Cal Raleigh Still Out With Side Tightness Against Braves

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh (side) continues to sit out of Monday's series opener against the Atlanta Braves due to right-side tightness, according to MLB.com. Mitch Garver will do the catching for right-hander Logan Gilbert and will bat eighth for the M's against right-handed rookie JR Ritchie in the first game of the series in Seattle. Raleigh complained of side tightness on Friday and was scratched from the lineup against the Kansas City Royals on Saturday. The 29-year-old left-handed slugger also sat out of Sunday's series finale. The Mariners were concerned enough to send Raleigh for an MRI exam, but he said on Sunday that he's feeling better. We can't rule out an injured-list stint for the All-Star catcher yet, but for now, consider him to be day-to-day. Raleigh was a first-time All-Star in 2025, when he led the league in home runs (60) and RBI (125). He has homered seven times already in 33 games this year, but he's also struggled to a .186 average (24-for-129) with 16 walks and 43 strikeouts across 147 plate appearances. Check back on Tuesday to see if Raleigh can return to the starting nine in Seattle.

Cal Raleigh Considered Day-to-Day With Soreness in his Side

Seattle Mariners manager Dan Wilson said that catcher Cal Raleigh (side) is considered day-to-day while he battles soreness in his side, per Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. Kramer also reports that Raleigh is planning to go through pre-game drills on Sunday after he was scratched from the Mariners' lineup on Saturday. Coming off his 60-homer campaign in 2025, Raleigh is off to a bit of a slow start in 2026. Across 147 plate appearances, the 29-year-old is hitting .182/.272/.380 with seven home runs, 18 RBI, 13 runs scored, and two stolen bases. Raleigh's hard-hit rate is down from 49.6% to 30.7%, while his strikeout rate has risen from 26.7% to 29.3%. Still, the switch-hitting catcher owns an above-average 13.6% barrel rate and remains one of the most dangerous power hitters in baseball. It appears that Raleigh has a chance to avoid the injured list, although more information may be available later today. Mitch Garver started behind the plate and batted eighth in Raleigh's absence on Saturday.

Cal Raleigh Dealing with General Soreness, Required Imaging

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh (soreness) was scratched ahead of Saturday's game against the Kansas City Royals. The team has been vague about the injury and is calling it general soreness. Raleigh did need to undergo imaging, so this might be something that requires a stint on the Injured List. Mitch Garver drew the start behind the plate on Saturday. He figures to see the bulk of the playing time at catcher if Raleigh does miss time. Fantasy managers will need to check back for another update on his status.

Cal Raleigh Scratched From Lineup, No Reason Given

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh (undisclosed) was scratched from the starting lineup prior to the first pitch of Saturday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Raleigh had been slated to bat second, and he was replaced by catcher Mitch Garver, who hit eighth. The Mariners didn't provide a reason for Raleigh's absence, but it could be injury-related. After all, the team promoted catcher Jhonny Pereda on Saturday. With Garver already on the roster, it seems unlikely that the Mariners would need Pereda on the 26-man roster if Raleigh were healthy enough to play. Fans and fantasy managers will hope to receive additional updates from the team on Saturday night or Sunday morning. It's been a rough start to the year for last year's AL MVP runner-up. He has seven homers through 33 games, but he's slashing just .186/.272/.380 with 86 wRC+ and a 29.3% strikeout rate. For now, the 29-year-old still ranks #1 among catchers in RotoBaller's latest 2026 fantasy baseball rankings.

Cal Raleigh Breaks Lengthy Skid with First Long Ball of the Season

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh connected on his first home run of the season on Monday night in his team's loss to the Rangers. Raleigh didn't homer in his first 10 games of the season, going 5-for-38 (.132) with five walks and 20 strikeouts. He had a pair of hard-hit balls on Monday night, and his home run came in the first inning after a 12-pitch duel with Jacob deGrom. Raleigh didn't have another hit in the contest, but the Mariners and his fantasy managers will hope that this gets the start catcher back in the home run groove after he smashed 60 homers last season with a .342 ISO that stands in stark contrast to his .122 ISO so far this season. He'll look to build some momentum as the Mariners continue their series in Texas by facing Nate Eovaldi on Tuesday.

