Rico Garcia a High-End, Short-Term Option for Saves

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Rico Garcia locked down his second save of the season on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins and continues to be a high-end short-term option for the Orioles while Ryan Helsley (elbow) remains on the injured list. Garcia has been one of the go-to Orioles late-inning, high-leverage relievers coming into the season, as he has six holds on the season, and is 3-0 with a 0.53 ERA and 0.41 WHIP with 19 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched. The two saves Garcia has picked up this season have been the first two saves in his six-year career, and through 18 appearances on the season, Garcia is pitching the best he has in his entire career. The underlying metrics are supporting Garcia's breakout, with a 1.91 xERA, .156 xBA, and 33.3 percent strikeout rate. While Garcia's value as someone to pick up saves will be short-lived, in deeper, head-to-head formats, Garcia should be looked at as a top option. Helsley is tentatively expected back on May 15, so fantasy managers have a chance to secure a few more saves from Garcia until then.

Rico Garcia Earns Second Save, Emerging as Temporary Closer for Orioles

Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Rico Garcia slammed the door on the Marlins on Wednesday night to earn his second save of the season. He issued a walk to Owen Caissie to start the inning, but Garcia induced a double play from Otto Lopez and fanned Javier Sanoja to end the game. Garcia earned his second save of the year by securing the three-run win for Baltimore, and the 32-year-old righty should continue to have fantasy value as the team's closer as long as Ryan Helsley (elbow) is on the injured list. In his 18 games this season, Garcia has allowed just one run on one hit across 17 innings with 19 strikeouts. If you need a short-term addition to your bullpen, Garcia is one of the top options to consider.

Rico Garcia Earns the Win in a Leverage Spot

Baltimore Orioles closer Rico Garcia excelled in a high-leverage situation on Tuesday, earning the win as the Orioles defeated the Miami Marlins 9-7. Garcia entered in a tough spot after Andrew Kittredge blew the save and allowed the Marlins to tie the game in the eighth inning. The 32-year-old ended up going 1.1 innings, striking out two batters and walking one. He has arguably been the most fascinating storyline in baseball this season. After a solid 2025 campaign, Garcia has taken his pitching production to the next level with just one hit over 16 innings this year. He has a 0.56 ERA, 10.13 K/9, and a 58.1% ground ball rate while posting a 3-0 record with one save. Fantasy managers would like to see a higher save total, but it's no fault of his own. The Orioles haven't earned a single save since April 28, but there's a very strong chance that Garcia will get the next one when the time comes. He's up to #50 in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball rankings and should jump even higher with more volume.

Rico Garcia a Name to Watch for Saves in Baltimore

With Baltimore Orioles closer Ryan Helsley (elbow) on the 15-day injured list due to elbow discomfort, Orioles right-hander Rico Garcia could emerge as the team's temporary stand-in in the ninth inning. Garcia has been dominant to start 2026, pitching to a 0.66 ERA and 0.37 WHIP with 15 strikeouts and one save across 13 2/3 innings. He's struck out 32.6% of the batters he's faced and has allowed just one hit on the year. Garcia is not a lock to take over as the Baltimore closer, as he has just one career save across 74 MLB appearances. Orioles right-hander Andrew Kittredge has 21 career saves and has yet to allow an earned run since returning from a shoulder injury on April 24. Still, Garcia's elite production can't be ignored. With the Baltimore bullpen picture currently unclear, Garcia is worth targeting on the waiver wire.

Rico Garcia Continues Dominant Start to Season, Emerging as Elite Closer Handcuff

Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Rico Garcia has been excellent to start the season at the back end of Baltimore's bullpen. He worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning to earn his fourth hold of the year and has allowed just three walks in 7 2/3 scoreless innings across eight games. Garcia is still working in front of elite closer Ryan Helsley, who has also been excellent, giving the Orioles a dynamic duo to lock down the end of close games. Garcia would likely be the next option if Helsley faltered or was injured, and he's a strong option to handcuff to Helsley if you're in a deep or AL-only league that highly values relief pitching. The 32-year-old has been virtually unhittable so far this season and has been one of the best setup men in baseball.

Orioles Re-Sign Pitcher Rico Garcia to One-Year Deal

The Baltimore Orioles announced on Thursday that they re-signed right-hander Rico Garcia to an undisclosed one-year major-league deal for the 2026 season. The Orioles will have Garcia back next year after he finished up the year strong with Baltimore, posting a 2.84 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 20 strikeouts and six walks in 19 innings pitched over 20 appearances (one start). He also pitched with the New York Mets and New York Yankees in 2025, posting a combined 0-2 record, 3.15 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and 38:10 K:BB in 34 1/3 big-league frames. The 31-year-old veteran will report to spring training next February, looking to win a middle-relief role for the O's out of spring training. Garcia is not on the fantasy radar at all and holds a career 5.27 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in his 70 big-league innings over five seasons.

Rico Garcia Will be Opener for the Orioles on Saturday

Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Rico Garcia will be the team's opener for Saturday's game against the Astros, with left-hander Cade Povich to follow. The right-handed Garcia would theoretically see a trio of right-handed batters at the top of Houston's lineup, with the team's left-handed options typically hitting lower in the order. Garcia won't last very long in this game, so he would not be a viable DFS option, while Povich brings a 4.95 ERA and 1.43 WHIP into the contest and does not have much appeal beyond his 9.43 K/9 through 76 1/3 innings pitched this year. Houston also boasts the third-highest batting average against left-handed pitching this year, so DFS managers may want to look elsewhere for pitching while potentially stacking Houston batters.

Nationals Sign Rico Garcia To Minor-League Deal

The Washington Nationals signed free-agent right-hander Rico Garcia to a minor-league deal on Wednesday, and he will report to Triple-A Rochester. Garcia chose free agency on Tuesday after declining an outright assignment from the Oakland Athletics to go to Triple-A Las Vegas. The 29-year-old reliever quickly finds a new home but will have to prove himself in the minors first before he gets a shot with the rebuilding Nationals. He pitched in just 8 2/3 innings for the A's in 2023 and allowed eight earned runs on 13 hits (four homers) while walking five and striking out six. Garcia hasn't found any success in the big leagues to this point, as he currently has a 6.89 ERA (7.70 FIP), 1.84 WHIP, 17 walks and 17 strikeouts in 32 2/3 frames over 27 appearances (one start).

Rico Garcia Will Debut on Tuesday

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Rico Garcia has been recalled to make the start against the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday. Garcia is posting a 4.23 ERA with a 123/44 K/BB ratio in 123 1/3 innings in the minors this season. He seems like he has potential to be a successful pitcher in the majors. However, he's a risky streaming option while pitching in Coors Field against the Red Sox offense.

Rico Garcia To Make Debut Tuesday

The Colorado Rockies are calling up pitching prospect Rico Garcia to make his major league debut on Tuesday against the Red Sox, according to a source. Garcia is the team's No. 20 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 4.23 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 9.6 K/9 in 123 1/3 innings (25 starts) for Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque this season. There's some intriguing strikeout upside, but those in mixed leagues can ignore Garcia for however long he's in Colorado's rotation to finish the year. He's obviously one to avoid as a streamer against Boston at Coors Field. Colorado's rotation has been decimated by injuries recently to Jon Gray, Kyle Freeland and German Marquez.
