Ryan Bliss To Have Surgery On Torn Biceps, To Miss 4-5 Months
The Seattle Mariners announced on Thursday that infielder Ryan Bliss (biceps) will have surgery on his torn left biceps on Friday and is expected to miss four to five months. Bliss was put on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday after suffering the serious injury during a swing in Tuesday's game against the Houston Astros. The 25-year-old will be out for the foreseeable future and will eventually be moved to the 60-day IL. It's a tough break for Bliss, who had been serving as the team's primary second baseman before the injury. Before the injury, the former second-rounder by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2021 out of Auburn was hitting just .200 (7-for-35) with a home run, double, three RBI, two steals and a run scored in 11 games. With Bliss out for a while, expect Dylan Moore to see most of the playing time at the keystone, with Miles Mastrobuoni and Leo Rivas occasionally filling in.
Seattle Mariners second baseman Ryan Bliss (biceps) was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left biceps tear. The 25-year-old reportedly suffered this injury during Tuesday's contest against the Houston Astros. In a corresponding move, the Mariners promoted Leo Rivas from Triple-A Tacoma. Bliss has had a starting role in the Seattle starting nine through the opening two weeks of the season. Through 11 games, Bliss has posted a .200/.282/.314 slash line with one double and one home run. Fantasy managers should expect Dylan Moore to see most of the time at the keystone, once veteran Jorge Polanco is cleared to return to the hot corner. Miles Mastrobuoni and Leo Rivas could also see occasional starts at second base as well.
Ryan Bliss Optioned To Triple-A; Jason Vosler Called Up
The Seattle Mariners optioned infielder Ryan Bliss after the team's 6-4 win over the Houston Astros on Sunday and called up Jason Vosler to take his spot on the roster. Bliss has struggled in his first year in the big leagues, hitting just .220 with one home run, three doubles, and seven RBI across 31 games. The 24-year-old has also not seen much playing time over the past few weeks, starting just once since June 26. That demotion has led to Vosler getting called up for the first time this year. He played 20 games with the Cincinnati Reds last year, where he hit .161 with three HRs and 10 RBI. As a result, he doesn't need to be added in any fantasy leagues.
Ryan Bliss Added To Roster, Making MLB Debut On Monday
Seattle Mariners infield prospect Ryan Bliss was selected from Triple-A Tacoma and will make his MLB debut on Monday night against the Houston Astros. Bliss, the team's 11th-ranked prospect, is starting at second base and batting eighth against Astros left-hander Framber Valdez. The 24-year-old will likely back up Dylan Moore at second base with Jorge Polanco (hamstring) shelved, but there is an outside chance he could see regular at-bats. Bliss was slashing .247/.382/.445 with seven homers, 35 RBI and 28 stolen bases at the time of his promotion. He has sneaky power and great speed, but he is not an immediate pickup in most formats as playing time and contact skills hamper the potential.
Seattle Mariners shortstop prospect Ryan Bliss went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and a walk for Triple-A Tacoma on Sunday. He also drove in a run and scored once. The 24-year-old is having a decent season so far at the plate, going 19-for-76 (.250) with four doubles, three triples, and three home runs, but has also driven in 20 runs and scored 16 times. The right-handed hitter has also shown patience with 16 walks (16.3%) to 23 strikeouts (23.5%) and has already stolen 12 bases in 21 games. Bliss slashed .304/.378/.524 last season with 23 home runs and 55 stolen bases, which was great, but he can do it with his glove too, winning the Arizona Fall League Defensive Player of the Year in 2023. He also had a strong showing in spring training this season, hitting .333 (12-for-36) with a home run and five stolen bases, so it would seem he's knocking on the door to a major league debut within the next month or two. Fantasy managers in need of steals would be wise to keep tabs on him.
