Kyle Bradish News
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Bradish couldn't follow up his previous outstanding outing against the Houston Astros with another such performance Tuesday, as he was knocked out after recording just seven outs against the Boston Red Sox in a 13-9 loss. Bradish gave up seven runs on four hits, four walks, and a hit-by-pitch. He struck out three batters and somehow avoided taking the loss. This outing lifts his ERA and WHIP to 5.11 and 1.39 with 106 strikeouts in 112 2/3 innings this year. Fantasy managers looking to stream Bradish were sorely disappointed. He can be left on the wire the rest of the way.
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Bradish was superb on Thursday as he shut down the Astros bats over 8 2/3 IP during his club's 2-0 victory. He allowed just two hits and struck out 10 batters without issuing a walk in the 100-pitch performance, falling just one out shy of the complete game. He retired the first 17 batters he faced on the night before a single broke up his no-hit bid in the sixth, and then he never allowed another base runner until Jeremy Pena singled with two outs in the ninth to chase him from the game. Bradish has dropped his ERA nearly a full run since the end of August to 4.65 to go along with a 1.35 WHIP through 110 1/3 IP so far in his rookie campaign. He's looking like a terrific late-season addition as managers will want to start him with confidence next week versus the Red Sox.
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Bradish was excellent on Thursday, tossing seven innings of shutout baseball as his club bested the Guardians 3-0. The righty allowed just two singles while striking out five and walking three in the 94-pitch effort to improve his record to 3-5 on the year. Bradish was fresh off an eight-inning gem versus Houston last week where he allowed zero runs on two hits, although he still owns a 5.17 ERA on the season. The rookie did pitch to a 3.14 ERA in August, so perhaps he is starting to get comfortable in the majors, but he'll face a tougher test next week when the Blue Jays come to town.

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Kyle Bradish finished his rookie campaign with some unflattering numbers: 4-7 record, 4.90 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 21.8% strikeout rate, and 9% walk rate over 23 starts. He allowed too many home runs (1.30 HR/9), in part because of poor contact stats (39th-percentile barrel rate, 24th-percentile hard-hit rate), but his 14.9% HR/FB and 19% HR/FB at home were bad breaks, especially at Camden Yards (26th in home run factor). Bradish's poor 89.9 MPH average exit velocity was a factor in his .268 batting average against, but the .311 BABIP and .253 xBA offer hope for better things to come in 2023. The 26-year-old has a couple of solid pitches in his arsenal; a four-seamer he threw with decent velocity (70th percentile) and spin (64th percentile) and a slider with great vertical and horizontal movement and got batters to chase 32.5% of the time. Utilizing the slider more than he did during his rookie season (29.7%) and finding more swing and miss in his fastball (17.5% whiff rate) will be significant for Bradish to find strikeout numbers that resemble his career minor league strikeout rate of 29%. He'll probably never be a great command pitcher, but he attacked the zone enough (48.7% zone rate) and will likely produce more swing and miss outside the zone going forward after posting a 51.2% chase contact rate. Bradish has the stuff to be a respectable major league starter, which he showed in the second half with a 3.28 ERA. Fantasy managers shouldn't view him as a potential ace, but even a 4.13 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and nine wins, as Steamer projects, with added strikeouts, are worth the right-hander's 518 ADP.
