Dominic Canzone News
Seattle Mariners rookie outfielder Dominic Canzone is getting the start again in left field and is hitting seventh in the lineup on Wednesday against Boston Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford. Canzone made his debut with the M's on Tuesday and went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored after coming over from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday in the Paul Sewald trade. The 25-year-old has hit .238 (10-for-42) with a homer, eight RBI and five runs scored in his first 15 games in the big leagues, and he could see some decent playing time with his new team with Jarred Kelenic out for the foreseeable future with a fractured foot. Canzone is worth picking up for outfield depth in deep-mixed and AL-only leagues.
The Seattle Mariners acquired infielder Josh Rojas, outfielder/first baseman Dominic Canzone and infielder Ryan Bliss from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday in exchange for closer Paul Sewald, according to a source. Rojas could probably use a change of scenery after hitting a rough .228/.292/.296 with no homers, 26 RBI, six stolen bases and 23 runs scored for the D-backs in 189 at-bats this year. The 29-year-old could have a better shot at playing time in Seattle at second base alongside Kolten Wong and Jose Caballero. Canzone, Arizona's No. 19 prospect, has gone 9-for-38 (.237) with a homer, two doubles, eight RBI and four runs in his first 15 MLB games in 2023. Bliss, Arizona's No. 29 prospect, is a middle infielder that has hit .332 with 13 homers, 27 doubles, six triples, 51 RBI and 35 steals in 81 games with Double-A Amarillo and Triple-A Reno this year.
The Arizona Diamondbacks have selected the contract of outfield prospect Dominic Canzone. In the process, Arizona optioned outfielder Dominic Fletcher and designated left-handed pitcher Konnor Pilkington for assignment. Canzone has put together an incredible season with Triple-A Reno, slashing .354/.431/.634 with 16 home runs, 71 RBI, 61 runs, and two stolen bases in 71 games. Despite Fletcher's demotion, there is still uncertainty over how much playing time he'll garner in the early going with the crowded outfield in Arizona. He is not listed as a starter for tonight's game against Pittsburgh. Despite concerns, his stellar offensive performance with Reno makes him an enticing prospective add in most redraft leagues.
