Michael Toglia Smacks Grand Slam Wednesday

Colorado Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia finally got the monkey off his back on Wednesday, hitting his first homer of the season in an 8-7 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Toglia did it in dramatic fashion, too, smacking a grand slam to pull the Rockies within one run in the third inning. Unfortunately for the 26-year-old, that is about the only thing that has gone right for him this season. He is hitting .172 with a .475 OPS and has struck out an abysmal 32 times in just 64 at-bats. Yup, he's striking out 50% of the time. He even struck out three times in this game. He was a fairly popular sleeper in drafts this season, but at this point it might be time to move on, at least until he shows some signs of life for more than one at-bat.

Michael Toglia Absent On Tuesday

Colorado Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers. He'll take a breather for the first time this season after starting each of the team's first 16 games. Hopefully, the rest can give him time to reset and break out of his early-season slump, as he's batting just .167 with no home runs. Kyle Farmer will get the start at first base in his place.

Michael Toglia Collects Three Hits On Thursday

Colorado Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored in the Rockies' 7-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday to avoid the three-game sweep. Toglia got some hype coming into the season when he was announced as a starter in spring training. However, it's been a bit of a slow start for him as he is slashing .191/.240/.255 (9-for-47) with four runs scored and only one RBI. Ultimately, Rockies hitters will always get a bit of an edge playing in Coors half of their games, so as the season heats up, fantasy managers can expect Toglia to hit for more power as he hit 25 home runs last year. Next for the Rockies are a couple of difficult road trips to take on the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Michael Toglia Says He's An Everyday Player

Colorado Rockies switch-hitting first baseman Michael Toglia is preparing to be an everyday player in 2025 after he hit .218/.311/.456 with 25 home runs (one shy of the team lead), 55 RBI, 10 stolen bases and 62 runs scored in a career-high 116 games played in his third year in the big leagues. Toglia began the year going 5-for-47 (four homers) before being sent to the minors. The 26-year-old started the remaining 101 games (90 at first) after his June 6 recall. The former first-rounder out of UCLA had a 32.1% strikeout rate last year, but he also walked once per 11.8 plate appearances. Toglia should have plenty of opportunities in 2025, and MLB.com's Thomas Harding writes that he could pass Andres Galarraga's club record of 99 straight starts at first base. He probably won't help your batting average, but fantasy managers targeting power have to be intrigued by Toglia with regular playing time.

Michael Toglia Smashes Three-Run Homer As Part Of Multi-Hit Game

Colorado Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia crushed his 23rd home run of the season and added a late game double in the Rockies 3-2 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday. Toglia's three-run shot off Frankie Montas ended up being a game winner for the Rockies. Toglia's OPS improved to .793 as he continues to be a low average, high power type of hitter for the Rockies. The switch-hitter has taken advantage of consistent playing time thanks to multiple injury stints from Kris Bryant and the Rockies' demotion of Elehuris Montero, clearing the way for Toglia to be the everyday first baseman for Colorado. Fantasy managers who need help at first base should snag up Toglia as soon as possible as his .362 xwOBA ranks in the 89th percentile, making him a must own. He'll look to continue crushing balls on Saturday when the Rockies face off against Brewers scheduled starter Tobias Myers.

Michael Toglia Hits 21st Homer, Records Four Runs During Multi-Hit Game

Colorado Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia had a very productive day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run en route to recording four runs in the Rockies' 9-2 win over the New York Yankees on Saturday. Toglia now has an .809 OPS on the season and has greatly benefitted from consistent playing time with the Rockies. The switch-hitter hit for an .881 OPS in July and has a .939 OPS in August, greatly improved from his career .688 OPS. Fantasy managers looking for help at first base need to look Toglia's way, as his .361 xwOBA ranks in the 88th percentile. With no other veterans blocking Toglia at first base, he should continue to get consistent playing time to finish the season. Expect Toglia to be in Sunday's lineup when the Rockies take on Yankees' scheduled starter Marcus Stroman.

Michael Toglia Belts Three Homers On Sunday

Colorado Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia continued his power barrage on Sunday, blasting three solo shots to lead the Rockies past the New York Mets. Toglia went 3-for-4 with three runs, three homers, and three RBI on the day. The big slugger now has six homers in his last six games, giving him 16 in just 173 at-bats on the season. Although the average is terrible, his counting stats have been solid for the amount of at-bats he has and he's also chipped in a few steals, making him a somewhat useful fantasy player in deeper leagues. He should be looked at in deeper leagues where managers are in need of some pop.

Michael Toglia Homers Wednesday

Colorado Rockies first baseman Michael Toglia had a big night in a 7-6 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday. Toglia went 2-for-4 with a triple, a homer, two runs, and three RBI to help power his team to the win over their division rivals. The 25-year-old kicked off the scoring for the Rockies, blasting a three-run homer in the first inning off starter Bobby Miller. The homer traveled 427 feet and had an exit velocity of 104 MPH. Toglia is now hitting .191 with six homers, 14 runs, 20 RBI, and one stolen base across 94 at-bats in 2024.

Rockies Recall Hunter Goodman, Option Michael Toglia

The Colorado Rockies announced on Wednesday that they recalled utility man Hunter Goodman from Triple-A Albuquerque and optioned infielder/outfielder Michael Toglia to Albuquerque in a corresponding move. Goodman, the club's No. 12 prospect per MLB Pipeline, gets called up to the majors after hitting .298 with seven home runs and 10 doubles in the first 20 games at Triple-A this year. The 24-year-old former fourth-round pick in 2021 out of Memphis made his big-league debut in 2023 and went 14-for-70 (.200) with a homer, 17 RBI, five walks and 24 strikeouts in his first 23 games played in the Show. For now, he's merely a waiver-wire option for fantasy managers in deep leagues for his power upside at Coors Field. He figures to see some playing time in right field and first base, but he's not start in Wednesday against the visiting San Diego Padres.

Michael Toglia, Alan Trejo Make Opening Day Roster

Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black announced on Tuesday that first baseman/outfielder Michael Toglia and non-roster infielder Alan Trejo have made the Opening Day roster. In addition, right-hander Victor Vodnik made the bullpen, while outfielder Sean Bouchard has been optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque. Toglia is a switch-hitting 24-year-old who was taken 23rd overall in 2019 out of UCLA. He showed plenty of power in the minors but hit just .163 (23-for-141) with four homers and nine RBI in 45 games for the Rockies in 2023. Toglia will have a low fantasy ceiling as a platoon option against righties in the outfield while also being a backup at first. Trejo, 27, mostly offers the Rockies defensive versatility on the infield as a bench player. He has just nine homers in 76 career games and hit .224/.284/.507 in a career-high 45 contests in Colorado in 2023.
