Seattle Mariners right-hander Jackson Kowar is set to undergo Tommy John surgery after feeling soreness in his right arm. The 27-year-old went to see a doctor to check on his arm issues a few days ago and the end result concludes his 2024 season before it began. Acquired in a trade with the Braves this winter, Kowar struggled to a 6.43 ERA across 23 outings with the Royals in the 2023 season while also posting a 5.96 ERA in 45 1/3 frames at the Triple-A level. A 2018 Competitive Balance first-round pick, Kowar is likely to miss a decent chunk of the 2025 season, as well.

Jackson Kowar To Meet With A Doctor
Seattle Mariners right-hander Jackson Kowar is set to meet with a doctor to check on his arm issues, according to skipper Scott Servais. The 27-year-old has his third Cactus League appearance pushed back on Tuesday due to soreness and it appears the club feels it's necessary to visit with a specialist. The right-hander was acquired from the Braves as part of the trade that sent outfielder Jarred Kelenic to Atlanta this winter. He spent the 2023 season with the Royals where he made his big-league debut and pitched to a 6.43 ERA across 23 relief outings. He also tossed a 5.96 ERA across 30 appearances with Triple-A Omaha. He is competing for a long relief role with the M's in the 2024 season but remains off the fantasy radar.

Jackson Kowar, Cole Phillips Heading To Mariners
The Seattle Mariners acquired pitchers Jackson Kowar and Cole Phillips from the Atlanta Braves on Sunday night in exchange for outfielder Jarred Kelenic, left-hander Marco Gonzales, and first baseman Evan White. Kowar, a former top prospect, was traded from the Kansas City Royals to the Braves last month. The 27-year-old right-hander has struggled to a 9.12 ERA and 2.09 WHIP with 51 walks and 75 strikeouts in 39 appearances (eight starts) over 74 innings pitched with KC since the 2021 season. Kowar will most likely begin 2024 in the minors in Seattle's farm system. Phillips is only 20 years old and had Tommy John surgery in the spring of 2022. When healthy, the former second-round right-hander has a live arm and has the ability to reach triple digits with his heater.

Jackson Kowar Roughed Up In Season Finale
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jackson Kowar had yet another rough outing in the team's season finale against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. He pitched four innings and allowed five hits, one walk and five earned runs while striking out six. The 24-year-old had an extremely disappointing rookie season to say the least. Over nine games (eight starts), he went 0-6 with an 11.27 ERA, a 2.08 WHIP and an 18.8% strikeout rate. He entered the year as one of the team's top pitching prospects and the organization will surely give him a chance to bounce back next year. However, fantasy managers are going to be very hesitant to take a chance on him after such a horrendous rookie campaign.

Jackson Kowar Gives Up Five Runs In Monday's Loss
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jackson Kowar struggled once again in his start against the Cleveland Indians on Monday. He pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed seven hits, one walk and five earned runs while striking out four. He has now allowed at least five earned runs in four consecutive starts. The 24-year-old rookie has really struggled in his first taste of the majors this year. Over eight games (seven starts), he's gone 0-5 with an 11.28 ERA and a 2.16 WHIP. He's scheduled to make one more start this season against the Minnesota Twins in the team's final game of the year on Sunday.

Jackson Kowar Suffers His Fourth Loss On Sunday
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jackson Kowar had his third consecutive rough outing against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. He pitched four innings and allowed seven hits, three walks and five earned runs while striking out three. He has now allowed 16 earned runs over his last three starts, which have lasted a total of 11 innings. The rookie right-hander is 0-4 with an ugly 11.45 ERA and 2.23 WHIP on the year. The 24-year-old will need to do a lot of work this offseason to earn the trust of dynasty managers again. He's scheduled to make his next start on Saturday against the Detroit Tigers.

Jackson Kowar Lasts Just One Inning On Tuesday
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jackson Kowar had a dreadful outing against the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday. He pitched just one inning and allowed three hits, four walks and five earned runs while striking out one. Luckily, the Royals' offense exploded for 10 runs in the game so Kowar was left with a no decision. The rookie right-hander only has one quality start over his five starts this year. He's failed to reach the end of the second inning in three of those five starts. He has an ugly 11.50 ERA and 2.17 WHIP on the season. He'll look to shake off Tuesday's rough outing in his next trip to the mound against the Cleveland Indians on Monday.

Jackson Kowar Pitches Six Strong Innings On Wednesday
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Jackson Kowar had the best outing of his young career on Wednesday against the Cleveland Indians. He pitched six innings and allowed four hits, three walks and two runs (zero earned) while striking out six. Unfortunately, the Royals couldn't provide him with much run support and he wound up with a no decision. The 24-year-old made his first three MLB outings this past June and really struggled, allowing 10 earned runs over five innings. He spent the past two-plus months at Triple-A before being called up prior to Wednesday's game. He'll likely make his next start for the Royals on Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles. He's someone worth keeping an eye on for all fantasy formats.

Jackson Kowar To Start On Wednesday
The Kansas City Royals will recall starting pitcher Jackson Kowar from Triple-A and he will start Wednesday's game against the Cleveland Indians. The 24-year-old made his MLB debut earlier this year and struggled over three appearances (two starts). He pitched a total of five innings in June and allowed 11 hits, five walks and 10 earned runs while recording only two strikeouts. Hopefully things go better for him during this next stint in the majors. He's one of the team's top pitching prospects. At Triple-A this year, he's gone 9-4 with a 3.46 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP to go along with 12.8 K/9.

Royals Send Jackson Kowar Down
Kansas City Royals rookie right-hander Jackson Kowar was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday to make room on the roster for left-hander Danny Duffy, who was activated from the 10-day injured list. Kowar was excellent at Omaha before he was called up, going 5-0 with a pristine 0.85 ERA and 0.88 WHIP while fanning 41 and walking 10 in 31 2/3 innings pitched over six starts, but that success definitely didn't carry over to the big leagues in his debut. The 24-year-old allowed 10 runs in five innings of work in his first three appearances (two starts) for the Royals. The No. 4 prospect in the organization, per MLB Pipeline, Kowar will head back to the farm to hone his craft. He should eventually be a middle-of-the-rotation workhorse, but he's just not there yet.
