this season with 16 holds, a 3.35 ERA, a 14.82 K/9 rate, and a 3.82 BB/9 rate.
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Matt Brash was asked to protect a two-run lead against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. Normally, Paul Sewald closes down games, but he took the mound in a tie game in the ninth inning. Brash has posted some shaky outings lately, but regardless the team gave him a chance to close down Sunday's contest. He did excellent here and earned his first career save. He holds a tough 4.65 ERA, but has a nice 26/5 K/BB ratio and hasn't allowed a home run in 13 innings. Possibly, Brash will see more chances in the ninth going forward. Although, fantasy managers shouldn't expect this to be a regular thing right now with Sewald pitching well.
Seattle Mariners right-hander Matt Brash picked up his first save of the season, and of his career, on Sunday, closing out the 10-8 affair against the Toronto Blue Jays. He pitched one inning, giving up no runs on one hit and two strikeouts. Brash has dominant stuff, demonstrated by his 26 strikeouts in 13 innings this season, but when batters do make contact, they hit him hard, as he owns a 4.85 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. Fantasy managers looking for saves should stay away from the Canadian native, who likely won't be in line for many more as the season progresses, but if he keeps earning more trust, he would be a solid option in hold leagues.
