Rob Refsnyder Batting Leadoff for Mariners on Saturday

Seattle Mariners outfielder Rob Refsnyder is serving as the team's designated hitter and will bat in the leadoff spot on Saturday against the Cleveland Guardians and left-hander Joey Cantillo at T-Mobile Park, according to MLB.com. Refsnyder is known as a lefty killer in his career, and he's the only Mariners player who has faced Cantillo in his career, going 1-for-3 against him. It's Refsnyder's first action of the 2026 season for Seattle after spending the last four years with the Boston Red Sox. The 35-year-old veteran South Korean native is a career .255/.343/.387 hitter with 33 home runs, 154 RBI, and 22 stolen bases in his 10 big-league seasons. Against southpaws, though, Refsnyder has hit .281/.383/.443 with an .826 slash line, and 22 of his 33 career home runs in 791 plate appearances. In comparison, he has just a .633 OPS against right-handers. Similar to what his role was like in Boston, Refsnyder will enter Seattle's lineup as an outfielder or DH against lefties in 2026. With Refsnyder at leadoff, third baseman Brendan Donovan will move down to the six-hole on Saturday.

Rob Refsnyder Exits Early During Thursday's Game

Seattle Mariners outfielder Rob Refsnyder (elbow) was forced to make an early exit from Thursday's Cactus League matchup against the Athletics. Refsnyder was forced to exit in the sixth inning after getting hit by a pitch on the left elbow. The organization hasn't given an update on his status, so fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. The 34-year-old signed a one-year, $6.25 million deal with the Mariners over the offseason. He crushes left-handed pitching, so the expectation is that he'll be a platoon bat in the outfield and at designated hitter. His struggles against right-handed pitching make him difficult to trust as a long-term option and more of a streaming choice.

Rob Refsnyder Headed to Seattle

The Seattle Mariners have signed free-agent first baseman/outfielder Rob Refsnyder on Monday, according to Jeff Passan. The deal is reportedly a one-year contract worth $6.25 million for the 2026 campaign. The journeyman has spent each of the last four seasons as a part-time player with the Boston Red Sox. Refsnyder mostly plays against left-handed pitching, but has excelled enough at that to carve out a decent career for himself. Last season, Refsnyder slashed .302/.399/.560 with seven home runs and 25 RBI against southpaws. The 34-year-old figures to be a platoon option at both first base and right field, and possibly sees time at designated hitter, making him mainly an option in AL-Only Leagues.

Rob Refsnyder Activated and Starting on Thursday

The Boston Red Sox have activated outfielder Rob Refsnyder (oblique) from the 10-day injured list and right-handed reliever Justin Slaten (shoulder) from the 60-day IL. To make room, the team placed first baseman Nathaniel Lowe (personal) on the paternity list and optioned lefty Jovani Moran to Triple-A Worcester. Refsnyder missed two weeks with a strained left oblique and will return Thursday to DH and bat fifth against Baltimore Orioles left-hander Cade Povich. The right-handed hitter has slashed a robust .287/.384/.521 in 112 plate appearances versus southpaws this season. Slaten is on his way back after sitting out three months with shoulder inflammation. Before the Red Sox placed him on the IL on May 29, Slaten pitched to a 3.47 ERA with a microscopic .90 WHIP, 16:7 K:BB, four holds, and three saves in 23 1/3 innings. The 27-year-old will give Boston's bullpen another competent setup man in front of shutdown closer Aroldis Chapman.

Rob Refsnyder Nearing Return

The Boston Red Sox plan to activate outfielder Rob Refsnyder (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on either Wednesday or Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles. Refsnyder hasn't played since Aug. 13 as a result of a strained left oblique. The right-handed Refsnyder has done most of his damage in his career against southpaws, which has once again been the case this year. Refnysder owns a .905 OPS versus lefties in 2025, while righties have held him to a .646 mark. Overall, the 34-year-old reserve has slashed .272/.357/.471 with six homers, 22 RBI, 23 runs scored, and three steals across 54 games and 157 trips to the plate.

Rob Refsnyder Could Return Next Week

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that outfielder Rob Refsnyder (oblique) could return from the 10-day injured list next week after running sprints before Friday's series opener in the Bronx against the New York Yankees. Refsnyder last played in a game for the Red Sox on Aug. 13 before suffering a left-oblique strain. It sounds as though the 34-year-old veteran will not have to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before rejoining the major-league squad. When he's back, he's going to be a right-handed-hitting outfield/designated hitter option for Boston only against left-handed pitching, making him avoidable in all but the deepest of fantasy formats. The South Korea native is slashing .272/.357/.471 with an .827 OPS, six homers, 22 RBI and 23 runs on the season. With young outfielders Roman Anthony and Jhostynxon Garcia around, playing time will be harder to come by for Refsnyder.

Rob Refsnyder on the Injured List With Oblique Strain

The Boston Red Sox announced on Monday that they placed outfielder Rob Refsnyder (oblique) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 15) with a left-oblique strain and recalled infielder/outfielder Nate Eaton from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. The team also designated catcher Ali Sanchez for assignment. Given the nature of Refsnyder's injury, it's likely he'll be out beyond 10 days. The 34-year-old veteran typically only plays for Boston against left-handed pitchers, and he hadn't played since last Wednesday. Refsnyder is only outfield depth in AL-only leagues when he's healthy and he's slashed .272/.357/.471 on the year with an .827 OPS, six home runs, 22 RBI, 23 runs scored and three stolen bases in 157 plate appearances over 54 games. His playing time has been even more sparse since Roman Anthony was called up.

Rob Refsnyder Faces Live Pitching On Wednesday

Boston Red Sox outfielder Rob Refsnyder (forearm) took live batting practice on Wednesday in camp against right-hander Zack Kelly and turned on a high-90s fastball for a home run. Refsnyder finished last year on the injured list due to a right-forearm strain, but he appears to be fully healthy now and should be ready for Opening Day in late March. The 33-year-old veteran should resume his role on the short side of a platoon for the Red Sox in the outfield and at designated hitter against left-handed pitchers. The South Korean native and former fifth-rounder by the New York Yankees in 2012 out of the University of Arizona hit an impressive .283/.359/.471 with an .830 OPS, 11 home runs and 40 RBI in 272 total at-bats in 2024. He has a career .277/.380/.419 slash line against lefties but lacks a ton of power and will have a limited workload for Boston.

Red Sox Pick Up Rob Refsnyder's Option

The Boston Red Sox announced on Monday that they exercised outfielder Rob Refsnyder's $2.1 million option for the 2025 season. In a Red Sox lineup with plenty of left-handed hitters, Refsnyder was once again very valuable as a right-handed bat in Beantown in his third year with the team. In 307 plate appearances over 93 games, he hit .283/.359/.471 with an .830 OPS, a career-high 11 home runs, 40 RBI, two stolen bases and 32 runs scored as a platoon outfielder. Refsnyder doesn't receive the playing time to make him all that valuable in regular fantasy leagues, but he stands out as a DFS streamer because of his dominance over left-handed pitching. The South Korean outfielder hit .302 (38-for-126) with eight of his 11 home runs against southpaws in 2024.

Rob Refsnyder Placed On Injured List

Boston Red Sox outfielder Rob Refsnyder (forearm) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday. The 33-year-old was trying to avoid this, but has been dealing with discomfort for over a week now. There isn't enough time for Refsnyder to return before the end of the regular season. He'll finish his season with a .283/.359/.471 slash line with 11 home runs and 40 RBI. In a corresponding move, infielder Vaughn Grissom has been recalled from the minors. He figures to see play in a handful of games before the end of the season, but isn't someone worth snagging in fantasy formats.
