Hunter Renfroe Fantasy Stats

Per the team, the Kansas City Royals have designated outfielder Hunter Renfroe for assignment. Infielder Nick Loftin was recalled from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move. The former first-round pick has been dreadful this season, batting .182 (18-for-99) with six doubles, five runs scored, four RBI, and no home runs (35 appearances). Kansas City will now have the week to decide what is next for the veteran. If Renfroe ends up in the minors, it will be his first trip there since 2018, during his time with the San Diego Padres. He hasn't posted a double-digit barrel rate since 2022, having plateaued around 6% over the prior three seasons after regularly achieving 10% or higher through the first seven years of his career.

While Carrasco is a good matchup, fantasy managers setting DFS lineups can probably do better than Biggio.

Garcia is probably the best DFS bet as a sleeper on Thursday, as he's hitting .308 (12-for-39) with two homers, three doubles, six RBI and a steal in 12 games so far this year. He's hit just .143 in seven career at-bats against Ober, but it's come with a home run and two RBI.

Fantasy managers should expect Renfroe to be deployed as a platoon option early on in right field with the opportunity to grow into a full-time role if he can get back on track. He could be worth a look as a late-option for power in deeper formats. Stratton should be in the mix to see a handful of save opportunities in 2025.

Renfroe, who is hitting just .237/.312/.398 with a .710 OPS, 12 home runs and 47 RBI in 334 at-bats for the Royals this year, will be a platoon bat for the Royals against left-handed pitchers, at best, upon his return after the addition of right-handed-hitting outfielder Tommy Pham. With Vinnie Pasquantino (thumb) expected to miss the rest of the regular season, some of Renfroe's playing time could come at first base down the stretch. He has been out since late August with a strained right hamstring. He went 8-for-21 (.381) with a homer and three RBI in six games before landing on the IL, so KC will be hoping he can pick up where he left off.
