James Kaprielian News
Oakland Athletics starting pitcher James Kaprielian will start vs. the Minnesota Twins on Saturday. Kaprielian was taken off the IL last week and had a rough start against the Cleveland Guardians on May 1st when he allowed four earned runs across just two innings pitched. Kaprielian had an up-and-down 2021 in which he posted a 4.07 ERA with a 9.82 K/9 across 119 1/3 innings pitched. He is not recommended as a streaming or DFS option today as the Twins are currently posting a 135 wRC+ mark against right-handed pitching over the previous two weeks, but he is someone to keep an eye on moving forward.
The Oakland Athletics activated starting pitcher James Kaprielian (shoulder) from the injured list on Sunday in order for him to make his season debut against the Cleveland Guardians. No. 5 starter Adam Oller was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. In three rehab starts in the minors for Las Vegas and Single-A Stockton, Kaprielian allowed 11 earned runs on 15 hits (three home runs) while walking five and striking out 13 in 13 2/3 innings. The 28-year-old right-hander didn't go more than four innings or 84 pitches in those rehab starts, either, so he'll likely be on a relatively short leash in his return to the majors. Despite the good matchup against Cleveland, Kaprielian will be a risky fantasy option in his season debut Sunday.
Oakland Athletics right-handed pitcher James Kaprielian (shoulder) was roughed up in his rehab outing at Triple-A on Wednesday. He pitched four innings and allowed three hits, four walks and five earned runs while recording two strikeouts. He also hit a batter in the game. Kaprielian was sidelined with right shoulder inflammation this spring and he is in the midst of working his way back. This was his third rehab outing and his second consecutive one at Triple-A. His previous Triple-A start was also a rough one as he allowed nine hits and four earned runs over 4 2/3 innings. We may still see him make one more rehab outing before joining the A's and it's unclear whether he will have a spot in the rotation or if he will be pitching out of the bullpen for the club this year.
