The Boston Red Sox announced on Monday that they exercised outfielder Rob Refsnyder's $2.1 million option for the 2025 season. In a Red Sox lineup with plenty of left-handed hitters, Refsnyder was once again very valuable as a right-handed bat in Beantown in his third year with the team. In 307 plate appearances over 93 games, he hit .283/.359/.471 with an .830 OPS, a career-high 11 home runs, 40 RBI, two stolen bases and 32 runs scored as a platoon outfielder. Refsnyder doesn't receive the playing time to make him all that valuable in regular fantasy leagues, but he stands out as a DFS streamer because of his dominance over left-handed pitching. The South Korean outfielder hit .302 (38-for-126) with eight of his 11 home runs against southpaws in 2024.

The injury appears to be a minor one for the 33-year-old, and if all goes well he has a good chance to get back in the lineup this weekend. Refsnyder has had a surprisingly solid season, slashing .284/.361/.472 in 271 AB, but his playing time has been inconsistent and therefore he isn't of much use in fantasy.

Refsnyder went 4-for-4 with a single, a double, a solo home run, a two-run HR, five RBI, and a walk. The 33-year-old veteran took Cade Povich deep to straightaway center in the third inning and took Cole Irvin just beyond the Pesky Pole in the eighth inning. Refsnyder has put together a solid season slash line in limited playing time and is batting .400 with an .867 slugging percentage in September. However, he has managed just 15 at-bats in the month. Refsnyder could provide a hot bat to cap off the season, but he will need to translate his success into more playing time to put him in the fantasy roster conversation.

The 33-year-old veteran outfielder can't be counted on for much power or speed, but he makes plenty of contact and has provided fantasy managers in deeper leagues with a strong average (.299) in 167 at-bats in 2024. He's been great against lefties with a .301/.427/.480 slash line with a .907 OPS and three of his four home runs in 89 plate appearances, too, making him a more attractive DFS sleeper on Monday at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

In his only career at-bat against Lodolo, Refsnyder hit a solo home run. Boston Red Sox catcher Connor Wong and outfielder Rob Refsnyder are both out of the starting lineup on Saturday versus the visiting Detroit Tigers. Reese McGuire will do the catching for Boston and will bat seventh, while Enmanuel Valdez will serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth against Tigers right-hander Reese Olson. Wong has been a revelation for fantasy managers this year with a .329/.371/.473 slash line with an .844 OPS, five homers and 19 RBI, but his xBA of just .259 signals that regression is likely coming for the backstop. Still, fantasy managers need to keep riding him while he's hot. Refsnyder has also swung a hot bat so far in 2024, going 29-for-87 (333), and the 33-year-old should continue to play regularly with Tyler O'Neill (knee) and Masataka Yoshida (thumb) both on the injured list. O'Neill could be returning next week, though.

Refnsyder is known for hitting left-handers well in his career, too, so he should certainly be on the DFS radar in his return to the lineup after missing this week's series against the Atlanta Braves. He has one hit in three career at-bats against Corbin.

The Red Sox haven't put a timetable on Refsnyder's recovery from his fractured toe, but with Opening Day just several weeks away, the 32-year-old veteran outfielder is almost certain to begin the 2024 regular season on the 10-day injured list, at the very least. When healthy, Refsnyder will serve as outfield depth in Beantown, making him only useful for bench depth in AL-only fantasy leagues. Refsnyder's injury to begin the season should open the door for young center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela to make the team's Opening Day roster, and he could be a lineup regular.
