Michael Toglia News
The Colorado Rockies are expected to call up first baseman/outfielder Michael Toglia from the minors for the start of the second half of the season on Friday. The team optioned infielder Elehuris Montero to the minors just before the All-Star break in order to get him some more playing time. Toglia has shown an improved bat lately at Triple-A Albuquerque, where he is hitting .254 (73-for-288) overall with 16 home runs, 13 doubles, two triples, 63 RBI, three stolen bases and 54 runs scored in 73 games. The 24-year-old switch-hitter has hit just .209 (28-for-134) with two home runs and 12 RBI so far in 41 major-league games with the Rockies, but he could be worth a look in much deeper fantasy leagues if he sees decent playing time.
Colorado Rockies first baseman C.J. Cron (back) will likely head to the IL on Monday with back spasms. Cron left early Sunday against the Phillies, and although the injury seemed minor, the Rockies appear to be playing it safe with the 33-year-old by sending him to the IL. Being called up in his place is prospect Michael Toglia, who got his first sniff of the majors last year but didn't perform well. Toglia has been good at Triple-A this season, slashing .257/.364/.493 with eight homers. He doesn't need to be added other than in deep leagues, but he does have the potential to get on the fantasy radar quickly.
The Colorado Rockies are calling up first base prospect Michael Toglia from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday. The 23-year-old switch-hitter was the team's top draft pick from 2019, and he was hitting a combined .249/.341/.511 with an .852 OPS, 30 home runs, 83 RBI, 74 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 114 games with Double-A Hartford and Albuquerque before his call-up. In 17 games for Albuquerque, he hit .333 (22-for-66) with seven long balls, 17 RBI and 11 runs scored. Toglia, the team's No. 14 prospect per MLB Pipeline, should play regularly between first base and designated hitter in Colorado, making him an attractive waiver-wire pickup, at least in deeper fantasy leagues.
