Seranthony Domínguez News
Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Seranthony Dominguez underwent successful Tommy John surgery on Thursday after months of wait. The flamethrowing right-hander was recommended for surgery back in March, and he will now need at least a year of recovery time. If all goes well, Dominguez could return to the Phillies in late 2021, but chances are he'll return in 2022. He still carries some deep dynasty appeal, but he'll have to re-establish himself to the club if he wants to earn the closing gig back.
Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Seranthony Dominguez (elbow) is still waiting to have Tommy John surgery. Dominguez injured his arm last June, which cost him the rest of the season. He was attempting to return this season but re-injured his arm in a spring training game in March. It had been reported Dominguez was to have surgery in June, but elective surgeries have been difficult to come by with the medical world focused on the COVID-19 pandemic, and the right-hander was also trying to make his way back to the U.S. for the procedure. Dominguez obviously won't make an impact this season, and the later he goes without going under the knife, the longer it'll take before we see him on a big league mound. He could be out for all of 2021 as well.
It's still unclear whether Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Seranthony Dominguez (elbow) will have Tommy John surgery. Because of the coronavirus, Dominguez hasn't been able to get a second opinion on his arm from orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. General manager Matt Klentak said a decision on Dominguez's surgery won't be made until he gets the second opinion. All signs point to the reliever having surgery, which would keep him out the rest of this season and for the start of 2021. The 25-year-old only threw 24 2/3 innings in 2019 because of his arm injury, but he was solid in 2018 with a 2.95 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 11.5 strikeouts per nine innings and 16 saves. Until further notice, Dominguez is off the fantasy radar.
