J.C. Ramirez News

J.C. Ramirez Being Stretched Out As Starter

Los Angeles Angels manager Joe Maddon said that the team is stretching pitcher J.C. Ramirez out as a starter this spring. It makes sense with Shohei Ohtani (elbow) not debuting on the mound until May and with Griffin Canning (elbow) possibly opening the season on the injured list. Ramirez only threw eight innings in the big leagues in 2019 and 6 2/3 in 2018. The 31-year-old right-hander can be ignored in mixed leagues but could be a DFS streamer and worth a pickup in AL-only leagues if he's making starts for the Halos early in the season.

J.C. Ramirez To Make At Least One More Rehab Start

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher J.C. Ramirez (elbow) will make at least one more rehab start for Triple-A Salt Lake, according to manager Brad Ausmus. Ramirez is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and has a rough 7.91 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 4.9 K/9 in his eight rehab starts to date. Most importantly, though, is that he hasn't had any setbacks, and Ramirez should be an option for the Halos rotation very soon at the big league level. The 30-year-old had a 4.15 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 24 starts and three relief appearances in his last full season in 2017. He will have some streaming appeal in AL-only leagues, but his lack of strikeouts keeps his upside low.

J.C. Ramirez Close To A Return?

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher J.C. Ramirez (elbow), who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, is close to making his season debut with the Angels. Ramirez made his second start for Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday and allowed five hits and three earned runs while striking out three and walking two in six innings for a quality start. Expectations should be tempered for him coming off Tommy John surgery, but Ramirez could be a deep league streamer if all goes well. The 30-year-old right-hander had a 4.15 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 6.4 K/9 in 24 starts (three relief appearances) in 2017 for the Halos. Take a wait-and-see approach in mixed leagues.

J.C. Ramirez Feels Good After Wednesday Outing

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher J.C. Ramirez (elbow) threw 84 pitches at Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday and reported feeling good, according to manager Brad Ausmus. The Angels have yet to decide if Ramirez will return to the team as a starter or reliever, and he's out of minor league options. The longest the Angels can keep him in the minors is June 29. The right-hander has allowed 10 earned runs in 10 2/3 innings in his three rehab starts as he attempts to come back from Tommy John surgery. Ramirez could become an option for the Halos rotation and fantasy owners in the second half of this year, but he'd merely be a deep league streamer if he's starting. Ramirez would have no appeal in a relief role.

J.C. Ramirez Continuing Rehab Assignment Wednesday

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher J.C. Ramirez will make the second start of his rehab assignment on Wednesday with the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees. Ramirez threw 1 2/3 innings in his first rehab appearance and will look to extend himself tonight. Ramirez only made two starts of a 9.45 ERA in 2018 before undergoing Tommy John surgery, and has thrown 280 1/3 innings of 4.72 ERA ball in his MLB career. Even when cleared to return to the Majors, he won't be fantasy relevant except in the deepest of leagues.

J.C. Ramirez Makes First Rehab Outing

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher J.C. Ramirez (elbow) completed his first rehab assignment Thursday. The 30-year-old threw 1 2/3 innings, allowing two home runs on two hits to go along with a strikeout, walk and a hit batter. With a layoff as long as he has experienced, bumps along the road are to be expected. Ramirez had a respectable 4.15 ERA through 27 appearances (24 starts) in 2017 and could find himself vying for a rotation spot when he's ready to come off the injured list. Deep league managers should have him on their radar, although he may not turn out to be more than a fringe streaming option.

J.C. Ramirez To Start Rehab Assignment Thursday

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher J.C. Ramirez (elbow), who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, will start his rehab assignment with High-A Inland Empire on Thursday. Ramirez made just two starts in 2018 before his injury but had a 4.15 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 6.4 K/9 in 27 outings (24 starts) for the Angels in 2017. He could become an option for LA's rotation at some point late next month and into the second half of the season. His career 6.4 K/9 shouldn't excite many, but he could become a streaming consideration in deep mixed and AL-only leagues in the second half of the season.

J.C. Ramirez To Make Extended Spring Start Soon

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher J.C. Ramirez (elbow) threw a 45-pitch intrasquad game in Arizona on Tuesday. His next outing will come on May 20 in an extended spring training game. Ramirez is coming back from Tommy John surgery and could be an option to join the rotation sometime in June. The 30-year-old was 11-10 with a 4.15 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 6.4 K/9 in 27 outings (24 starts) in his last full season in 2017. There's a chance he could carve out a role as a deep league streamer in 2019 if he's in the rotation.

J.C. Ramirez Throwing Live BP

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher J.C. Ramirez (elbow) has started to throw live batting practice. Ramirez is recovering from Tommy John surgery and could become an option for the team's starting rotation sometime in June. The 30-year-old right-hander made just two starts in 2018 but had a 4.15 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 6.4 K/9 in 27 outings (24 starts) in Anaheim in 2017. He's not a must-stash in deep mixed leagues, but keep him in mind and track his progress in the next month.

JC Ramirez Had Successful Tommy John Surgery

Los Angeles Angels starter JC Ramirez (elbow) successfully underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday. He will miss the entire 2018 season and likely the start of 2019 as well. Ramirez was expected to be a big part of LA's rotation this season after winning 11 games with 4.15 ERA last season. Expect Nick Tropeano and Parker Bridwell to get more starts this season with Ramirez out.
