Seattle Mariners utility man Jack Reinheimer knocked a two-run shot over the left center field fence in the ninth inning of Wednesday's Cactus League matchup against the Cubs to tie the score at eight. In camp as a non-roster invitee, Reinheimer is off to a good start in spring training, but he faces an uphill battle to make the big league team. Last appearing in the majors in 2018 for Arizona, Reinheimer's biggest appeal is his defensive versatility, with big league experience across the infield and the ability to patrol the corner outfield spots as well. It would take significant injury misfortune for the Mariners for Reinheimer to be fantasy relevant in Seattle.
Jack Reinheimer, Tim Peterson Both Called Up On Monday
New York Mets infielder Jack Reinheimer and reliever Tim Peterson were both called up from the minors on Monday. In response to those moves, the Mets optioned reliever Jacob Rhame and shortstop Luis Guillorme to Triple-A. The Mets claimed Reinheimer off waivers on July 31. He hasn't had a major league at-bat in 2018, and in five at-bats in the majors with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2017 he went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts. Peterson has had rough go of it in his brief stint in the majors as well, going 2-2 in 18 games while allowing 15 runs. Rhame hadn't been much better, as evidenced by his 7.97 ERA. Neither Reinheimer nor Peterson is on the standard fantasy radar at this point.
Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Jack Reinheimer will draw his first major league start this evening versus the Cubs. The shortstop was called up Monday and went 0-for-1 in his first plate appearance last night. Reinheimer's stay in the big leagues may be short as Ketel Marte is on the bereavement list and is expected back by the end of the week. The team also acquired infielder Adam Rosales on the trade deadline. The shortstop hit .283 with 11 stolen bases in Triple-A Reno this season. He faces a tough task versus Jake Arrieta tonight where he will be in the No. 8 spot. He can be avoided in fantasy and daily leagues.
