The Los Angeles Dodgers designated right-hander Jake Reed for assignment on Thursday in order to make room on the 40-man roster for the recently signed J.D. Martinez. It's the second time that Reed has been cut from a roster this offseason. The 30-year-old was DFA'd the first time by the Boston Red Sox in November before the Dodgers claimed him. He pitched for the New York Mets, Dodgers and Baltimore Orioles last year, posting a rough 7.02 ERA (5.09 FIP), a 1.50 WHIP, 13 strikeouts and eight walks in just 16 2/3 innings pitched over 18 relief outings. It was just his second major-league season after making his MLB debut for the Dodgers and Mets in 2021. Reed will hope to latch on elsewhere as relief depth.
The Baltimore Orioles claimed right-hander Jake Reed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday. The Dodgers designated Reed for assignment on Friday to make room for reliever Blake Treinen on the active roster. The 29-year-old has made 10 relief appearances for the Dodgers and New York Mets in 2022, allowing nine earned runs on 10 hits (two homers given up) while walking seven and striking out eight in 11 innings. He made 10 relief appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma and was much better, giving up one run on eight hits while walking three and striking out 11 in 10 1/3 innings pitched. There's a good chance that Baltimore will send Reed to Triple-A Norfolk to close out the 2022 campaign.
Jake Reed To Serve As Opener Against Marlins Wednesday
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Jake Reed will get the nod to start on the mound on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins. Reed will serve as the opener in this one, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to go long enough to qualify for a potential win. The 28-year-old has gone just two-thirds of an inning so far in his major league career, and he wound up allowing an earned run on three hits in a loss to the Marlins on Tuesday night after he was called up for the first time. Fantasy managers will obviously want to stay away from him in all formats in just his second career big league appearance on the road on Wednesday.
