Hyeon-Jong Yang Designated For Assignment Thursday

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Hyeon-Jong Yang was designated for assignment on Thursday to make room on the roster for newly acquired pitcher Dennis Santana, according to Rangers executive vice president of communications John Blake. Yang has struggled on the mound in his first year in MLB, going 0-3 with a 5.59 ERA and a 15 percent strikeout rate over 29 innings of work, and he has allowed at least one run in seven of his eight appearances this season. Unsurprisingly, Yang is not relevant in any fantasy format.

Hyeon-Jong Yang Pitches Well Versus Yankees

Texas Rangers pitcher Hyeon-Jon Yang did his job during Wednesday's loss to the New York Yankees. He delivered 5 1/3 innings, allowing three hits, two runs, four walks, and two strikeouts. It was actually an extremely solid outing for Yang until the sixth inning when things began to get out of hand. The veteran swingman pitched well enough to get the win, but the Rangers didn't even register a hit in this game. His next start would likely be against the Arizona Diamondbacks, assuming he doesn't head back to the bullpen. This was a nice outing by Yang, but it doesn't warrant an immediate pickup in any fantasy formats.

Hyeon-Jong Yang Throws Four Scoreless Innings

Texas Rangers pitcher Hyeon-Jong Yang pitched 4 1/3 innings of one-hit relief during the club's 6-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Friday. He entered the game after starter Kohei Arihara was chased after allowing four home runs in 2 2/3 innings. Yang did not allow a run and posted a K-BB of 4-1 while throwing 36 of his 51 pitches for strikes (71%). The 33-year-old South Korean has now appeared in two games this season. In 8 2/3 innings, he's allowed six hits with a K-BB of 5-1. Given his previous success as a starter in his home country, Yang may eventually be handed a shot at starting in the majors if he continues to have success in his current role.

Rangers Call Up Hyeon-Jong Yang, Option Leody Taveras

The Texas Rangers called up former Korean standout pitcher Hyeon-Jong Yang from the alternate site on Monday before their series opener against the Los Angeles Angels. Struggling rookie center fielder Leody Taveras was optioned in a corresponding move. First baseman/outfielder Ronald Guzman (knee) was also moved to the 60-day injured list. The 33-year-old left-hander was the MVP of the Korean Baseball Organization in 2017. He won the nation's ERA title in 2015 and 2019 with the Kia Tigers. Taveras was batting just .087 (4-for-46) with one RBI in 15 games (14 starts) this season. Guzman suffered a right knee meniscus tear and will have season-ending surgery on Wednesday. Yang will be making his major league debut when he gets into a game.
