Jesse Winker Ruled Out for Rest of Season

New York Mets designated hitter Jesse Winker (back) will not play again this year, manager Carlos Mendoza announced Wednesday. Winker has been on the injured list with inflammation in his lower back since July 11. He began a minor-league rehab assignment in late August, but the 32-year-old suffered a setback shortly after that, leading the team to shut him down. With Winker's back continuing to bother him, he won't have enough time to return in 2025. Along with his back issues, Winker also missed significant time earlier in the season with an oblique strain. The injuries limited Winker to 26 games and a .229/.309/.400 line with one homer, 10 RBI, and eight runs scored over 81 plate appearances. He's due to become a free agent after the season, which is unfortunate timing on the heels of an injury-riddled campaign.

Jesse Winker Likely Done for 2025 Season

New York Mets outfielder Jesse Winker (back) has been shut down from baseball activities and is likely going to miss the rest of the 2025 season. Winker began a rehab assignment last week, but was shut down after going hitless with four strikeouts in two games. The fact he isn't doing any baseball activities with less than a month left in the season means he's likely done for 2025. Winker has been out since the middle of July due to back inflammation. He'll finish his 2025 season with a .229/.309/.400 slash line with one home run and 10 RBI across 26 games. He's set to be a free agent after the season, so we'll see what happens with him.

Jesse Winker Continuing to Deal With Back Pain

New York Mets designated hitter Jesse Winker (back) started a rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie on Wednesday, but he's still dealing with "intermittent back pain." Winker has missed a month and a half with lower-back inflammation, and he'll only return in 2025 if he's able to manage the pain. This may end up as a lost season for Winker, who also missed a large chunk of time earlier in the year with an oblique strain. The 32-year-old has appeared in a meager 26 games and hit .229/.309/.400 with one homer, 10 RBI, and eight runs scored in 81 plate appearances. The Mets have typically gone with either Starling Marte or Mark Vientos at DH in Winker's absence.

Jesse Winker, Jose Siri Begin Rehab Assignments

New York Mets designated hitter Jesse Winker (back) and outfielder Jose Siri (leg) began rehab assignments at the Single-A level on Wednesday. There's potential for both players to return sometime in September. Winker has been on the IL with inflammation in his lower back since July 11, and he missed significant time earlier this season with an oblique strain. The injuries have limited him to 26 games and a .229/.300/.400 line with one home run and 10 RBI in 81 plate appearances. Without Winker, the Mets have mostly turned to Starling Marte and Mark Vientos at DH. Siri, meanwhile, fractured his left tibia just nine games into his season and has been on the shelf since April 17. The 30-year-old has never been an offensive threat (.207/.265/.403 in 1,210 plate appearances), but his speed and defense could help the Mets late in the season if he returns.

Jesse Winker Questionable to Return This Season

New York Mets designated hitter Jesse Winker (back) has not resumed baseball activities since he went on the 10-day injured list on July 11 with inflammation in his lower back. With time running out on the season, a return may not be in the cards, according to Tim Britton of The Athletic. Winker missed most of May and all of June with an oblique strain, and he landed on the shelf again after just two games because of his back issue. It could prove to be a season-ending injury for Winker, who has hit .229/.309/.400 with one home run and 10 RBI in 81 plate appearances. Starling Marte and Mark Vientos have gotten most of the work at DH in Winker's absence.

Jesse Winker Receives Epidural, Remains Sidelined

New York Mets outfielder Jesse Winker (back) received an epidural and will be shut down for at least another week. Winker was placed on the IL on July 11 and has appeared in 26 games this season, slashing .229/.309/.400 with one home run. He had missed over two months due to a right oblique strain before briefly returning on July 8. With durability concerns mounting and little production when active, fantasy managers should take a wait-and-see approach. Until Winker can stay healthy and contribute, he's not worth a roster spot in most formats.

Jesse Winker Heads Back to Injured List

The New York Mets announced on Friday that they placed outfielder Jesse Winker (back) on the 10-day injured list with back inflammation and recalled infielder Jared Young from Triple-A Syracuse in a corresponding move. Winker had just returned from the 60-day IL due to an oblique injury not long ago, but now he's headed back to the shelf and won't be available to the Mets until sometime in the second half of the season. In the meantime, Mark Vientos is expected to see more playing time in the designated hitter spot for the Mets. Winker has only been able to play in 26 games in 2025 in his first full year in New York, and he's hit jut .229 (16-for-70) with a homer, 10 RBI, eight runs scored and one stolen base. It's unclear if Winker will be ready to return to the Mets shortly after the start of the second half of the season later this month.

Jesse Winker Could be Headed to Injured List

MLB.com's Anthony DiComo writes that it sounds like New York Mets outfielder Jesse Winker (back) could be headed to the injured list after his back "locked up" on him during Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. Winker will head to New York for an MRI exam. Determining on the results of the testing, the 31-year-old could head back to the IL just before next week's All-Star break after just coming off the 60-day IL on Tuesday for an oblique strain. It's been that kind of season for Winker, who came into Thursday's action with a .232 average (16-for-69) with a homer and 10 RBI in just 25 games played. It sounds as though we won't see him until sometime in the second half. In the meantime, Mark Vientos could see more opportunities as the team's designated hitter.

Jesse Winker Exits with Back Tightness

Per MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, New York Mets outfielder Jesse Winker (back) exited the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the hosting Baltimore Orioles with back tightness. Oof. Winker returned from a lengthy stay on the injured list due to an oblique injury just two days ago, but was pinch-hit for in the fourth inning by teammate Mark Vientos as he's now apparently dealing with a back issue. Presumably, the injury occurred during the contest, and he's almost certainly scheduled for further testing. He can be considered day-to-day for now, but back ailments aren't the most straightforward of injuries. Fantasy managers should closely monitor the situation.

Jesse Winker Activated, Starting at DH on Tuesday

The New York Mets have reinstated designated hitter/outfielder Jesse Winker (oblique) from the 60-day injured list. The team opened up room for Winker by sending fellow DH/outfielder Starling Marte (knee) to the 10-day IL and transferring right-hander Tylor Megill (elbow) to the 60-day IL. Winker is in the lineup at DH and hitting fifth on Tuesday against Baltimore Orioles right-hander Brandon Young. The 31-year-old hasn't played since May 4 because of a strained right oblique. Winker has batted .239/.321/.418 with one home run and 10 RBI in 78 plate appearances this season. He took 508 trips to the plate last year and hit .253/.360/.405 with 14 homers, 58 RBI, 63 runs scored, and 14 steals.