Cal Raleigh Getting a Breather Against Lefty on Monday

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh is not in the team's starting lineup on Monday for the series opener against the visiting New York Yankees at T-Mobile Park, according to MLB.com. Mitch Garver is doing the catching for right-hander Luis Castillo and will hit sixth against Yankees lefty Ryan Weathers. Raleigh is just getting a normal day of rest against a lefty pitcher. After breaking out in 2025, the 29-year-old left-handed slugger has gone just 2-for-15 to start the 2026 season with a double, an RBI, a stolen base, three walks, and 10 strikeouts in 18 plate appearances. It's not the start his fantasy managers had hoped for, but it's still very early. With Yankees ace Max Fried on the mound on Tuesday against the M's, Raleigh's rough start to the season could continue if he's back in the starting lineup.

Cal Raleigh Remains the Clear No. 1 Catcher Across All Formats

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh had one of the all-time great offensive seasons by a backstop in 2025, slashing .247/.359/.589 with 60 home runs, 125 RBI, 114 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases across 705 plate appearances. With a career 15.4% barrel rate and 153 career home runs to his name across 623 total MLB games, Raleigh's ability to hit for power is not up for debate. He also lowered his strikeout rate to a career-best 26.7% in 2025, which could help his batting average in 2026 stay closer to his 2025 mark than his career average of .226. While Seattle will deploy Raleigh at designated hitter on days when he needs a break from catching, it may be difficult for him to reach 700 plate appearances for the second straight year. However, even if his counting stats regress across the board, Raleigh still projects as the number one catcher in fantasy baseball by a significant margin. Managers will have to pay a steep price in drafts to get Raleigh on their teams, but his upside relative to his positional peers may make him worth it.

Can Cal Raleigh Duplicate his Monster Season?

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh had unprecedented success last year, breaking through for 60 home runs and 125 RBI. He's clearly the top bat available at a thin catcher position, and the fact that he's in the lineup almost every day, either behind the plate or at DH, makes him an even more valuable asset at one of the thinnest fantasy baseball positions. Raliegh played 159 games for the Mariners last year, hitting .247 with those 60 homers and a .392 wOBA while also adding in a sneaky 14 stolen bases. Big Dumper cut down on his strikeout rate and increased his barrel rate to a career-high 19.5%. He has at least 30 homers in three straight seasons and will be 29 when this season begins. There's likely to be some regression since no switch-hitting catcher has been so productive, but he was better than every other catcher by such a wide margin that he's still a great fantasy option for 2026. Barring injury, we should have a few more seasons of peak Raleigh, and he makes a lot of sense as an early target in most formats, where no other catcher comes close to matching his upside and production.

Cal Raleigh Breaks Mariners Single-Season Home Run Record

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh broke yet another record in a crucial 6-4 win over the division-rival Houston Astros on Saturday. The AL MVP contender belted his 57th home run of the year, passing the legendary Ken Griffey Jr. to set a new single-season franchise record. Raleigh, who swatted a solo shot against Astros left-hander Framber Valdez, finished the night 1-for-4 with a walk and an additional run scored. He's now slashing .246/.361/.586 with an AL-leading 119 RBI, 106 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases in 152 games and 674 plate appearances. Not only is Raleigh the first catcher to ever slug 50 HRs in a season, but with a week of games left, he has a legitimate shot at 60.

Cal Raleigh Sets Single-Season Home Run Record for a Switch-Hitter

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh made history in Tuesday's matchup against the Kansas City Royals by hitting his 55th and 56th home runs of the season, passing Mickey Mantle for the most home runs by a switch-hitter in a single year. Mantle's mark stood for more than six decades before Raleigh surpassed it with his latest power display. The 28-year-old slugger leads the majors in home runs and is firmly in the American League MVP conversation. Raleigh is slashing .248/.362/.592 with a .954 OPS in his fifth major league season and continues to launch baseballs with authority, providing the Mariners with a consistent source of power during their late-season push.
