Jake Eder News
Chicago White Sox manager Pedro Grifol made it sound likely that left-handed pitching prospect Jake Eder, who is serving as the 27th man on Wednesday for the doubleheader against the visiting Minnesota Twins, will make his major-league debut out of the bullpen. Grifol said there's "a good chance." "If I get the opportunity to put him in, I'm putting him in there. I'm not going to hesitate at all. I have confidence in him, we all do. That's why he's here. It'll be nice to see him. He's a big part of the future," Grifol added. The 25-year-old southpaw was recalled from Double-A Birmingham after posting a 5.09 ERA with 86 strikeouts and 31 walks in 74 1/3 innings for the Barons. Eder is the team's No. 10 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, but he's likely to head right back to Birmingham after Wednesday's twin bill.

Jake Eder Stays Hot With Another Strong Outing On Friday
Chicago White Sox starting pitching prospect Jake Eder continued his hot stretch on Friday with 6 1/3 shutout innings. He allowed just three hits and two free passes and tied a season-high with eight strikeouts. After posting a poor 5.24 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in his first seven starts of the season, the Vanderbilt product has begun to find his footing at Double-A with a stellar 1.56 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in his previous three starts. The southpaw has been at the Double-A level for an extended stint over the past three seasons but could be nearing the end, as he is on pace to have the best season of his career. MLB Pipeline ranks Eder as the No. 10 overall prospect in the Chicago system and projects him to reach the majors next season. Eder could become a stash candidate in dynasty leagues if he carries this success to Triple-A later this summer.

Jake Eder Tallies Eight Strikeouts On Friday
Chicago White Sox starting pitching prospect Jake Eder tallied eight strikeouts across six innings of two-run ball on Friday. Eder allowed just four hits and two free passes. This was the 25-year-old best performance of the season, lowering his ERA to 5.12 and WHIP to 1.66. The southpaw is once again averaging over a strikeout per inning this with 24 in 19 innings, as he has done every season of his professional career. Eder struggled in Double-A last season and the early part of this year, but it looks like he is beginning to turn the corner after a strong showing on Friday. The tenth-ranked prospect in the Chicago system will have to continue to post outings like this to reach Triple-A this summer. If he can do so, he could be in contention to reach the major leagues towards the end of the season.

White Sox Land Prospect Jake Eder From Marlins
The Chicago White Sox are acquiring left-handed pitching prospect Jake Eder from the Miami Marlins in exchange for third baseman Jake Burger on Tuesday, according to sources. Eder was the Marlins' No. 4 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. The 24-year-old southpaw already had Tommy John surgery in 2021 and has posted a 4.12 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 21 walks and 48 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings over nine starts this year with Single-A Jupiter and Double-A Pensacola. There's a lot to like about Eder's fastball-slider combination, and he's also developing a nice changeup as his third offering. Given Miami's pretty stacked stable of pitching prospects, Eder could reach the majors quicker in his new home in Chicago.

Jake Eder To Undergo Tommy John Surgery
Miami Marlins top pitching prospect Jake Eder (elbow) will be forced to undergo Tommy John Surgery. His 2021 season is over, as is most if not all of 2022 as well. Eder, picked in the fourth round of the 2020 draft, was off to an outstanding start to his professional career. In 71 1/3 Double-A innings, he had a 1.77 ERA and 99 strikeouts with 27 walks. He was quickly moving up prospect rankings and should still be a top-100 guy when he returns. Eder relies more on movement and deception than velocity, so while having him not pitch for over a year is by no means great, he's at a lower risk than most pitchers to not be able to return to form.
